Family Float Trip

Excellent for a large family

We enjoyed staying in this property. Perfect place for a large family. We visited 3 state parks during our stay which were less than 30 minutes from the cottage. I would recommend this for a family getaway!

Great place for group get together

The property was perfect for our group of 11 and everyone had their own room and bathroom. The kitchen is huge and has plenty dishes, utensils and cookware. The great room is also huge with plenty of space for gathering. Also ample seating provided on the outside patio. We visited for a float trip and the location was perfect and close to the raft rentals.

Very pleased with our stay here. Spacious bedrooms, each with full bathroom, big living room and dining room areas. My favorite was the large kitchen since we were cooking meals for 12 people!

Great rental for a group

We rented this property for a three-night stay for a small church youth group. It was perfect for our needs! The house was large, clean, and well-provisioned. We loved that each bedroom had an attached bathroom. It was close to several outdoor activities that we enjoyed: canoeing on the Black River, hiking, visiting nearby state parks. We highly recommend this rental.

Prefect place for us

We filled the 8 beds this year and it worked out prefect. Canoe outfitter picked us up at the house. We got to float all day and then all have dinner together at one table. Our 3rd year and another great trip.

Great out doors, swimming, hiking, playing games, cards with a place like home. We love the individual bedrooms and your own bathrooms. Family Canoe trip

The place worked out really well for our big family. It was nice and has all the amenities of home. We were unable to log into their wifi during the entire stay. Most of the dvd players didn't work which kind of sucked when some people wanted to watch a movie in bed. The website shows twin beds in one or two rooms but there are no twin beds. Overall it was a good time. Thank you Shepard's Place.

The Great adventure with the family!

Almost all of the people were there. We had 5 little cute kids under five who were well behaved. It was wonderful to have all of us together. Plus, everyone liked the bathrooms in each room and the larger room for eating and just sitting on couches. The kids really liked the toys we found in the closets. We did have a little trouble the last day with the Wii fi otherwise A great kitchen helped us prepare our meals. The only thing that could have been better was a designated place along the river we could go to. Would recommend it for large groups. Diann King-St Louis

Unplug for a Great Experience!

To begin, let me say that this property worked out fantastic for my family reunion. Everyone had their own rooms and yet we were able to cook, eat, and play together. It is very close to the float operators who take you to the river. The fridge was HUGE and there was so much counter space. lots of plates and utensils as well. The table was large enough for 16 people to get around and worked well for games and dinners. We never watched television so I can't speak to that, but that was also a goal met. Beds were comfortable if not a bit on the creaky side but I heard no complaints from any family members. There was a caretaker living next door and he was absolutely awesome at addressing the small things that popped up and assisting in communication with the owner. One has to remember that cell and internet service is very spotty in this area. so come with a paper map and patience. A bit of constructive criticism: 1) Floors should be cleaned. inside of ten minutes our feet and socks were black. 2) Maybe a heads up on the cattle 25 yards away and a stock of fly traps. the stores in town were completely out of flypaper traps. The kids did have fun killing flies though! 3) Maybe a bigger grill for such a large house. Doesn't even have to be propane or electric. Heck, chop a barrel in half and throw down a grill over it. some briquets and we're good! 4) Maybe another stove if it could fit. We got a bit creative cooking for so many people. 5) Wifi and game systems. That was a big hurdle to get over for some. Someone must have changed the password, cause we were never able to connect. This did help people stay off their phones to avoid the mobile data rates, but this might be a deal breaker for some groups in the future. Some folk just have to stay connected and there are a lot of family games to play on consoles. most game consoles are also family's access to Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, and the like. Evening movie time is important for some. We talked and told stories so it was better for us not to have those things. our lone teenager did not agree (LOL!) All in all, I would call this a successful and enjoyable reunion. Many thanks to Melinda for providing such a spacious and wonderful home. It was a memorable experience and I know one we will cherish!
