Situated in leafy, poetic Elwood, this 4 bedroom Edwardian, 2 story house is reminiscent of a bygone era with it's high ceilings, beautiful stained glass windows and ornate fireplace. Rest assured, the property has been brought into the 21st century with a stunning renovation of the open plan kitchen, dining and living area leading out onto a private, landscaped terrace with built in BBQ. The open plan living space with it's soaring cathedral ceilings has lovely polished concrete floors.
All bedrooms have queen sized beds, with two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs. The master bedroom upstairs has a luxe designer ensuite. One of the downstairs bedrooms enjoys a beautiful view into the front garden and has a lovely window seat. Relax here and read a book to escape the hustle and bustle or have a long soak in the tub in the family bathroom, drying off with a warm towel, thanks to the heated towel rail.
The streets of Elwood are a further nod to another era, with many of the street names, including this one, named after famous British and Australian poets. Apparently, Elwood was known to be full of ill-tempered troublemakers who wouldn't pay their rates. So, in the 1850s, the council decided to rename the streets after poets to lift the moral character of those residents. Today, Elwood is a beautiful suburb, with the best of both worlds; shops and cafes, parks and the beach.
PROPERTY FEATURES
Private walled courtyard garden and BBQ
Two storey Edwardian house in leafy suburb
Reverse Cycle in Lounge and upstairs bedrooms
Wall heaters in downstairs bedrooms
Walk to shops, cafes and transport
Walk to the beach
PARKING: Unrestricted street parking.
WHATS IN ELWOOD?
Elwood is known for its mix of interesting architectural styles, its beaches and its leafy streets, many of which are lined by London Plane trees. It has large period houses, many from the 1920s and 30s with art deco touches, along with proximity to beach and foreshore, it has made the area very attractive. It is great for families with excellent private schools nearby in Brighton, St Kilda and Elsternwick. It has excellent public transport with trams only a short distance away.
Poets Corner is close to a small group of shops including cafe and supermarket but it is only a short walk to Ormond road which is a thriving hub for shopping and eating with many great cafes and restaurants. With the beach only a short walk away it is the perfect position for everything Melbourne has to offer.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The trams run every few minutes and are only a very short walk away #67 Melbourne University to Carnegie which takes you right into the CBD. Elsternwick station is only a 800 metres away where you can catch the train into the city on the Sandringham line or Ripponlea station only 1 kilometre away. Alternatively, the #246 bus via Glenhuntly Road will take you into the city and up to Fitzroy North
GETTING THERE
From Melbourne Tullamarine Airport: 38 mins by car or Uber or take the Skybus.
FROM THE OWNER:
We lived in Elwood for years and what attracted us to this home is its location. Its a few hundred meters to the Tennyson Street shops great for coffee, bakery and a drink at the tiny King of Tonga. Elwood foreshore, Elsternwick park and Elwood village are also a short stroll away. The house itself works really well in the warmer weather the living room doors open wide to the north facing courtyard. We have no doubt youll love it too whether for a short or longer stay.
PET FRIENDLY
Yes we accept pets subject to our pet stay conditions (see our terms). There is a leash free park just around the corner in Peel Street.
Pets must be declared on the booking and a pet stay fee of $135 (base rate) plus $5 per night per pet will be applied.
