Das Black Dog Watch ist ein großes Apartment in einem neueren, von Eigentümern bewohnten Doppelhaus auf einem erhöhten Grundstück gegenüber dem Hafen. Es befindet sich in lokalem Besitz und wird von einer Familie von mehreren Generationen bewohnt. Es bietet einen herrlichen Blick auf den Southwest Harbor, die Küste von Manset und die Cranberry-Inseln. Stellen Sie Ihr Auto auf dem Grundstück ab und gehen Sie 5 Minuten zu Fuß in die Main Street, um alles zu erreichen, was Southwest Harbor zu bieten hat. Der Pier liegt direkt auf der anderen Straßenseite und 2 Restaurants befinden sich in unmittelbarer Nähe. Das Haus bietet WiFi, Kabel, Roku, DVD-Player mit mehreren Filmen / Shows und kann 8-10 Personen mit 2 Kingsize-Zimmern, 2 Zimmern mit einer Reihe von Zwillingen und einem optionalen Ausziehsofa schlafen. Great spot for family vacation

We stayed at Breakwater in October 2023 with two young families. The apartment is well stocked and worked well for two couples with three kids under 4. Luke was super accomodating and provided us with pack n plays and a high chair, and was also very responsive. Location is great - walk across the street to the harbor to check out boats and birds, or walk down to the village for breakfast or dinner. We loved our stay in Southwest Harbor and at Breakwater. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed for our Maine vacation.

Accommodations were great

The place was well stocked and had everything we needed. The location right in Southwest Harbor gave us a great view of the harbor and in close proximity to restaurants and the town. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are in close proximity where we spent several days. The owners were very responsive to our needs.

Multi-generation family vacation for 6

Nice place with a nice view. Two grandparents, three adults, and an infant. We didn’t even need to use one of the bedrooms. We were pleased with the arrangement of the bathroom and half bath both being accessed from the living room area and available without having to go through anyone’s bedroom. Nice location within easy walking distance of Southwest Harbor shops and restaurants. Short drive to hiking trails, museums, and Acadia National Park. Very nice hosts provided helpful tips for hikes, restaurants, and groceries.

Excellent stay and location

This was our first trip to Acadia and couldn’t have picked a better property. It was as described. We were very comfortable with how roomy the house was and ended each night on the deck with the fire-pit and great view of the dock across the way. The house was very clean and well-situated within short walking distance to the town’s shops and restaurants. Luke is always accessible and extremely helpful with any questions and recommendations. It was relaxing to be on the quieter side of the island, with plenty of hiking trails nearby, but also close enough with a short drive to the Bar Harbor area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and look forward to coming back. Highly recommend!

Perfect Getaway

Great choice

We're so glad we picked this as our home base for our time in the Acadia National Park area. The location is terrific: a lovely view of the harbor, and close to the park but without the crowds of Bar Harbor. Luke and Jackie have provided so many nice touches and extras, from high-quality cookware, kitchen tools and spices, etc., to laundry detergent and dryer sheets for the washer and dryer (a great convenience). We also appreciated how clean the home was, plus the excellent guide books about the area. Thanks for a wonderful visit, and we hope to return!

Great return to Black Dog Watch

We just wrapped up our second visit to this property, and it was even better than the first. The space has been rearranged and updated and was plenty for our group of 7 and a dog. Luke was amazingly helpful and communicative. We could walk to the store and shops, or take a quiet drive to Acadia. Can't recommend highly enough!

Highly recommended!

Luke and Jackie's rental is a beautiful place. We needed something a little bigger with at least four beds and this place fit the bill. Everyone was comfortable with a real bed. The apartment was outfitted with everything we would need - even coffee! The view was lovely and we were minutes from Acadia. The apartment is dog friendly too! We would definitely stay again.

Perfect Fall Getaway

This was the perfect house for our senior ladies reunion. The beds in all four rooms were comfortable. It was so nice to have a complete kitchen to prepare meals when we felt like it, yet close enough to walk to town if we chose to go out. The washer and dryer made packing light and so convenient. This ideal location made exploring Acadia National Park a breeze. Sunrise from the porch was a bonus looking out over the bay. Luke and Jackie were very helpful prior to our trip and kind while we stayed. I would highly recommend staying at this property.

Relaxing hideaway

Nestled above a small harbor in Maine is a lovely little home that overlooks the harbor. Down the way and around the corner, you can find the freshest lobsters in town. Our hosts were awesome at communicating with us and were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. We felt completely at home. The home was close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. In-town, great view, great home!

We loved this spacious apartment for our Acadia National Park vacation. The apartment itself is big, open, and has a deck with a beautiful view perfect for morning coffee or evening relaxing. It's a three minute easy walk into the village of Southwest Harbor. When the National Park buses are running there's a stop directly across the street. Oh and so clean - our dog rolled tennis balls under every piece of furniture and I can tell you - there is not a speck of dust to be found!

Perfect balance of comfort and convenience

This was our fourth stay in Southwest Harbor, and quickly became our favorite. The accommodations were clean and comfortable, with a great layout that gave the three generations of our family ample space without feeling disconnected. The location was fantastic - rentals where you can enjoy a quiet water view with your morning coffee while also being just a short walk into town are not easy to find, and this one was both and dog-friendly, too. Luke and Jackie were great hosts, letting us know they were around if we needed anything. We’re particularly grateful for their cooperation and excellent communication as we worked together to reschedule this trip from summer 2020. We had a wonderful experience and hope to return soon.

Great stay in Southwest Harbor

This was a great place for our two families to stay. 4 adults and 4 teenagers. Good sleeping arrangements. Good amount of space. The deck was nice to hang out in while we grilled or just relaxed. Good view of harbor. We would recommend some towels for the beach and a few more towels. Having washer and dryer helped. We washed towels daily!! Fully stocked kitchen allowed to cook many meals!! Luke was very quick to respond and very friendly and knowledgeable about the island!! Sea Wall was a short drive, lighthouse and hikes all around this location!! Great place to have a home base for exploring the island. Bar Harbor was only 30 minutes away!! Ask Luke for recommendations on restaurants before your stay!! It will save you some money and belly aches😁

Very relaxing

Luke was a wonderful property manager. If there was any problem or question, he answers on the first ring and handles everything as quick as possible. Luke's place is very comfortable and has everything you could want. The view is great and you can walk to restaurants and shops. They call the Southwest Harbor the quiet side of the island, and it was easy to see why. It is much more family oriented than the Bar Harbor side. After going to the Bar Harbor side once, we limited a lot of our time to the quiet side. There is much to see and do on both sides. Beautiful scenery, even though it was foggy several days.

Great home base to explore Acadia!

My husband and I recently stayed at Black Dog Watch for a few days while exploring Acadia National Park. It was a great home base for exploring all of the main attractions in Acadia nothing was much more than a 30 minute drive. The property is exactly like the pictures on VRBO. Well equipped if you want to eat in/ cook- it was a great plus to have a washer and dryer as well. Very cozy and comfortable accommodations. We were over in Bar Harbor one day and it was ridiculously crowded and no availability for dinner at restaurants (all the waits were an hour plus). It was so much nicer to stay in Southwest Harbor- glad we picked it over Bar Harbor! Luke is very responsive to any questions you have and can give great recommendations for dining, hiking, ect. I am so glad we picked Black Dog Watch for our stay! I would definitely stay there again.

Luke and Jackie met in Bar Harbor in March of 2009 and got married in July of 2013. Luke had just got home from 3 months at sea and was going out with some friends for a drink. Jackie saw the first new man she had seen all winter and claimed him immediately. You know.... storybook love story at a pub on a Maine island in winter!

Luke and his family have been on MDI and have fished the waters for generations. Luke was a Merchant Marine Engineer for several years sailing large ships all over the world until he met Jackie and came home from sea. He is now an engineer at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor and helps run the utility plant there.

Jackie is originally from Downeast Maine but has been in the MDI area for over 20 years. She has worked in several restaurants in the area and can give you excellent suggestions for varying types of cuisine and wine. She is now a dental hygentist and practices in Town Hill/Bar Harbor.

Luke and Jackie love to hike all over MDI with their black lab, Lucy and son Cole. They will be happy to give advise of what to do while you're here and where to go.

Luke and Jackie have been looking to move back onto MDI for 2 years and finally found this amazing property which they both (miraculously) liked! All the amenities of living in town while having an amazing view of Southwest Harbor and shorter commutes to work is all it took for them to make the easy decision to buy this house. Since it was just the 2 of us originally, we decided to share the property with all the visitors that enjoy their Island as much as they do.

The sunrise over Islesford and Great Cranberry Island from bedroom #4 (or the deck) is amazing! If you're not a morning person, you can at least set your alarm, open the shades, enjoy the view, and go back to bed!

The 52 ft deck with 2 entrances to the apartment is by far the spot where most folks spend their time. 1/2 of the deck is shaded by a 2nd story deck above, and 1/2 is open and sunny with a full southern exposure, all while overlooking Southwest Harbor. Several cedar chairs are provided for lounging along with a cedar picnic table and Weber grill.

We have all the advantages of all the other Main street property with a sidewalk going right into town so you can park you car and walk to the market, pub, restaurant, or playground. However, we are a B lot so we have buffer from the road to dampen any traffic noise and not worrying about the kids or the dog being too close to the road. Being on the side of a hill we still have a great view without our front neighbors obstructing the Harbor.
