Villa Rook liegt nahe der kulturell und künstlerisch wichtigsten Denkmäler der Stadt

Pisa: die Piazza dei Miracoli mit dem berühmten Schiefen Turm, dem Dom und dem

Baptisterium liegt nur in etwa 3 km Entfernung, sprich ist in 8 Autominuten erreichbar.

Sowohl der internationale Flughafen Galileo Galilei als auch der Bahnhof mit schnellem

Das Meer liegt wenige Kilometer entfernt: Marina di Pisa mit seinem neuen touristischen

Hafen Tirrenia, die Küste der Versilia, Torre del Lago und das exklusive Forte dei Marmi.

Die Villa Rook liegt am Rande eines der größten Naturparks der Toskana, dem Parco di

Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli, der sich über tausende von Hektaren zwischen der

Provinz von Pisa und der von Lucca ausbreitet. Den Park kann man zu Fuß, mit dem

Fahrrad oder auf dem Pferd besuchen; in seinem Inneren befindet sich die in der

Vergangenheit sehr gefeierte Pferderennbahn, das Ippodromo di San Rossore. Aus den

Pferdeställen der Villa Rook in Barbaricina, dem als „Dorf der Pferde“ bekannten Ort,

sind legendäre Vollblüter hervorgekommen. Insbesondere kamen aus der Pferdezucht

Rook zwei besondere Vollblüter hervor: „Andreina“, die das erste italienische Derby im

Galopp im Jahre 1884 gewann und „Goldoni“, welcher das Derby im Jahre 1896 gewann.

Nach dem Gründer ist heutzutage der gleichnamige und berühmte Große Preis von

Thomas Rook benannt, sowie auch die Hauptstraße der Ortschaft; auf der zum Garten

zeigenden Fassade ist heute noch das aus einem Gedicht von Shakespeare genommenen

Motto des Rennstalles zu lesen:“let not advantage slip“.

Die Villa Rook ist nicht modern eingerichtet sondern es handelt sich vielmehr um einen

antiken Wohnsitzt mit Reiz durch Kunst und Geschichte. Das Motto lautet Ausruhen und

relax in 6/7 Zimmern (4 Ehebetten und 2 Doppelbetten), 4 Bäder, Wohnzimmer und ein

bequemer Garten mit Veranda und Schwimmbad.

Great Summer Holidays with 7 children
We spent great summer holidays in Villa Rook from August 04 to 18 (4 adults and 7 children). The pool was the absolute highlight. All was clean and perfectly serviced by Pamela and her parents. The ambiance of the house was authentic and especially for the children like a little castle. Palm trees, oleanders and pines completed the romantic garden. Only the drain behind the house sometimes smelt very foul, and the traffic nearby the house often was very noisy. All in all we enjoyed our time in Villa Rook. S. and P. from Munich, Germany

Splendid house with loads of charm
Eva's house is truly amazing. We spent a family vacation there with three generations under the same roof, 14 people in total. The house offers plenty of space both inside and outside. The sleeping rooms are spacious, there are several living rooms with numerous sofas and chairs, the kitchen/dining room is enormous with plenty of ustensiles for all 14 people. Outside you have two large roofed terraces, one with a big table around which we could all dine. The pool is lovely, and Carlos, came by to clean it every day. We did notice the smell from the stream running past the backside of the house, but since we were aware of it beforehand, and since you did not notice it in the front side of the house, it was no issue at all. Eva is very kind, responsive and helpful. She always answered every message very quickly and responded to any question or query. The bonus of this house is truly its atmosphere and the history that Eva has been so kind as to describe in a short text available in the house. A history that echoes in the decoration of the house and the surrounding area. The situation is also good with several grocery stores within a 5 minute drive and the Tower of Pisa very closeby, reachable by foot or by bus.

Nice spacious Villa
The villa is very spacious,. although some parts could use some maintenance. The closed garden was perfect for our dogs. Because off all the horses close by, there are may flies during the day, and in the evening there are many mosquitoes. At some times there was a faul smell coming from the small stream behind the building.

Stupenda Villa con Piscina
Rapporto qualità prezzo più che eccellente. Villa con ampi spazi sia all interno che all esterno. Eva è stata gentilissima e sempre a nostra disposizione. Giornalmente la piscina e il giardino venivano puliti e sistemati dall inserviente anche lui molto gentile. Siamo stati veramente bene consiglio vivamente per un gruppo di ragazzi.

Amazing villa with drawbacks
Fantastic accommodation with full of Tuscan authenticity. We found 3 drawbacks: nasty smells from adjacent open sewer, so you can’t open the windows, abundance of mosquitoes in the house, and lack of easy access to public transport (apart from one infrequent bus going to station). We asked the guardian to clean all the deckchairs covered with pigeon droppings and he came. Hot drinks are provided but nothing else; being in Tuscany it would have been a good idea to find olive oil for instance. Overall it was an amazing special villa full of character and we had a nice time.

Beautiful place for a great holiday
I stayed 10 days in May with friends and then with family. Everyone was enchanted with villa Rook charms, garden and history. The kids loved running around from one room to the other. Despite a few rainy days, we were still able to enjoy the outdoor area and profited from the spacious saloons and kitchen. The villa is well equipped. It is also well located for day trips to Florence, Lucca, San Gimignano, the chianti area, Cinque Terre... We all had a great time! Thank you Eva.

Pleasant and Elegant
Whilst the ride from the airport was quite short, I was impressed by how peaceful the Villa and its surroundings were. A true example of charm and elegance. My students truly appreciated the comfort and the beauty of the Villa, let alone the wonderful wisteria patio which was the background of our morning and afternoon meetings. The swimming pool was perfectly clean and the appropriate setting for our evening aperitivo and dinners. I wish to thank Eva for her superb support. MD

Lovely big house for people to relax in and enjoy!
We were 14 adults staying in the house. All the rooms are spacious and you don’t feel over crowded. We did a lot of catering at home and it was easy to do and we enjoyed the big table in the kitchen. Eva arranged a beautiful Italian Meze for a minimal cost on our arrival which was absolutely delicious, so I can really recommend you do that! It was a bit cool to use the pool but it will be perfect in the hot summer months. We walked into Pisa which was easy and no worrying about parking. It’s close to the airport and train station as well. It’s a good house to relax in. Thank you again Eva

Great location and wonderful villa, full of history.
We thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday at Villa Rook, but some areas would need to be addressed if I was to consider re-booking. Firstly all mattresses and bedding need replacing. Beds very uncomfortable. All bedding and pillows old and worn. Outside seating area backs onto a waterway of stinking stagnant water, attracting mosquitoes, and therefore rendering that area pretty un- usable. Sounds very negative, but if only these things were sorted I would happily go back.

We have rented through VRBO 4-5 times and this was the first time we were disappointed. The rental had ripped draperies and broken furniture. Pictured areas, we had hoped to use, were completely uninviting. A drainage ditch running behind the home filled the building and back of property with a foul odor. We had to keep all doors and windows closed at the back of the house to try to reduce the odor. At night mosquitoes filled the house causing all to be bitten repeatedly while they tried to sleep. Mosquito netting should be provided as there are no window screens . Bedroom off the kitchen was dank and musty. The pool was clean and usable. the kitchen was large and adequate.and the bathrooms were good. Sheets and towels need to be upgraded. Fortunately my family are not complainers and are all good travelers, we put up with the problems , spent as little time in the house as possible and enjoyed day trips into the surrounding area. Would not recommend this rental.

We had an enchanted family reunion
Despite our late arrival Eva was there to welcome us with a nice bottle of local vin santo and cantucci (tpical cookies). She nicely guided us through the house, telling interesting stories about it, and gave us useful tips on the area. We immediately felt very comfortable. During our three days there the weather hasn't been too good so it was with extreme pleasure that, after intensive cultural visits and some beautiful rambles in the countryside (and some great shopping in town by the way), we would return home. Staying indoor, enjoying the company, in the cosy atmosphere of a charming house was a real treat and definitely made our stay! We are planning to go back end of next summer, to savor again the pleasure of the "dolce far niente" in a kind of James Ivory setting. And next time we shall also take advantage of the swimming pool and the horse riding facilities. We really apreciated to be in a place where the time seems to have stopped a century ago, it was indeed a regenerating break from the usual routine and quite a discovery for our teenagers. We have already expressed our contentment to our hostess but once more wont do any harm, therefore thank you Eva for preserving and sharing this little piece of Italian history.

Perfect family vacation in Tuscany
This was my first time booking with HomeAway and it will not be my last! I was very happy with the accommodations here and found the surroundings gorgeous. The house was exactly as describe on your site and the hostess was extremely supportive and available to assist us with any questions or needs we had. The house was clean and tidy, full of original antiques and everything was very authentic, quaint and charming. All major appliances in perfect working order. Garden very well kept. What a great experience we had, I have absolutely only good memories of our stay. Thank you!

Charming Tuscan Villa
The house is lovely and spacious. It has a practical kitchen and comfortable beds and living areas. The antique furnishings and decoration give this property a wonderful period feel and the garden is a little hidden gem of 19th century design. I can't imagine there are many left which are so well maintained. The owner was very helpful which made finding the property and enjoying our stay easy. Unfortunately the lady who handled the check-in spoke very little English, but she was very polite and professional and we managed to complete the process without issue. I'd be more than happy to stay Villa Rook again. Take care Eva!

Partially refurbished, but sadly neglected
This villa is old as the title indicates. However, we also found it to be neglected. Whilst it was clean all the soft furnishings felt dusty and damp to the touch. It was very dark inside unlike the pictures in the photographs. When we attempted to open the shutters some would not open. The lights were very dim, again much different to the photographs on the website. I tried to open a window and my hand went straight through it because panes of glass were missing. There was a general musty, unused smell about it inside. Outside, the pool whilst immaculately clean was bordered by crumbling concrete and then gravel meaning that as soon as you get out of the pool your feet will be covered in dirt. The chairs around the pool were also very old and uncomfortable. Walking around the garden we discovered a partially burnt out bonfire with what looked like pyjamas and table linen. With regards to the owner, we found her to be slow at answering enquiries. When we asked to pay via Owner's Direct and how to do it she didn't reply leading us to pay her directly as it was only a couple of weeks before we were due to arrive and we were concerned that we would lose the accommodation. This has meant we had no protection when things went wrong. We had told the Owner we didn't speak any English and has asked her if this would be a problem. Despite this upon arrival we were shown around the villa by a non English speaking representative of the owner who presented us with a contract written in Italian despite having advised the owner that we do not speak Italian. This immediately gave us reservations. All in all, we would describe this as an old villa which has been sadly neglected. We left after just one afternoon and found alternative accommodation.
