Nice quiet niche property.

We had a great little villa along with three other villas on a private property with pool and private beach. We enjoyed our neighbors in the other villas which was nice treat. Relaxing stay and easy going.

Relaxing!

This was our second time staying at Villa Makax and we enjoyed both times very much. (I highly recommend getting a golf cart to get around the island.) We love the relaxed atmosphere, private beach and pool. We really enjoyed the newer lounging area, it was nice to visit with other guest and get to know them. Steve and Lindel are super nice and full of knowledge of the island and great places to eat. Juan was quick to help out with anything we needed. 🙂 I highly recommend Villa Makax is you want a relaxing vacation!

Ideal stay at Villa Makax

We spent the first week of March in the Casita Grande at Villa Makax to celebrate our 25th anniversary and my 50th Birthday. It was exactly as advertised! Clean, comfortable, plenty of room for the 2 of us! Having a golf cart gave us flexibility to set our own schedule and explore on our own. It is a fun 15-20 min trip to the Playa Norte area. The pool and beach areas were used and enjoyed. Only had short interactions with owners and other guests. Enjoyed the dog Pluto and the 2 large bunnies! Felt safe and honestly had the most relaxed vacation we have had. I bought 2 long Turkish lightweight towels with beach chair clips to use and these were a good purchase. Thanks for a great week (it wasn’t long enough!).

Wonderful Place Wonderful People

My wife and I spent 2 weeks in Cottage Grand. The Villa is exactly as described. The property is absolutely beautiful and kept perfectly by Juan and his family. Steve, Lindell and the fantastic staff have spent years perfecting the property the Villas and the visitor experience. We cannot wait to return.

Little piece of paradise

My husband and I stayed in the Cottage Grande for 5 days celebrating our 10-year anniversary. This was our first time to the island, and we had the best time! The cottage was perfect! I list some of my pros and cons as that is always helpful to me when trying to figure out where to stay. Pros.. *Cottage was very clean..floors, kitchen, bathroom, linens all spotless. *The AC in the unit was wonderful. The cottage did not have any musty, humid wetness feel that you most often get in tropical areas. *Loved the no kids policy and the small size of the place. We felt like we had the beach and pool all to ourselves. *The proximity to the beach is amazing...just steps away. We woke up, opened our curtains and laid in bed looking at the ocean. *They have a large water dispenser in the unit, loved that we could just refill our cups and not have to buy bottled water. Tip..bring your own large insulated cups and pop them in the fridge overnight or while you are out and about to have nice cold water when you get back. *Staff and owners are extremely friendly and helpful. *The best was relatively comfortable and not to firm *I like to get all unpacked when on vacation and the cottage had a nice closet with hangers as well as lots of space in the bathroom to put all my products :) *Property is in a great location...10 min golf cart ride to north and south end. *Sunset from the property are amazing. Cons... *Seagrass in the ocean. About 3 ft into the ocean and the whole bottom is covered with seagrass. This is by no means the properties fault but thought I would mention it in case some people would not like it. It didn't bother me at all I still swam and just didn't touch the floor bottom. *Lack of curtains in our cottage. There were 2 windows in the cottage that did not have window covering. I would have liked them covered for privacy. We had a fabulous stay at Villa Makax and definitely would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet. relaxing beach getaway.

Just perfect for people like us.

You could stay at the famous north beach but you would miss out on: 1. Your own stand alone beach front casita (not a multistory hotel with elevators and stairs). 2. A private beach with shady palapas shared with only the owners and 2 other casitas (not crowds of daytrippers). 3. Your own kitchen. 4. A large private lanai. 5. Sounds of lapping waves and birds (not loud music). But we did enjoy casting our own choices of music from YouTube to the smart TV. We stayed in the "Cottage Grande" (AKA "Casita Grande"). It is actually more spacious than the pictures shown on VRBO, with a kitchen and bathroom larger than those in our Manhattan apartment. The hosts are an amazing couple who built this compound over decades and brought it to its current state of near perfection. We have stayed at many VRBO properties but none compare to Villa Makax.

Beautiful secluded/private property with beachfront and stunning views

Right from the beginning Steve was very friendly and communicative. Promptly answered ALL of our numerous emails with an abundance of questions. Our cottage wasn't available for the total time we were spending there, so he let us rent another cottage for three days (minimum stay is four) until our cottage was available. The grounds are beautiful, the views are stunning, and the caretakers are very friendly. The property has a friendly dog named Hookah and two very friendly rabbits that we enjoyed while we were there. The beach is just steps from any of the cottages. The pool and sitting areas were well maintained and cared for on a daily basis. There is plenty of parking for vehicles and golf carts. The property is within walking distance to Zama Beach Resort and Izla Hotel where you can catch a taxi; but I would highly recommended renting a golf cart. What I loved most about the property is that it's located on the south end of the island on Sac Bajo away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, just a 20-minute golf cart ride away. The property is quiet, secluded and peaceful. The property has a covered sitting area with very comfortable cushioned patio sofas, chairs and coffee table along with an open bar with water, beer and juice available that all guests are welcome to and usually contribute to upon their departure. It's a great place to sit and have a cocktail, socialize with the other guests or gaze at the beautiful views. I personally loved sitting there, as well as on our patio, watching and listening to the rain. If you're looking for luxury, daily room service and posh amenities this place IS NOT for you. But if you're looking for peacefulness, solitude and relaxation this IS the place for you.

From check in to check out this piece of heaven is exactly what we needed. Away from the noise, but close to beach clubs if you want that vibe. The beds were comfy the salt water pool was the perfect temp and the little extras were nice. You couldn’t ask for nicer hosts to add to your enjoyment of the area.

Villa Makax was beautiful! Our villa that we stayed in was clean, had a/c and hot water. There was a tv with netflix. The kitchen in our little villa was clean and functional. The property was clean, other visitors were nice as well as the hosts (Steve and his wife). The pool and beach access were absolutely amazing. They answered all and any of our questions as needed.

A slice of Paradise

Loved Villa Makax! Casa Grande, the palapa/casita we rented was comfortable and had everything we needed for a beautiful stay on Isla Mujeres. Steve, the owner, was jovial and helpful with all of our inquiries and needs. Loved waking up to the sound of the surf, tropical birds, and the little dog Cuca. The heated pool was amazing, I spent many hours soaking up the rays and enjoying this well appointed spot. Can't wait to return!

Chill and beautiful

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Isla Mujeres for multiple reasons. We saw a lot of great sites, had incredible food and drinks, and had a lot of downtime on the beach and in the pool. The property of Villa Markax was perfect for us, a respite from all the adventures of every day. The pool was perfect, the chairs on the beach we occupied for hours, and we slept really well in our little Casita. The place is really clean and we felt completely comfortable the whole time. We had fun talking with fellow guests and the owners that are awesome people. We even get to know the properties little dog Cuca. I would recommend this place for anyone that wants to have all the fun during the day but have a place to relax at night away from some of the hustle and bustle of the island. The golf carts are an absolute must but are a lot of fun. I would highly recommend this property, and can’t wait to get back!

Another Great stay!

We have been to Villa Makax a few times now and love it. It is always very quiet and peaceful, which is just what we look for on a get-away trip. We go up to town for some entertainment and nightlife but are glad to get back to a heated pool and beach that are never crowded because of the limited number of guests. Juan and Serviana do a great job. And it is always fun to see Steve and Lindell.

Absolutely PERFECT!

Steve & Lindell's property is simply AMAZING! We feel beyond fortunate to have had the opportunity to stay here. Beautiful beach front property with plenty of new loungers/chairs for guests. A salt water pool which is immaculate at all times. Grounds that are clean and well manicured. Very friendly staff and gracious & polite owners who are willing to assist you. The guest houses are very clean and possess everything you will need for any length of stay! This is the perfect location that is very quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of town, yet not far at all from all Isla has to offer. SUPERB location with sunsets every evening. We truly can't say enough about this special place. We will definitely return to Steve & Lindell's wonderful spot! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful property with Tom & I! We miss it already!

Wonderful Villa

This was the most relaxing vacation we have had in years. Our Villa was wonderful! The view from the pool was spectacular and having our own palapa to watch the sunset was spectacular! Juan was very helpful when we arrived, within 30 minutes he had a golf cart for us, which I highly recommend if you come here you rent a golf cart. I am already planning my return trip!

So relaxing !

We stayed at Villa Makax for the second time this past month, and enjoyed it even more than the first time! Love the changes made to the property / the new pool is fantastic to cool off in! Hosts Steve and Lindell are wonderful, and the accommodations are super comfortable. Especially the bed and linens. I never wanted to get out of bed in the morning ! We will be back !

Fantastic property and location

Excellent hideaway!

Even though it rained the entire time, we still had a great time. The Villa is amazing and perfect for cooking breakfast in, sitting on the porch and the bed was wonderful!! Especially if you have traveled much and know how mexican beds can be!! Don’t hesitate to rent this place. Beautiful villa, grounds and view! We loved the dogs too! We will be back

All that we had hoped for and more!

After many years of AI vacations we decided that this year we wanted to do something else! We had visited Isla Mujeres for a day trip last year and we loved it and decided our next vacation would be there! I looked and looked at properties on the internet and kept coming back to one, Villa Makax, it seemed to be exactly what we were looking for, and it was!!! The property is lovely and the location is breathtaking, the pictures on the website are very true and accurate! We stayed in the Casa Grande unit and it was great,a full kitchen ,comfortable king size bed with a view of the ocean in front of you,tv, wifi, we were set!!!! Outside a few steps away was a lovely pool which we very much enjoyed as well! The ocean is right there in front of you with two lovely raised spots to relax and enjoy the sun and the sea ,it is an absolutely beautiful spot! The owners, Steve and Lindell were wonderful hosts, offering informative stories of the island as well as many other very interesting conversations! Juan and Sirvianna do an incredible job keeping the property immaculate, all in all you cant go wrong! We also became very fond of their dog Lassie who visits with all the guests, she will greet you with a gentle nudge and a wag of her tail ,if you like her she will like you such a gentle sweet dog, we loved her! This was a wonderful vacation at a wonderful place and god willing we will be back to enjoy it again soon!

Great location

Being right on the water was just what we were looking for. Location is beautiful and quiet. Hosts are very gracious and make everyone feel welcome. We also had wonderful neighbors in the other casitas. We rented a golf cart for the week which we enjoyed touring around the island and going to Centro to shop and eat late lunches. We didn't go as much as we had planned since our casita and surroundings were so great. Our unit had a nice kitchen and we loved the recliners when we binge watched some programs we had been thinking about watching. We brought our Roku and it worked great on the television. There were restaurants nearby and we particularly enjoyed Zama (it closes at 6 though). If you want a relaxing and beautiful location this is for you.

Beautiful, relaxing spot to get away from it all.

What a fantastic week we had at Villa Makax! If you you're looking for a quiet, beautiful, safe place on Isla, this is it. Our villa was clean and nicely decorated. The beach and pool were fantastic. Juan will take care of just about anything you need, including having a golf cart delivered. The owners, Steve and Lindell are one of the big reasons this property is so great. They were so helpful and we had the best time talking with them. What a great story they have. Can't wait to go back!

Beautiful property with everything you will need!

We loved every part of our stay from the casita to the pool to the beach. The layout of the entire property has been very well thought out and it is kept in excellent condition as well. Walks on the beach to grilling poolside drinking your favorite handmade beverages are all part of what this place has to offer! Get a golf cart and explore the entire Island or just hang at your own casita, it’s your call in Isla....

Steve and Lindell, the owners of Villa Makax are from Wrightsville Beach, NC. They arrived here in 1972, and fell in love with Isla Mujeres. In 1975 they purchased an unfinished house on Sac Bajo and over the last 45 years, their love for Mexico and particularly Isla, is shown through the manner in which they carved out this piece of paradise.

Every stone, every block, every tile was placed with care and love for the land. As pioneers of the North American community on the island, they have experienced and participated in the tremendous growth and prosperity of the community. The depth of their combined love for Mexico and Isla Mujeres is reflected in all corners and crevices of the cottages.

Steve and Lindell are best known on Isla for their dedicated work with the challenged children of the island. Commonly known as The Little Yellow School House, Amor a la Niñez (Love of the childhood) was established in 1998 by local women in a small 6 by 8 foot classroom. The school is supported by donations only, there is no cost to the families.
