Fabulous location

Hidden Elm is a beautiful, spacious house that perfectly accommodated our seven adults and one toddler. Walking distance to shopping, restaurants and nature. Easy access to Acadia and under 30 minutes to other scenic parts of the island. So many lovely features at the house, and a well-stocked kitchen made cooking fun. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Beautiful House in Great Location

House was perfect for a good sized group. Main bedroom is on the opposite side of the house from the other bedrooms, which is perfect if one couple goes to bed earlier than everyone else or has light sleepers. Kitchen was great and well stocked. Yard is beautiful. Porches are perfect for eating outside or just hanging out. Location is great. Right near the center of Southwest Harbor but still quiet when you're actually at the house. Farmers' Market and Craft Fair are less than a five minute walk away on weekends in summertime. Awesome place!

Lovely old house, not so quiet

We were initially very happy with our stay at Mike and Libby’s, until they had their fencing contractor come at 7 am and do extremely noisy work until 10:30. If you are looking for quiet, I would highly recommend contacting the host in advance. Also, there seems to be some kind of basketball camp adjacent to the property, so be prepared for the sound of kids and bouncing balls. It’s a charming old, tastefully decorated house, but in the heart of southwest harbor. Consider these factors if you’re looking for rest and relaxation. We probably wouldn’t have chosen it knowing about the noise level.

Perfect quietside stay!

Our family of 5 had a lovely stay at Hidden Elm! The property is lovely, was very clean, lots of nice amenities (cookware, soaps, dishwasher detergent, laundry soap, comfy beds, sheets, and towels, etc.). LOVED the location--we enjoyed walking into SW Harbor, and easy driving into Acadia, Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, etc. The primary bedroom is set apart from the other 3 bedrooms which worked for us, and our two older children stayed upstairs. The baby stayed in the sitting room near the primary bedroom. Libby was a wonderful host! The steps are steep and both bathrooms are on the main level, but it all worked out great for our group. Would definitely stay at this house again!!

Best ever!

This was the most well equipped vacation rental we've ever stayed at. We brought a cooking pot and spices from home as we have found in the past that everything was not provided. Not the case here. We could have saved the room. The home was beautiful, the master bedroom and bathroom luxurious, and the village quaint. I would recommend this home without reservation.

Maine Stay

Nice cottage hidden away close to town. That fact was quite nice - a short walk to town to the bakery and restaurants. It is on the quiet side of MDI. My favorite thing about the house was the shower in the main bedroom. Good hot water and great pressure! It was quite nice on the cold days. Despite being close to town, it was rather quiet at the house, comfortable living room in which to relax. The thing to consider about the house is that both bathrooms are on the same (main) level. This was a bit of a challenge in the night when nature called. The railing on the stairway is a bit awkward (low) especially for those who are tall and/or elderly using the upstairs bedrooms. We managed just fine, but we certainly did not run up and down the stairs. Other than that, the house worked well and we’d stay there again on our next trip.

Hidden Elm over Labor Day

location was clean and kitchen well supplied. property appeared as shown on photographs. master en suite bathroom was very nice. cool nights made property very comfortable. stairs to second floor are very steep, and three upstairs bedrooms had to use first floor shared bathroom. it did not prove to be much of a hassle for any of the young adults sleeping upstairs. property was set back off main street for seclusion. walking distance to most everything in town. highly suggest doing grocery shopping on mainland before crossing water in Trenton. grocery prices were absolutely outrageous. not too many restaurant choices in town or on the western side of the island in general. Bar Harbor was very crowded, although it made for a good time when it rained on Labor Day. no complaints at all about property or its management. would definitely stay here again.

Clean and comfortable

The house was very clean and comfortable. The checkin process was easy and efficient with a great bottle of wine to welcome us. The kitchen is well stocked for large family meals. The only downsize is not having a bathroom on the second floor. We were 2 families traveling together, a second on-suite bedroom/bathroom would have been great. However the 1 master suite is a great size and tucked away from the rest of the house.

Perfect!

The first time 7 of us were together for over a year, thanks to Covid. Our accommodation exceeded expectations. The home was spotless, well equipped, so comfortable. We felt so safe and welcome. Our hosts left a special touch and we were treated ( on the counter) we found a bottle of wine and flowers. The home had space for gathering and space for alone, downtime. A bonus was the lovely southwest village with charming shops, yummy bakery and icecream stores and enticing restaurants. It was so near to Acadia for our adventures. We loved Hidden Elm. It was -Just the best! Gerry

LOVED staying here !

The house is tucked back off the road, we were happy it wasn’t on the main road. The inside is perfectly maintained and beautiful.. VERY clean upon arrival. Spacious kitchen, well-stocked with cookware and a large fridge. An oversized island for the family to hang out while cooking. Had all the supplies for enjoying lobster on our last night. The master bedroom is secluded and private with a great bathroom .. amazing shower walk in with wonderful water pressure ! Beds were comfortable with very nice quality sheets and linens ! The living room was very comfortable, and nice to hang out in with everyone. It was about a 20 minute drive to get into Acadia National Park. We ended up going to Trenton Marketplace (IGA) which was 20 minutes away for groceries. Market in town didn’t have the greatest selection. Hannaford is also in Bar Harbor 20ish minutes away but we didn’t figure that out til the end of our trip. If you’re on the fence about booking this location.. do it ! You will not be disappointed !!!

Beautiful Southwest Harbor Home

This place was absolutely wonderful! The hospitality was spectacular—Libby was so great about responding quickly and answering all the questions that we had. The house is in a quiet neighborhood just right off the Main Street and is 10 minutes away from Bass Harbor Lighthouse. It had everything that we needed for the week to accommodate 6 people. Everything was clean, very tidy and decorated so well. It felt like a home away from home. Thank you guys for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. We had such a great time!

Southwest Harbor retreat

This property was very clean and comfortable, the downstairs bedroom And bathroom were great. The upstairs was comfortable, but the stairs are high and steep, not for those with knee issues or young children. They provided some toys which was nice. Overall This house was everything you could ask For.

September stay at Hidden Elm

This was a happy experience! The booking went smoothly and the property was everything we had hoped for and more. Lots of space to spread out, clean, quiet, lots of natural light, easy walk for coffee, sandwiches, harbor view. The only reason for 4 out of 5 stars on cleanliness was because the cleaning crew missed a couple of minor things. The overall condition of this rental was spotless. We would definitely book again!

We loved our stay in SW Harbour. The house was perfect. We were in walking distance to all stores in the village. The owners made sure to tell us that if we needed anything that they were there to help. The IGA was five minutes away by car. Great internet. We would stay here again. Totally enjoyable

Perfect Maine retreat

We had an exceptional stay at this home in SWH. It was even nicer in person despite the great photos. We struggle we finding homes in this area that feel like a get away vs staying in someone else's home. This house has character and charm but has been skillfully added on to and tastefully updated. The kitchen is amazing. Although we enjoyed many of the area restaurants (many within a short walk) we love to cook as well. The kitchen is well appointed with high end cookware, knives and appliances. Nice plates, glassware, etc--things we in the past have found lacking at other rentals. It's a large kitchen and it was perfect for an at home lobster fest we hosted with friends and family one evening. All the beds were very comfortable with new, high end linens. The master shower is amazing, great water pressure after a day of hiking! The location is wonderful; in town but the home is tucked away from the Main Street by the hidden driveway. Our older kids enjoyed walking to the ice cream shop, cafes and shops and we had no worries (ages 12/15). There are two decks, both quiet and private. We enjoyed coffee on the front porch in the Adirondack chairs almost every morning. There is a great supply of puzzles and games as well. It was early June when we stayed, so still cool in the area, and we needed to use the heat 1-2 nights. The layout of the home was ideal for us, with a private master wing that also included a sitting area, all separate from the living room and upstairs. Generous 'his & her' closets for settling in quickly. It was great having a full size washer and dryer as well. We can't wait to return. After 10+ years of vacationing seasonally, this is hands down our favorite home and location. You have easy access to all things on the quiet side (Thurston's Lobster, Wonderland, Ship's Harbor) and are 15 minutes from Bar Harbor and the major park points. The bike rental shop in SWH (highly recommend) is ideal, you can walk to get your bikes. We did this for a few days and pedaled around town. The community is very pedestrian friendly. Our hosts were available by text/phone if needed and were very responsive to a few simple questions I had. Thank you to our hosts for an amazing week at your home! Lovely Home Away from Home

This beautiful, well appointed home was the perfect spot to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday. While its' location right in town made walking to dinner easy, it is set back from the road for privacy. The kitchen is well stocked; we especially appreciated the ground coffee left for us. Numerous areas to sit and read or chat add to the homey feeling. Do keep in mind that the first floor bedroom has an en suite, while the three second floor bedrooms share a bathroom on the first floor. We would return here in a heartbeat!
