We were planning our first trip to Maine, and Acadia National Park, and on a friend’s recommendation, we booked Cottage 2 on Hodgdon Pond Farm. We knew almost nothing about the area, except my husband’s vague recollection of loving a trip to Maine when he was 9. We knew we wanted something quiet, and the bonus of having a private dock, kayaks, a canoe, and a paddle board at our disposal made Hodgdon Pond an ideal location for us! We have 2 children, so the extra 3rd bedroom was a huge plus as well! Upon our arrival, the cottage was neat & tidy. The full kitchen with dishwasher made cooking so easy. With the location being quiet, there are not a lot of restaurant choices in the immediate area, so we chose to do most of our cooking at home. Picking up fresh, live lobsters from a local lobsterman was a great treat! The kitchen was well stocked with kitchen/cooking supplies. Pots, pans, trays, storage containers, plates, bowls, mugs, cutlery, lobster pot, ect… We also utilized the charcoal grill out back. We spent mornings and evenings on the pond, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and the kids favorite, paddle boarding! One of my young son’s favorite pass times is fishing, so we would regularly find him fishing off the private dock. We spent our days exploring the many beautiful trails and activities available in Acadia National Park. We ventured into Bar Harbor a few times as well which made the return to the “quiet side” even more blissful. The weather in mid July was absolutely stunning! This mid atlantic girl didn’t even miss the air conditioning! If you are considering a trip to Mt. Desert Island, we would highly recommend a stay at Hodgdon Pond!
