Our family of 4 stayed in Grand Luxxe Tower 3 on the 4th floor for a week in late March 2016. We had a 2 BR villa unit, which was absolutely beautiful, enormous, very modern, and comfortable in every way for us. It had 3 bathrooms, including 2 huge master baths with great amenities, and a half bath. The unit has a very large living room/dining combo with plenty of furniture/seating, large dining room table, nice flat screen tv, and a perfectly adequate kitchen (although note, there is no oven for anyone that needs it - but there is a electric rangetop, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker & blender). The bedrooms are huge & very nice. In the "villa" units, there's also an entirely separate den that is another living room space with large couch, another flatscreen tv, & a mini kitchen area w/ mini fridge, microwave, etc. We barely used that room but it would be nice for a group of 6 or more, or 2 families. Finally, the unit had a HUGE balcony w/ nice wood planks, a shallow plunge pool, & a table + chairs for eating & other nice furniture. We did not have a river view, & faced into the resort including some construction beneath us. However, we did still have a partial ocean view (from a distance) & the view was just fine (you couldn't see the construction unless you leaned over & looked).
The amenities at the Grand Luxxe are very nice. There's free coffee every AM on each floor of the building, just a walk down the hall. There is self-serve laundry service available on each floor for a modest fee (under $5 w/ soap). The gym in Luxxe Tower 2 is incredible - very modern, large and tons of equipment, plus spinning studio, huge weight room, yoga studio. Spa is beautiful too.
This was our 3rd year at this Vidanta resort (the first 2 spent at the Grand Bliss - very nice as well, if not one step below in luxury from the Grand Luxxe). We have always had a fantastic time & love the many pools (over 20), most of the restaurants, beach/ocean, & other features. However, there's no question the "compound" has gotten HUGE, somewhat unwieldy to get around (although there are shuttles constantly running but point is you can't just walk everywhere easily), & the new access road into & out of the resort is very long & annoying to deal with. Cabs to local restaurants are now 3x as expensive & 3x as long due to the road & forcing out of way routes. We avoided it by walking on beach & cutting thru Sea Garden to get closer to Nuevo restaurants by cab or walking.
