This cottage was designed for our family to have maximum private space while only taking up a small footprint - the best of indoor/outdoor cottage life that lets the view in *everywhere*.
THE TOUR:
The space has a fully functional kitchen - we love to cook, so everything you need is there - and big living dining shared space that is set right off of the screened in porch with a fireplace, perfect for late night dominoes games and dinner outside without the bugs. Off of this door is a new bbq that gets a lot of use, and a firepit that you can also cook on, next to two big comfy chaise lounge chairs and plenty of stacking blue lawn chairs for groups. Down across the small lawn you'll find the bunkie, the original "building" on the property from the 70's that we are converting into a shared sleeping space with two twin beds and a lofted double bed (super fun for kid sleepovers). On the little attached deck that we like to call the Lido Deck is another iron table set and chairs with umbrella with a gorgeous view of the bag - we recommend coffee here in the mornings and cocktail hour in the afternoon. On the other side is another view setup with 3 big muskoka chairs and in the woods a nice big hammock. Choose from the many quilts inside in the laundry room to cozy up there with a good book.
Here too is the entrance to the many many stairs down to the water, where you will find an extension dock leading out, also with muskoka chairs, where you feel like you're one with the bay. We also have a paddle board and kayak for exploring purposes. The "beach" is all stones, so swimming shoes are required, and is extremely private save for our neighbours you only see on their own docks every so often. It is extremely peaceful.
Now, back inside: off the living area is a long hallway that leads to the 4 bedrooms and bathroom - while there is only one bathroom it works well for a crowd as the shower area and toilet area each have their own door away from the two sinks. Towels and linens are plentiful, stored in each bedroom blanket box with more in the laundry room.
TEMPERATURE & WATER
While there is no AC, it is not needed - the space was designed with big high ceilings and very powerful fans, next to the giant windows, to keep air flow moving at all times. Please note this property is on a cistern, so water-consciousness is required and we ask guests be swift with their showers and to not leave the sinks on as much as possible. Please do not drink the tap-water, while it won't hurt you it may make you a bit queasy. The drinking water is bottled in the kitchen/dining area. More can be found in the laundry room, and if you run out, just take the bottles to the Home Hardware in Wiarton.
WIFI & SERVICE & TV
Wifi is available, but lets just say it is not strong enough for multiple people to be on a video call or streaming at once. You'll have to take turns. It is fast enough to use the google cast though to stream tv from your phone for movie nights. Cell service is extremely limited, so that's what the wifi is for - for reliable cell service, it comes back on the drive to Wiarton or Owen Sound.
LOCATION!
Located in Big Bay (Canada's skipping stone capital!) which is beautiful strip of homes just outside of Wiarton where you can do your food shopping and visit the Frosty Freeze, or Howell's for fresh fish - plus much more fun stuff. We are also only a half hour from Owen Sound where there's a great farmers' market every Saturday. Big Bay also has a great General Store with amazing ice cream and fun pizza, plus other local sights.
