What does the perfect cottage need to have? Great waterfront; spectacular views; privacy; space inside and out; comfortable beds; plenty of bathrooms; plenty to do if it rains.
The list can run on, and finding a place that ticks all those boxes is hard….until now.
Located perfectly in a small bay at the junction of South River and Forest Lake, this cottage has it all. From the sand beach with the kayaks and canoe all ready to launch, to the firepit with the best views ever, to the expanse of property to play in and around, everyone in the group will find somewhere that’s their favourite.
The sand beach and shallow walkout to the water is just right for swimmers in the group. Hard sand underfoot gives way to a softer lakebed and then some rocks in the bay with the depth around 4ft. Swim out into the lake and it becomes deeper. Take a canoe or kayak up the adjacent river and enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature.
If you don’t want to venture off the deck, that’s fine too. There is comfortable seating overlooking the lawns and the water, and a table for eating out.
Step inside to the cool open-plan living, dining and kitchen space – the whole group can hang out here. But if there’s a movie to watch or a games of table tennis to be played, they might migrate to the family room or the huge games room with ping pong, table games and another large TV.
All the bedrooms – three on the main floor and three on the lower level – have brand new mattresses and top quality linens to ensure a good night’s sleep.
This won’t suit you if you love the hustle and bustle of a big lake with boats speeding past and wake washing up on the shore. But if your idea of a dream vacation is the sound of a loon, or a beaver tail splashing on the water while you paddle the quiet river or head out into Forest Lake, then this could be your heaven.
The delightful town of Sundridge on the shores of Lake Bernard is just a 10 minute drive and you’ll find all you need to restock the fridge when the time comes. There are some great eateries and cafes in town. If it rains at all, you might want to take a trip into North Bay for a spot of mall shopping.

Trivia The nearby Village of Sundridge was originally supposed to be named Sunny Ridge, but when the name was applied for in the late 1800s, an error at the post office department resulted in the name becoming Sundridge. Sundridge developed largely as a result of the extension of the Canadian National Railway (CNR) northward. The first settler in the area – usually considered the village's founder – was James Dunbar in 1876. The CNR route in the area was completed in 1885, and the Village of Sundridge was incorporated in 1889. (Source: Wikipedia)
