We were beyond thrilled with this charming apartment in Luray, which was less than 10 minutes from downtown Luray shops and restaurants (we liked Artisans, Uncle Buck's, and Gathering Grounds), the caverns, and a wedding we attended at gorgeous Khimaira Farm. It was much larger than the photos suggest. I'd guess it's somewhere between 700-800 sq ft. We had plenty of room to spread out with our toddler and pre-schooler. Everything was tidy, extremely clean, and well-kept. The owner has quite a flair for decorating. I spent at least an hour admiring each of the many interesting prints, photos, embroideries, etc. The apartment is tastefully furnished with an assortment of new and well-taken care of vintage and antique pieces. She's even outfitted the light fixtures with Edison bulbs. It truly looked like a Country Living magazine home. The kitchen was well-equipped, with quality, functioning appliances to include a glass-top range, microwave, mixer, large fridge/freezer with ice maker, washer/dryer, iron and ironing board, dishes, pans, colander, and flatware. The property itself is breathtaking. The views from all the windows are amazing. You can watch the sun rise over the ridge from the comfortable, clean chairs on the deck, or watch the sun set over the surrounding picturesque farms from the living room windows. My son enjoyed watching hay making from his bedroom window, visiting Country the horse, petting Oliver the dog, visiting the pond, and waving to the cattle in the creek each time we left the farm. The owner has also planted flowers quite a few flowers and mulched around the apartment. Our host Vanessa was quite friendly and truly goes out of her way to make guests feel welcome; providing lovely Yardley soap, gourmet muffins and cookies, an engaging local newspaper, and even helping us lug all our heavy suitcases up to the loft. Two things to be aware of-if you need entertainment for the evenings, bring books, games, or DVDs, as there are limited television channels. We were very glad to have brought a small stash for the children. Also, our cell reception was spotty in Luray (normal for rural and mountainous areas), so have a contingency communication plan. These two items in no way detracted from our stay; just be aware and prepare. I truly can't rave enough about this wonderful property!
