I wish I would have known.
The house was great, the location was perfect, the pool was exactly what we wanted. The issue I had was that when we "checked in" we were actually shown the extra propane tank in the garage, and what the garage door opener looked like, but we couldn't find it. We brought our luggage in and started our vacation. We brought 4 of our own bikes, our own fishing gear, and our own diving gear, which I obviously wouldn't want to leave in/on my truck for the 8 days we were there. The next morning we were going to meet friends on Sanibel Island for a bike ride, I never found the garage door opener so I left the garage door open for a quick trip to get a bike part and beverages. I returned after 15 minutes to find the garage door closed, I went into the house to go back into the garage to find the door locked from the inside. I at first thought one of my boys could have accidently closed it but they were in the pool and my wife was still packing lunches. I called both of the property managers and didn't hear anything. I called happy cape, and didn't hear anything. after 3 hours and calling every number I could find I was called back from a number in Germany and told I wasn't supposed to have access to the garage! After putting thousands of dollars of my personal belongings in there! After a quick discussion was told someone would be sent to let me access the garage to remove my items. I asked where I should put all of my stuff and was told it wasn't her problem! When help finally arrived he didn't have the key and ended up breaking the doorknob off and saying he'd be back to replace it (he didn't come back so there was a nice doorknob hole in the door for the week letting a slight gas smell in the house) The part that angered me the most was the fact that my family was in the house when somebody showed up and closed the door without saying anything. I missed an entire day trying to resolve this for no reason. The owner does have many personal belongings in the garage, it is his home after all. I have been doing vrbo since long before it was a thing and have heard many stories of people disrespecting private property but I was never given any indication we were not allowed access to the garage and then the way we were treated afterward was extremely rude. The Koi pond is super cool and beautiful But I'm 6'1 220lbs and taking our luggage out that way would have not been practical.
