Cozy getaway

Cozy place, spotlessly clean, lots of parking for multiple cars, really comfy couch for visiting, Roku tv, full kitchen. Excellent location, 5 min from highway and close to Guildford mall. Easy checkin. Excellent communication with host if any questions arise. It is a basement suite so you will hear people walking/ kids running above you. Great place to visit with friends.

Need better description, repairs and higher standard of cleanliness

We traveling with our friends and have children ranging from 11 to 14 yo. We are experienced travelers and have stayed previously at domestic and international vacation properties. We have significant concerns about the state of this property particularly in this day and age when we are still dealing with a pandemic: We saw evidence of leakage (from the upper unit) and black mold in the bathroom’s ceiling. We had to wipe everything down upon our arrival and saw more evidence of leakage after 2 days. There was evidence of mold and mildew around the bathtub and the threshold was completely detached . There was a constant smell of mildew emanating from the bathroom. We expected that all the linen and blankets had been cleaned and laundered before our check in time. We found stained linen, covered with previous guests’ hair, crumbled blankets, previous guests’ lingerie in a closet, and debri/garbage underneath the mattress. We had to rewash all of the linen on our own. When traveling with 3 children, we carefully select our vacation property including access to kitchen and kitchen amenities. This property has very very minimal kitchen utensils. Imagine having to visit superstores/thrift stores the first night we checked in to buy more pots/pans, mixing bowls, mixing spoons, spatulas, baking dishes, and even a can opener to accommodate the needs of our children. Previous guests had mentioned that the owners live above and one can hear noise. They failed to mention the level of noise as the owners have young children who run and the lower unit is poorly insulated. This unit does not have any air conditioning and has poor ventilation. It may be a good idea to pack extra fans (in addition to the ones provided by the owners) We recommend that the owners carefully consider these recommendations, repair the property and most importantly adopt a higher standard of cleanliness particularly in the day and age of covid 19 pandemic and as they charge a “cleaning fee”. In fact with what appears to be black mold, they will need to employ a team for black mold remediation as it is a true health hazard that must be addressed

Not what I expected

First the good - pictures of bedrooms are accurate, they are clean and roomy. Neighborhood is good, nice looking house. The bad - rental is a basement suite around back of house. Lots of clutter in walkway. Unclear directions about getting a key so we could actually leave. Very small central living space. Bathroom moldy, bugs, dripping faucet, no toilet paper. Ants in kitchen. Very noisy upstairs- you can hear everything. 6am wake-up from toddler/baby upstairs everyday, lots of crying and stomping and dropping things. Not great.

In general it was ok. BUT keep in mind that it's a basement. We arrived on 2 May, it was really cold. So if you have kids, I'd choose upper unit. Second problem is noise (you hear everything above). There were also lack of some kitchen appliances. Unit was clean and tidy.

Review

The property was clean and manager was pleasant. Perhaps since it is the ground floor there were a lot of ants in the kitchen when we arrived and throughout the stay. Perhaps there is an ant hill nearby or there might have been some food left in the garbage that was attracting them? Be aware that there is not sound proofing so you can hear noise from upstairs which shouldn't be an issue during normal night sleeping hours. Make sure to ask for bath towels ahead of time if required, as none were provided to us until we requested them.
