Ethelmont Rise is a timeless home conveniently located in an iconic Tasmanian setting, on a hill in Sandy Bay with fantastic river views. The space was designed by Sarah Andrews (Captains Rest) and has been featured in several publications, including Home and Garden (UK) and Principles of Style. Our home away from home is designed to provide all you need for a luxurious stay whilst you explore Hobart and Tasmania.

The Space
Ethelmont Rise was built in 1929 on a portion of Ethelmont Estate (owned by Charles Ernest Webster) and once occupied by the Clennett sisters. The home has been recently restored to bring its warm, inviting heritage back to life.

Ethelmont Rise is a place for lovers of beautiful and authentic interiors, with a richly tectured, handmade quality and a curated collection of eclectic treasures.

It is a generous and luxe space for up to 6 guests (not suitable for children under 12 years), fully equipped with all you need for a comfortable stay. Downstairs there are two bedrooms each with a comfortable queen bed with quality Belgian linen sheets.

Upstairs in the attic bedroom are two French single beds for any additional guests. Please note, access to this space is via open stairs that are quite steep and not suitable for children (under 12 years) or the elderly.

Guest Access
Ethelmont Rise is located in Sandy Bay, a 25 minute drive away from Hobart airport.

Ethelmont Rise is situated within a local community so please be mindful of our neighbours during your stay.

A short stroll down the hill and you will find a secluded beach with local ducks. Nutgrove Beach is a 10 minute walk away along Sandy Bay Road and the iconic Hill Street Grocer is 10 minutes walk (up Derwent Water Avenue and then turn right onto Churchill Avenue). For local coffee, MeMi is adjacent to Hill Street Grocer.

We endeavour to listen to our guests and constantly improve our offerings to make our home the best of stays for you.

In response to feedback and in our continual effort to improve your experience, Ethelmont Rise recently underwent a number of refurbishments including fresh paint, and the provision of additional mirror, drying racks, newly polished floors and rugs, and some fresh furnishings. And, there are some new luxurious linens for our comfortable beds.

Please kindly note, as previously shared, that Ethelmont Rise is not suitable for children or pets.

We stock a basic pantry for you, including fresh bread, jam, tea, coffee for the Smeg coffee machine and some basic supplies from the local grocer.

We do not have a TV, as our space is designed for guests to unwind and rest. Unlimited access to wifi is available, should you need it, with access codes located underneath the modem / router underneath the stairs.
