Great location, home ok
The home’s location just 2 blocks from Newtown’s King St was fantastic! The area quickly became our home neighborhood as we frequented the restaurants, shops, and train station. Easy access to University of Sydney campus. We arrived from overseas at 6am, and the host generously allowed us to check in early, which was much appreciated. Communication was good, right up until the time when we arrived to find that the advertised “air conditioning” meant that there was a fan in each room. When I questioned the host about how to turn on the AC (knowing full well that there was none), it was crickets. The following day the temp in Sydney reached 100F with the typical high humidity, so the lack of advertised AC was not appreciated. I then noticed that the home’s Vrbo listing was updated with AC removed. The house is historic and its age shows, but also has a certain charm. It was clean. Other than the lack of AC, which we quickly realized is quite typical in Australia, our biggest complaint was the strong odor of sewage in the bathroom. It seemed to emanate from the Drain in the floor. The first week we were there it was almost unbearable. The second week it was nearly gone. I think it may be related to the weather. Hot and dryvery stinky. Cooler and rainyless odorous. Overall, I give it 3 stars.
