Cold Creek Homestead is nestled on the border of Northumberland and Hastings counties near the rural village of Wooler. The homestead was founded in 2021 and the transformation is underway. We produce eggs, honey, and are trying our hand at maple syrup. The orchard and vegetable gardens are maturing and you never know what produce, preserves, or spreads are available! We're always trying something new. The 35 acre property backs on to Cold Creek which can be accessed by a 1.5 km walking trail. Within 30 minutes are several lovely Ontario towns including Brighton, Warkworth, Cobourg, Campbellford, Frankford, and Trenton. The Waterfront Trail and Prince Edward County are at the doorstep. Plenty of provincial parks and conservation areas offer excellent beaches, hiking, swimming, cycling and birdwatching. There are dozens of craft breweries and wineries, farmer's markets and one of Ontario's best waterfront patios, all nearby. Many of the local farms are open to the public for apple and berry picking, and several offer an opportunity to meet their animals. Come experience our sustainable, country lifestyle!

Newly renovated suite on a beautiful rural lot

I was very happy staying here, the apartment was nicely renovated with a comfortable bed. The door faces a wide open field and there is some wildlife on the property that adds to the atmosphere. The hosts are friendly and helpful.

Peaceful Retreat

Laura was incredibly kind, communicative and accommodating! My partner, our dog and I had a lovely peaceful getaway from the city. The location is quiet and the apartment is perfect for a couple. The products from their homestead are delicious, so be sure to ask what's in season. I would highly recommend this property and host to anyone.

Incredible gem

We stayed at the homestead for the July long weekend. The hosts are gracious, kind, and very welcoming. They have a small farm with bees and chickens which were really fun to see and visit. They’ve got farm fresh goodies to buy - be sure to look at the price list on the fridge. There’s also Kiwi, the homestead dog who is really friendly and sociable - and was the highlight for our pup! The unit itself is very clean, spacious and comfortable. You’ll be sure to get great sleep! We had a great time hanging out at the property itself. The place comes with everything we’d need and extras - such as a microwave, amazing coffee and tea! The hosts also provide lots of information pamphlets on local attractions in PEC and surrounding towns. PEC is about a 30 min drive through picturesque country side which made the trip even more enjoyable! It is great value for money and one of the best places we stayed at. Thank you both again for having us and our puppy. We can’t wait to be back!

Enjoyable visit!

This lovely spot was like a breath of fresh air, providing a welcome break for me and my small dog. Everything was as I had hoped, clean, well-set-up and welcoming. I hadn’t brought any dishes with me, so I would suggest that 1or2 place settings would add to the comfort of the day. This didn’t spoil my five star assessment of this VRBO!

A tranquil retreat

We had a very relaxing and peaceful stay at Laura’s. The room beautifully decorated to fit the location. It was clean and everything was there that we needed. The outside was stunningly gorgeous, calm and quiet. There was a walking trail through the woods which was a beautiful way to start our day. Our hosts were very friendly and approachable and quick to respond when we had questions. They also directed us to restaurants in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Quinte West and look forward to a longer stay next time.

We moved here the summer of 2021. We've had a long-term dream of homesteading and living a more independent and sustainable lifestyle. We've got big plans and are on our way. We're both outdoor nature-minded people, who enjoy hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing, gardening, and doing things with our hands. If you're interested in a quiet stay,
or would like to learn about the property or perhaps sharing your adventures, please let us know. Dan is an avid birdwatcher as well and knows a few good places to go to see interesting wildlife. Our dog Kiwi lives on the property and our chickens can be out and about. Nous parlons francais tous les deux. Wir sprechen beide Deutsch.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

There's lots to do on the homestead and we're happy to show you around. We have a mixed flock of 11 hens (8 azure blues and 3 speckled sussexes) with more coming this summer. We keep honey bees and currently have three hives, which are in the meadows on the other side of the woodlot behind the house. We planted an orchard in 2021 and 2022 consisting of pears, apples, apricots, cherries and plums. We haven't had any fruit yet, but hope to have our first harvest this year - we'll just have to see. There's also a big vegetable garden with all manner of veggies. Laura make preserves, sauces, pickles and whatever else she dreams up! There's always something to try and we usually have some jars or even eggs for sale to bring home. There's a relaxing 1.5 km trail which leads through the meadows and woodlot to Cold Creek.
