Alternative accomodation due to maintenance issues
On the day of our arrival we had an email stating there were maintenance issues with our booked property and another one had been found for us. While we understand that this would have been very difficult in peak tourist time it was unfortunately a considerable downgrade for us.
There was one less bathroom
The hot water wasn’t working and so we all only had 1 hot/ warmish shower during our whole stay despite an electrician coming to “fix” it. There was no Ironing board so 6 wedding outfits had to be ironed on the kitchen table with a towel to protect it.
There was no toilet roll holder or shower curtain. The toilet brush was broken and no washing basket to be found. One 3 seater sofa for 6 people. No potato peeler, no bin-liners and the wheelie bins were already pretty full on our arrival…, you get the picture!! It was all very tired and not up to our hopes for an enjoyable stay.
Then on leaving we made the mistake of checking for anything we might have left behind under the beds - dirt, rubbish and 2 live cockroaches scuttling about was a very fitting finish.
Whilst the property manager who had found this “alternative“ accomodation did offer that we could move back into our original booking even though painting etc was still being done, we would have been moving during the wedding celebrations and festivities so was not appealing, particularly as it wasn’t ready either.
All in all - a definite downgrade for a premium price we had paid a year in advance. We will be asking for a partial refund but who knows if we will see anything
