Incredible views and wonderful living/kitchen area

Could not have asked for a better holiday. The house was fantastic. The location even better. Ongoing dialogue with the owners was great. Wonderful stay at Villa Mare!

Pat and Vaughn were gracious hosts and welcomed us with treats and a lovely note. The house was beautiful and spotlessly clean. We loved sitting on the outdoor balcony and watching the sun set over Carmel Bay. We had a great time!

Perfect place to relax with lovely ocean views

It was wonderful to return to Villa Mare a second time to unwind post-Christmas. The home is beautifully designed both inside and out. And we love its 180-degree view (mountains and ocean!), from its top floor which has a huge open plan grand room + balcony. We so enjoyed spending much of our time there. Its really a 'destination home' in the unbeatable location of Carmel Pat and Vaughn are also very gracious hosts, provisioning their home with many extras and accommodating requests for a late check out. Its on our list to return again!

Wonderful house in a tremendous location. Although accurate the pictures don’t truly show how nice this house is. The house is spacious, and very well thought out with rooms that flow from one area to the next. The fact that you could walk to downtown Carmel on the nearby trail made the house even better.

Magical Gem on the Hill

Our stay at Villa Mare could not have been any more wonderful than it was! The home is spacious and beautifully decorated. Everything we could possibly have needed was provided with bonuses such as a luxurious outdoor shower and the most fantastic view in Carmel. We were in heaven! Vaugh and Pat have created a truly special home. We will be eternally grateful to them for sharing their place with us as it was the very best family vacation we have ever experienced!

Terrific experience

Villa Marie was just what we were looking for. We did not want to stay in a hotel during these crazy times but we also wanted to attend the golf tournament. The home was beautiful and very spacious for the four of us. All the amenities, nice trail walk to town, fabulous owners who couldn't have been more gracious and helpful. Thank you Vaugh and Pat! Wonderful stay!

Excellent communication with hosts from beginning to end. Delightful home in a gorgeous setting. Looking out over the Mission to the Bay. The elevator is such a remarkable plus for us as we have 1 family member using a wheelchair. But she was able to get to every floor!! Pat and Vaughn are extremely hospitable hosts leaving delicious snacks and drinks/coffee. They have invested a lot of love into this beautiful home and we all felt it. We’re definitely hoping to return one day!

Spacious with great views

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Mare. The house is spacious with several outdoor balconies and indoor nooks for communal gathering, game-playing or private reading. Its elevation commands lovely views over the rooftops to the bay. The kitchen is excellently appointed for home cooking. The bathrooms are clean, roomy and generously stocked with amenities. The beds are comfortable. Pat and Vaughn are attentive, friendly hosts who remained discreet but available to answer any questions. The location is a quick drive down the hill into Carmel (or a nice walk for the hardy) and only 10-15 minutes to Monterey, with convenient access as well to a host of course options for golfers. No regrets here.

Nothing short of Celebrity Style Vacation!

Over the 30 years we have been renting via VRBO, we have never stayed in such a beautiful, grand and well designed home! Pat and Vaughn pretty much thought of everything from major to the most minor details and amenities to make us feel absolutely welcome and appreciated. My whole family stayed comfortably and were overwhelmed by the beauty of the house and terrace view from morning to night. The only negative part was having to leave.. Wonderful--Again!!

We had a wonderful stay on this property last year and were very happy to return for a week this spring. Again, we had a wonderful time!! The property is lovely, well appointed, and located in a great spot. Hosts Pat and Vaughn are truly special people and they attend to every need with speed and grace. Staying there is like staying in an Italian villa. The main living space has glass walls and a view of the Mission and the ocean. The property sits right next to easy trails that one can take to get to the ocean in 15-20 minutes on foot. And in front of the property there is a lovely garden and fountain. We had such a relaxed time and were able to enjoy the downtown restaurants 10 minutes away by far. A big thanks again to Pat and Vaughn. We look forward to returning!

Stunning villa

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the stunning villa. The villa is gorgeous with stunning views, real artwork and tasteful decor throughout. Walking distance to a redwood grove via mission trails (bring your hammock). The hosts are lovely people who thoughtfully stocked the fridge with beer, wine, waters, cheese, crackers, juices, half and half...basically everything we needed to enjoy our first evening/morning in the villa. The views from the balconies are stunning and practical with an outdoor heater, fire table and seating for all. In the evening the view of the stars is amazing. The outdoor shower was invigorating and unique. You won't regret your vacation here. We also recommend renting e-bikes at Mad Dogs and Englishmen to ride the 17 mile drive. We will definitely try to book again, the next time we visit Carmel. Thank you Pat and Vaughn for a lovely stay!

Delightful Ambiance

We had an excellent experience staying at Pat and Vaughn’s amazingly beautiful Villa. They are wonderful hosts who have thought of every detail to make your stay comfortable and worry-free. Snacks, as well as beer and wine, are provided to unwind from your travels. There is an elevator which was most welcomed by one of our family members who uses a walker for mobility. The home is located adjacent to Mission Trails Park. A short hike will take you to the Carmel Mission Basilica Museum. There is also the historical ivy-covered Flanders Mansion within the park. The amazing vista from the deck is unsurpassed. One can view the mission and the Carmel Bay beyond. Enjoy the sunset and listen to the hooting owls in the evening while enjoying the evening sky with a glass of wine. Thank you, Pat and Vaughn, for sharing your fantastic Villa.

Absolutely Gorgeous

I have stayed at plenty of VRBO homes and condo's and this has to be the nicest home we have ever stayed in! Vaughn and Pat are great hosts and the nicest of people. They have thought of every amenity, from coffee, to everything else you might need. They wanted to model the experience to staying in a five star hotel, and they have succeeded at offering that. The views from the balcony are breathtaking, whether you want to have your morning coffee out there, or watch the sunset with a glass of wine. This living room opens up to the deck with accordian windows and starting a roaring fire in the family room fireplace really makes the downstairs feel cozy. If you want to prepare your own meals, they have everything you need, or if you want to go out to eat, you are five minutes from restaurants in Carmel. The elevator is also very handy getting your luggage or groceries up to the top floor. The outside deck has BOTH a firepit, and a propane heater so whether it's summer and it's foggy, or winter and it can be in the 50's, you'll be plenty warm and enjoying the view. I highly recommend that anyone who wants a once in a lifetime experience in Carmel, rent this home, you won't be sorry. Dave Thomas

Absolutely Stunning Property

Beautiful Villa that exceeded expectations for our family of 5 (teen, 50s and 70s/80s crew). The views of ocean/Point Lobos/Carmel River State Beach, the Carmel Mission Basilica, and the Carmel Valley hillside to the southeast from the Villa balcony were stunning, as were the sunsets. We definitely used the provided high end binoculars to take in the views! Outdoor gas fireplace allowed us to enjoy the sunset and remain on the balcony for an additional 1-2 hours to visit. Kitchen, dining area, and coffee bar (keurig) very well equipped. Only ate out once, and welcome package of food/drink amenities a lovely touch. Our family remained on the top floor to visit, play board games, enjoy fire and watch movies (cable/xfinity) together. Bedrooms situated far enough from top floor/main living area for individuals to get away and have privacy if needed. Elevator a real bonus and made grocery transport from door to refrigerator very easy. Outdoor shower a big hit for Grandpa. Local (and well attended to) hiking trails connected us to downtown (20 min walk) as well as the Carmel Mission and Carmel River State Beach. Communication with Pat and Vaughn was superb. Couldn't ask for more. Made for a memorable family extended weekend/holiday together, and plan to come back. Met up w/ our kids & their partners (ages 21-27yrs.) came from 5 cities in Europe,Canada & the U.S.This Villa took our breath away (& we are seasoned 5-star global travellers -for business & pleasure)! High quality, custom-built Villa with superb views of ocean & mountains; lots of natural light from skylights/windows; elevator, Top quality for everything; beautiful decor; very clean; very comfy beds/bedding; open-concept living room/ dining room/ kitchen/library; large outdoor furnished terrace w bbq/fire table/heater+2 private furnished decks off 2 bdrms; well-stocked with towels (bath,beach,kitchen towels); all supplies (Ziploc bags; alum.foil; Saran Wrap; etc.);pots/serving bowls/cutlery/wine glasses; laundry chute; the outdoor shower was a hit!; 1 bathroom easy to share due to private toilet/ private shower/ double sinks.Games Rm. Located next to an easy 20min.Trail walk to Mission Ranch Restaurant, the Carmel Mission, Carmel Beach & downtown Carmel. Near Monterey/Pebble Bch/ Point Lobos. One daughter got a soccer injury 2days prior & Hosts got her a Transport Chair for her use for free! Had the best beach chairs/wheeled cooler & a Beautyrest plug in inflatable air mattress. Grocery Starter kit was great! Tip: Bring eye mask for MasterBdrm to sleep-in. Nothing else needed. Nice to add: Füssball table? Hot tub? Can’t wait to return!

A true gem overlooking Carmel Bay and Mission

In some ways, I’d rather keep this place a secret, but it such a great house I guess I have to share. Vaughn & Pat were excellent hosts and live on the property. They gave us privacy, but were there if we needed anything and were very accommodating. The house is gorgeous inside and out! The rental is on the second and third floors of the house with balconies off the great room and the two larger bedrooms. They all have amazing views of the Carmel bay and mission. There are three bedrooms and two large bathrooms. The master bedroom and bathroom are upstairs, on the same floor with the great room, with large kitchen, dining area, living area and office. The master is huge, with fireplace, huge closet, king bed, and an amazing bathroom that wraps around. The balcony area off the master is called the spa deck and has an awesome outdoor shower, which I used every day. The other two bedrooms are downstairs on the second floor and on the same floor is the game room area. There is a day bed in the hallway if you need extra beds for your group, the larger of the two bedrooms has a balcony with two chairs and lots of closet space. There is a shared bathroom between the other bedroom with separate shower area, toilet area and sink/counter area, nice for sharing. The third bedroom is the smallest, but has a large dressing room and closet, but is a bit on the darker side. Located right next to the property is the Flanders trail, which we used to walk to the mission, to the beach or to the village every day. Also it was cool to see the Flanders Mansion there as well. I would highly recommend this house for two couples or families. I should also mention that there is an elevator and plenty of parking. The house is well stocked with every you need, including lots of coffee, tea, beverages, crackers, cheese, OJ, wine, beer and more. The furniture and artwork were very all very beautiful and comfortable. We were very sad to leave, and we had an amazing time enjoying the house and area. I hope to return another time!

Absolutely wonderful!

Our stay was absolutely wonderful! The property, home and hosts were as billed and much, much more. Modern Italian villa with every amenity and a stunning view from a living area with a folding glass wall that allows a gentle sea breeze to roll in. A one minute walk from trails and a historic mansion, and six-minute drive to downtown Carmel's terrific restaurants. Plenty of space, extremely well maintained. And our hosts are very special people, who were fun to speak with and who were clearly committed to making our stay perfect. Very highly recommended--we will be back!

Wonderful Venue for a Special Event

A group of women convened at Villa Marie for a surprise 50th birthday celebration. What a wonderful venue for such an occasion. We cooked, hiked, shopped, and simply spent time visiting and enjoying the awesome vistas. Pat and Vaughn are delightful--the perfect hosts. Would love to make this an annual outing!

Spectacular sunrise-to-sunset views of the ocean, the Carmel Mission, Carmel Bay, Point Lobos and the Santa Lucia Mountains. A working cattle ranch (Fish Ranch) is in the view - we can hear the cows when it's feeding time - and downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea is an easy stroll away.
