We have just returned from a fabulous short trip with friends, staying at this lovely little house in Raissac. Four adult couples comfortably shared this house, and the one next door, for five nights and each couple had a double room and bathroom to themselves. We loved the stylish interior, finished with typical French simplicity, white walls, blue shutters, antique furniture in the bedrooms combined with modern sofas and chairs downstairs. The beds were comfortable, clean and warm, and the kitchen was well equipped with every mod con you could need. The shared outside space was perfect for al fresco breakfast and lunch, and even in April it was (occasionally) hot enough to soak up the sun on the comfortable sun loungers.
Although the village is quiet if you have a car then it's easy to reach local towns for shops, supermarkets, wine supplies, some fab restaurants and pharmacies. We ventured on days out to the beach at Leucate Plage, with some flamingo spotting along the way, Narbonne indoor food market and cathedral, Carcassone by day for shopping and at night for a meal, Minerve with its dramatic drive and location, plus we also managed to fit in a fantastic half day cookery course at La Domaine Veronique in nearby Capestang. There's so much to see and do from this location you'll never get bored and it makes for the perfect combination of sightseeing and sunbathing. For everyday essentials like croissants, milk, butter and bread the village co-operative shop is open each morning and will take orders (worth knowing as the croissants sell out early!). The house(s) suited our trip perfectly, and we would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this off-the-beaten-track location as the perfect spot for a long weekend, family holiday or stopping point if you're driving to Spain. It's not luxury, but it is lovely!
