Cristine's Cozy Cottage in the Woods - Close to Town and Pet Friendly!

Go back to a simpler time with a visit to this quaint 1940s country farmhouse, complete with a front porch that overlooks Volcan Mountain and a 1/2 acre garden filled with whispering pines, fragrant cedars, and majestic oak trees. I'll supply the lawn chairs for the ultimate in relaxation if you supply the wine from one of our local wineries. Or, if getting out and about is more your speed, come hike in our crisp mountain air, visit an 1870s gold mine, or feast on a succulent apple pie. This tribute to my own grandmother (with many of her vintage antiques and linens) is located one mile from historic downtown Julian and is at the end of a 1/8th of a mile private gravel road. Recently redesigned, this 750 square foot bungalow is perfect for a romantic get-a-away or for a small family of four who wants to experience going back to a gentler time.

In the main house, there is a queen size bed in the larger bedroom, a full size bed in the guest bedroom, and a comfortable foldout bed in the living room. The cottage has the original oak hardwood floors, a quaint country kitchen, an outside BBQ, and Smart TV with DirectTV as well as Netflix, HULU, YouTube, Discovery Plus, Paramount Plus, Prime Video, and HBO Max. Plenty of private onsite parking. Julian is less than an hour from San Diego, so what are you waiting for?

Peaceful cottage
This cottage is in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood. I loved hearing the birds and the wind in the trees. There were all sorts of goodies inside for guests, which included cookies and aromatic soaps. the only thing that was tricky was all the stairs for my senior dog. Very comfortable cottage!

Cozy cottage in Julian
We stayed at Cristine's cottage for a weekend and really enjoyed it. It has all the amenities you would expect and some more. Lots of attention to detail throughout. We particularly enjoyed the quietness of the area and the evenings at the front porche. We will be back in the future.

Cutest bungalow
My elderly parents, brother and I stayed in this cute bungalow, tucked away in a quiet Julian neighborhood. We were only there for a weekend wedding so it suited our needs just fine. It wasn’t modern, by any means, but it had all of the essentials for a quick stay - comfy beds, hot water, coffee, satellite TV and a refrigerator. ;-) The property manager, Cris, was very communicative throughout the whole process and helpful during our stay. Traveling with elderly parents can be a challenge but thankfully this was one less thing I had to worry about. (And they loved it too!).

Great for a couple and a pup
Quiet, out of the way place. Definitely cozy; we considered coming back with my wife's Sister, who's not so mobile, but thought the rustic charm and steps would have been a stretch for her. It was great for an old couple like us with young dog; would also be great with a young couple with 1 or 2 young kids. The hostess, Cristine, could not have been more gracious and accommodating.

Very cozy, nice and quiet. The only down fall was the oven didn't work. It only reach 170 degrees and the Keurig didn't work properly. Other than that, it was a very nice stay.

Cute getaway cottage
My husband and I were looking for a cozy and cute cabin to stay with our dog. If you are a family with a dog, all of Julian is dog friendly hence why we chose Julian over Joshua Tree. Chris was extremely communicative on how to get to the property as well as any fun walks we could take with the dog. She also checked in on us while we were there just to make sure we had everything we needed. The cabin was perfect for us, and they have a lovely property that you can walk around. One of our greatest moments was just relaxing on the front porch, enjoying the breeze, watching and listening to the wildlife. Our stay was perfect.

Peaceful Weekend Getaway
My husband & I had a wonderful stay. My experience of Cris is that she is in communication from start to finish, thinks of every detail, and she makes you feel at home. The house is cozy and has everything needed. I loved that it was away from the town and the property was full of well thought out touches. We will definitely stay again!

Second time staying and just as nice
I stayed with my partner and our dog for the second time because we had such a great time the first time. The location is 5 minutes from town but feels secluded and quiet. Very pet friendly, and nice and cozy even in the winter. Check out Apple Alley, the Blue Door Winery, and Julian Beer Co. We'll be back again!

The cabin was in great condition with all amenities working properly. I'm addition, Chris provided some many coffee and tea options, as well as many food/snack items. The location of the cabin is peaceful and with great mountain views from the from porch.

Cutest cottage ever!
The place is even homier than you could imagine. From the moment we drove up, we were in love. Walking through the door felt like going back in time to my grandmas house. It’s was so quiet and had everything you could ask for and then some. We even got a dog for the few days we were there (a neighbors dog but he walked with us all over the neighborhood). The hosts were very communicative and helpful and even gave us ideas of what to do. It was perfect for what we wanted, a little family getaway. We’ll definitely be coming back.

Just like Grandma's house
The cottage is decorated meticulously with attention to detail the cute little cottage reminds me of my grandparents house with the back porch. The coffee and tea amenities were fabulous we really enjoyed having that available. We were there with our dogs and they enjoyed the cottage along with the outdoor area. I'd love to sitting on the front porch and feeding the Scrub Jays. It's a quiet relaxed atmosphere. Wi-Fi and television are available for late night entertainment. It's close to Julian but far enough away that you didn't have to deal with all the tourists in traffic. Definitely will stay again. I can't thank Christina enough for the attention she gave us and helpful hints to enjoy our stay.

We enjoyed our weekend at this well appointed and adorably decorated little house. Quiet neighborhood yet close to town and lots of great hiking trails. It was nice to spend a weekend away, yet so close to home. We'll definitely be back.

Quiet Mountain Getaway
Just what we were looking for. A place to drink coffee on the porch, A place for the kiddos to run around, a place for our family to relax for the weekend. Our trips to Julian are never long enough and this was no exception. Chris was such an amazing host...every detail from check in to check out made us feel so welcomed and special! The cabin is cozy, but plenty of space for the 4 of us to hang out, cook dinner, sleep etc. The bathroom is tiny, we were giggling about that...but it's just a bathroom, use it and go back outside! The porch was my absolute favorite place to be. My girls loved being able to play among the trees and collect nature treasures. We can't wait to come back! Thank you so much!!

Perfect location for exploring Julian and surrounding areas. Home is cozy for a couple or small family and the kitchen is stocked to accomodate home cooked meals. Perfect place
When we walked in it smelled like apple cinnamon, very pleasant! Super clean! So many things were provided, all we really needed to bring was a change of clothing and a toothbrush! Owner was also pleasant and easy to get a hold of. Not far from town.

Absolutely an amazing stay. The property is beautiful and and close to town but secluded at the same time. My wife and I love this property and cottage and can't wait to return for another stay. We had a great stay at Cristine's Cozy Cottage. It is a very nostalgic venue but is well maintained. The Apple theme is very well done. There was only two of us, but could easily accommodate four. The kitchen has enough room, but the attached pantry is *very* roomy - you can store your stuff like coolers and backpacks and still walk around in it. The back yard is pretty large with plants and trees - great for outside relaxing. We had excellent Spring weather and didn't need any heating or cooling, but there is a heater and air conditioning. We couldn't have been happier with the accommodations.

Julian has always had a special place in my heart...my first memories are of my mother waking me up in Orange County at 4am and piling me into our Volkswagen bug for the 2 hour drive up to Julian to catch the birds singing at sun up! She was an avid bird watcher, and we came to Julian at least once a month during the spring and summer months. When she passed, I started making trips by myself to Julian in memory of her and bought my first vacation rental in 2011. This cozy cottage is my second of three vacation rentals, and it's my favorite, and as mentioned, it is a tribute to my Mom and her mother with many of their antiques and furnishings.

The cottage is in the Whispering Pines neighborhood, which is a 5 minute drive from downtown Julian....just close enough to enjoy the town and its festivities, but far enough for the quiet and peacefulness of country living!

The cottage is on an acre of wooded land with oaks, pines and cedar trees with room to explore while basking in the majesty of a view of Volcan Mountain. In addition, there is a medicine wheel on the property with Mason jars for guests to gather nature's jewels, such as our red rocks or fall leaves, and set their intentions or prayers for the coming year.

If more room is needed for additional family members, there is a second house on the property that can be rented separately through this online site. Please contact the owner for additional information!
