My husband Bernie and I fell in love with this property and purchased it in November 2018. Six years on, we still wonder at the beauty of the house and its surrounds and feel grateful for having found our beautiful hide-away. It's ever-changing vista and light, views and mist rolling over the mountains; stunning sunrises, friendly birds, old-world garden and the friendliness of the Warby people, enchant us. It is truly magical.

The Garden Cottage, with its separate entrance, has been reborn and refreshed as a place for guests to reset, rest and use as a base from which to explore the delights of the Yarra Valley.

I am an author and my current work-in-progress is an historical piece. My writing room looks out over a climbing wild rose bush. Parrots often visit. Distracting, stunning, uplifting and wonderful to gaze at when needing to think about characters, plot, storyline. And the entertaining birdlife never disappoint. Look past the wild rose to a Japanese maple tree and further on is Mt Donna Buang.

Did I mention the deer who visit. They appear out of the blue. Just be patient and quiet and they will visit.

This property is steeped in a story of love. Purchased over eighty years ago, and built from locally sourced rocks and timber, the houses as it stands today, is testament to a great love. In the 1980s, the owner commissioned a local builder to re-craft the original building into an Austrian-style chalet to appease the aching home-sickness of his beloved wife. The Chalet grew from the Garden Cottage, now reborn, refreshed; perfect for a quiet encounter with nature.

The Austrian-style chalet stands proud and tall, overlooking the village of Warburton and Mt Donna Buang. It has a personality all of its own and its know locally as 'The Chalet.'

We are the current custodians of this wonderful place built on love, and feel privileged to be a small part of its story.
