Wheelchairs, poor maintenance & no front desk help

The property itself was nice but maintenance had been neglected. The worst of it was the lack of hot water in the kitchen and one of the bedroom baths . That took almost a week to fix during our 10 day stay. The plunge pool water was cloudy when we arrived because the water level was very low; so low that it was below the skimmer pot inlet. That was fixed on day 4 of our stay. The listing says wheel chair accessible. That was a stretch to say the least. Yes, there is an elevator (actually needed two different ones to get to our 3rd floor room with no clear direction or map from the front desk upon check-in - CONFUSING!!!) Then we discovered that there was no elevator to access the pool deck, so my wheelchair user wife had to struggle with a long stairwell up to the pool deck, using a hand rail that was rusted off the wall in two places (also finally fixed on day 4 of our stay). Also, the raised threshold on the entry door (to keep rainwater from entering the apartment creates a challenge for any wheelchair user. Perhaps the most disappointing thing about this property though was the complete lack of accountability or assistance from the front desk staff. It was clear after 3 or 4 attempts to solicit help from the front desk for anything (even including recommendations to local restaurants) that they were there to check you in and out and nothing more. One maddening episode occurred where a cleaning crew would not exit the elevator to allow us to take my wheelchaired spouse down to the ground floor. We had to wait 10 minutes before they completed their cleaning. The bright spot was our Angel Host service lady, Gladys Marroquin. Though clearly overworked, she made the effort to come to the apartment on the 3rd day of our stay and got the hot water, faulty hand rail and poor pool water fixed. She even provided a free maid service to clean the apartment, change the bed sheets and have our party of 6 clothes laundered halfway through our stay as an apology for the poor maintenance. She was wonderful! As mentioned at the beginning of this review, the property is nice. It could have been wonderful if expectations had been better set about three things: - what “wheelchair accessible” really means at the Aldea Thai - had maintenance been performed on the property - that there is no concierge service at the front desk The bottom line was that this property disappointed us.

Wonderful Experience!!

We LOVED this condo! It was perfect for our family of 5. The rooftop patio and pool were the crowning jewel. The location is great with easy access to the beach and 5th Ave. We had one little issue at check-in, that was just a little laps in communication but it was quickly resolved. The two suggestions I would make for improving the space would be a dryer for wet towels & swimwear and a light in the stairway that leads to the rooftop. Other than that, we absolutely could not ask for a more perfect experience!

Faulty plumbing and nearby construction

Many of the water fixtures were not working properly. The hot tub and the master room doesn't even work at all as well as the guest shower alternator. There is constant banging from multiple construction sites across the hall off and on all day. The hot water was not working this morning. There is so much chlorine in the private pool it is not even enjoyable and stung my kids eyes. The room and building as a whole is poorly maintained. This is not luxury living as advertised. Maybe 10 years ago. We are disappointed as we were very excited upon arrival. It seems to us like the owners are just milking their investment and management doesn't have the passion or motivation to keep the place up. Who rents to people knowing their is construction right across the hall? That's just wrong. Who rents to people when the water doesn't work properly and didn't check first? We were debating on leaving but since we're just leaving tomorrow we decided to stay our last night. Thank you to the people who came to repair the issues and I hope you never have to deal with something like this when you save up your money and take your family on vacation 4000 miles away from home.

Bait and Switch Oversell

Positives: The plunge pool and rooftop. The unit did have much of what we needed in terms of items. The A/C, when not cut off, worked fantastic, the Big screen TV worked great as did the Internet. I still wish I could get some $$ back. Now the rest: The place is worn, badly worn. It truly is not a 3 bedroom unit, but actually a 2 bedroom apartment with an "adjoining" hotel room (for the property) that can be added as a 3rd bedroom, and not a great room at that. The towel rack about to fall off, toilet paper holder same as well as faucet to the bath sink. Also the above mount sink has splashed so much water on the mirror that the frame is beginning to separate from the mirror. Safe didn’t work, nor the hairdryer. Now the Kitchen, some of the outlets (plugs) in the kitchen did not work, the refrigerator freezer door had been beat on and was all dented up (luxury?). Tiles on the floor have become loose and grout has begun to come up (not a deal breaker). The living room, all are designed the same, the cloth sofa area needed some serious steam cleaning, you could see stains on it as well as the musty remains of mildewing from being near a humid environment. That and they weren't all that comfortable. Some plugs here didn’t work as well. The other master bedroom had an absolute flood coming in through the bedroom window, thus one beach towel was used to mitigate said flood. The other double bedroom was not used and it seemed the TV in it had been moved somewhere else. The bathrooms seemed a bit better on this side of the unit. Their hairdryer worked, but safe never worked. Also, the beds are platform type, but not on a true platform, so a bit uncomfortable. At check in, they stated that they cut power and water if anyone was loud (we are in our 60’s haha). But many were, all night. But interesting enough the power and water went off our last 4 nights. All 4 of us had Turista, so a working toilet would have been nice and sanitary. Also, the power tripped the wifi thermostat, thus my wife and I woke up 3 nights straight with our room at 88 degrees. I just think they told us that so they could do it anyway. BTW the front desk folks were useless.

Ideal!

Just perfect! We loved this property. Aldea Thai was absolutely elegant. Our rooms were tasteful, spacious, well appointed. There were some minor finishes that require maintenance or updates, but this does not detract from the overall quality of the condo. We were overwhelmed by the rooftop. The pool was far bigger than I expected and was amazing, we used it so much! The view is incredible. Great location, we enjoyed Mamitas and the many many excellent restaurants that we could walk to. I opted to have my groceries delivered and they did such an excellent job, not only with our groceries, but also accommodated my special request for a specially item (best tamales ever!) Great communication from host and service, highly recommend.

Enjoyed our stay!

We enjoyed our stay at the Aldea Thai! The grounds were well kept and maintained. The unit itself did have small maintenance issues like a bathroom light bulb being out, and the jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom being inoperable, but these were not deal breakers for me. Everyone in our party was comfortable and we will return!

Perfect Family getaway

location was perfect for our family, close to the beach (roughly one block) and close to all the shopping and restaurtants. We found we loved the restaurants on Calle 38 the best. Just a short walk from our location. Overall with rooftop pool, main pool and beach we had plenty to do. Communication with hosts and vimex group in arranging a chef was easy!

Excellent location and Very good value-Would stay here again

I have come to Playa twice per year for the last several years. This is my second time staying in a condo in Aldea Thai and my first time staying in this particular condo. One thing that stood out is the easy communication with Daniela and Angel who always responded to my questions and requests. This is very important especially when you're on vacation in another country and that certainly entices me to stay here again. I thank them for their hospitality during our stay. Aldea Thai is my favorite condo to stay in because it is just close enough to Mamitas Club (which we preferred to Kool Beach beach club) that you can walk there in minutes and close enough to fifth avenue to walk in minutes but far enough away from the clubs and street noise which can be really loud in other locations. This particular condo is really nice in that it is closer to the ocean side. Sitting on the roof top deck, which we often did having our wine and cheese while watching the sunset is pretty spectacular. It's also nice to know that there is security poised at the entrance and thus you feel more secure staying here especially if with family. Aldea Thai is, in general, an older building compared to some of the new properties that are coming up in Playa and so to be honest, it does show some wear and tear and maybe could use some freshening up i.e. furnishings, bathrooms ,etc. but that's probably true of all the condos in this building. Only other issue is noise. The building has a policy of no music after midnight. The problem with this is that on 2 of our 4 nights, the condo opposite of us played their music incredibly loud. There doesn't seem to be a policy on music volume. The same condo opposite us, at one point seemed to be having a party and this seemed to be tolerated by the condo security. I have no issue with residents wanting to enjoy their company and music but when it becomes disruptive to our relaxation and enjoyment, I think that requires some intervention by the condo security. My one wish is that maybe one day the condo could have a small washer dryer -when you're on vacation with your family- it helps to be able to wash clothes so you can pack less clothing. One thing to realize is that despite my last few comments, this condo is an excellent value for the space, bathrooms, location and most importantly the roof top deck. It's really hard to beat this view and location. I suspect if it were newer, it would be much more expensive to stay here.

Excellent Rooftop

Upon arrival our room smelled of bug spray... however, there were small living roaches in the master bathroom. We alerted Axel and he sent a cleaning lady out and she took out our trash that only had tissue in it. Outside of roaches the room was a great size and the patio is excellent with a good view to the beach. Axel went the extra mile picking up a birthday cake and dropping it off to the room. Great place....great location!

I would stay in this unit the next time we visit. Our families 2nd trip to Playa and this is the location you want to stay and the unit is excellent. Beach block - in this location you'll be glad the development is not right on the beach. Walk out the development and there is everything - food, bars, convenience stores, pharmacy, etc - all on the way to beach - 1 minute walk and lots of activity. Walk the other direction and the start of 5th avenue is a 2 minute walk. The unit itself is exactly as pictured - rooftop unit has it all. Spacious bedrooms with plenty of living space. The rooftop pool is a great size and heated. Both the management company and owners are helpful and responsive.

Perfect location for a great vacation

We had a great week of fun and sun! This villa is perfectly located to enjoy everything downtown has to offer and a very short walk to the beach. Villa is as the photos and descriptions show 3 bdm, 2 king suites and one with 2 fulls, all three bathrooms are large with walk in showers and the suites with large baths, the main living area is spacious and comfortable. Absent was a dishwasher, oven, broom, salt and pepper & coffee filters. The master has enough floor space for another bed (mattress only) which we ordered for 10 usd / night for a 5th bed. The roof top was awesome. Nice ocean view, not all units have this good of a view. 6 sun deck lounging chairs so we moved the patio couch cushions out into the sun deck area and that worked great. Private rooftop pool was awesome and used alot, having the pool heated some would have been a bonus. Communication with the owner was great. Experience with the staff at check-in, baggage and having our groceries brought up to the room was excellent, bath and beach towels were switched out as requested. We did not have daily house keeping but it was available upon request. Check out was not so smooth, do not leave room keys inside your room bring them down at checkout and return all wrist bands. The complex pool was large and well kept. The courtyard water feature is in need of repair, other than that the complex was well enough maintained and safe. Able to bring your own drinks down to the complex pool bar and they have a cash pool bar that was open during our stay as well. Went downtown to eat every evening. Endless selection of restaurants, bars and entertainment. Mega grocery store 15 min walk and 5 usd cab ride back. The beach was a short walk away. The beach was VERY busy and crowded during the holiday week, but we we enjoyed the experience. There are 2 beach clubs just outside the Villa with music and lounge chairs available for rent or those who buy food and drink, they were mostly full during our stay. I recommend getting early reservations during peak times. The condition of beach was great, short walk away, excellent condition, soft sand and no weeds. Recommend bringing a collapsible cooler down to the beach. Ice and beverages are available in convenience stores just out side the outside the Aldea Thai complex. Overall this was very good accommodations and an excellent location. We had a great vacation and I would recommend this villa to a friend. Thank You Lisie!
