Das Coast of Maine House ist ein wunderschönes und historisches Herrenhaus mit Schiffskapitänen aus dem Jahr 1856 und 11 Schlafzimmern / 27 Betten, das vollständig restauriert wurde am Wasser Ziele. Wir haben einen eingebauten Pool, einen Speisesaal für bis zu 24 Personen und einen Essbereich im Freien für bis zu 32 Personen. Wir sind ideal für Familientreffen, Hochzeitsfeiern usw. geeignet. Wir sind ein echtes Herrenhaus mit 11 Fuß hohen Decken im ersten Stock, 9 Fuß hohen Decken im zweiten und dritten Stock und vielen Kaminen in den Schlafzimmern. Die dritte Etage hat Kathedralendecken und Oberlichter und das Anwesen hat eine zentrale Klimaanlage und jedes Schlafzimmer hat neue Deckenventilatoren. Wir sind umgeben von drei hübschen Kaffeehäusern, vier Kraftbrauereien, sieben Kirchen, vier Restaurants, der Eisdiele Saco Scoops und zwei Yogastudios. Wir haben einen Fahrradschuppen mit Strandfahrrädern für Sie. Wir begrüßen Gruppen, die ein Mietobjekt so behandeln, als wäre es ein eigenes.

Immaculate property with interesting decor

When we booked this property, we weren't quite sure what to make of it. However, it exceeded our expectations in nearly every way. It includes beautifully appointed bedrooms and interesting decor throughout, including dozens of antique chests and unique art and wall hangings. The property was extremely clean and well taken care of and the owner was very responsive and friendly. The great room was a perfect place to gather our large group for games and conversation while the kitchen was well stocked with all the dishes and utensils one would need. Our group had a great time and loved the property. The only surprise was that one of the bedrooms is seasonal and not available during the winter months. Other than that, we had a great time and would highly recommend this property to others.

Saco Maine Retreat

Loved our stay at the Saco Maine house. It was a great property for an extended family vacation. The pool was fantastic. House is very large and supported 21 of us very nicely. Gerry was great. Had a fantastic week.

Location Location Location

So much room in this well appointed former Captains home! Our very large party of friends felt so at home in this beautiful space. This in town location was so convenient to everything thing we wanted to do in Saco and nearby Kennebunkport. The first-class restaurants and shopping were everything we hoped for . Our host Gerald was responsive, friendly and accommodating. The coast of Maine was everything we hoped for and more. Highly recommend !

Great ship captain's mansion for large groups

This beautifully appointed historical brick mansion has about 15 - 18 rooms over 3 floors, with tall ceilings and fireplaces. It is ideally located near the beaches and a short drive from both Portland and Kennebunkport. The kitchen dining room and the great room are all well suited for a larger group, like ours. The bedrooms have lovely bedding and the bathrooms are large, clean and well decorated. Plenty of parking in Stowes historic district. We walked to some restaurants, breweries, and to an ice cream shop. We would defintely stay here again.

Annual Vacation with extended family

Thank you for a wonderful stay at your beautiful Inn. Interesting building with on point amenities. Large living room area for gathering indoors. The bedrooms are gorgeous and very comfortable. A lovely front porch. Pool is clean and ready for a refreshing swim! My daughter Loved sleeping in the cabana. There are a number of restaurants and shops within walking distance in this lovely little town. Sand Beach within 10 minutes. Portland is a skip & a jump and is ready for vacationer's! Don't overlook this gem.

We had a special family reunion for my moms 87th birthday. We had a fabulous time and loved the communication with Gerry. He was very gracious, the pool was nice and well used by our family. He supplied all the necessities and beach chairs and coolers. Having Hercules, the horse, was fun for the kids. The portable AC units were good, but the central AC didn’t cool the main part of the house real well. If I came back to Saco, which I think was a great place for our situation, I would stay in Gerry’s house. The house was huge and had many beds. He said there was a lobster pot but we wanted a big one and couldn’t find one in the house. Overall, it was great!

Great Location

This house has a great location. It’s close to breweries, coffee shops and about 10 minutes from the public beach. The house is very big and accommodated our large group well. It should be noted however, that the horse lives in the driveway next to the house. I know it states on the website that there is a horse – but it’s proximity to the house that you’re renting should be noted in case there are issues with people/animals that don’t like horses. The horses hay and the dogs food are stored on the shared porch for the house. The bathroom stalls and vents need a good deep cleaning. And we had to clean out the microwave. Other than that the house was fine.

Celebration of life

Well where do I start? So much to say. This is a sprawling house suited for large gatherings such as ours. We had 28 family members and adequately found space in the number of bedrooms on 3 floors. We also utilized the 2 bedrooms & bathroom available in the adjoining carriage house. There is one bedroom & bathroom on the first floor that sits next to the kitchen. If you have a large group that is the only first floor bathroom, and you must go through the bedroom to use it. Keep this in mind if you have a group where someone uses this and goes to bed early. The kitchen is relatively small for the size of the house, but well appointed with everything we needed. We enjoyed walking to the ice cream shop, coffee, shops nearby. Groceries are close by. It’s a short 9-10minute drive to the beach, and we spent quite a bit of time at Ocean Park, eating fabulous lobster rolls, waking the rocks and tide pools at the East Audobon Sanctuary. It was beautiful! There is a gorgeous fresian horse (the owners) in the driveway paddock (no joke) that the kids enjoyed giving carrots, apples, and petting each day he was there. It does smell a little ‘farm like’ which didn’t seem to be a problem for the handful of dairy farmers in our group, and was easily overlooked by the excitement of having such a neat horse close by. Setting proper expectations is key to enjoying the space. It’s perfect for large groups, layed back mornings on the porch or by the backyard pool with kids, that don’t expect the 5 star housekeeping of a resort - which worked perfectly for our group.

Annual Family Vacation

I realize that this is an older home and all in all, our visit to the area was fine. However, the house needs updating, a lot of it. The owner mentioned that there was central A/C but that it did not work. That was the main system on the first floor and it worked ok. All the bedrooms had window or free standing units. Couple of connection problems with these but ultimately worked out OK. It also needs a thorough cleaning. There was dust and debris in a lot of places. I am not sure why it was necessary to have all the lamps unplugged but perhaps there was a reason. It was frustrating and only highlighted the need for cleaning as you worked to plug in the lamps. When we arrived, the pool was green. The owner was good to his word that the pool man would work on it and that it would be clean the next day (it was). The pool area could use a power wash. The kitchen was adequately supplied and, overall, there was plenty of room. There were just a number of things that did not make sense. I mentioned the lamps. We also could not understand why the king beds did not have king foundations. The ad mentioned the horse the owner maintains on the property. The horse is literally in the driveway. He is a beautiful horse and was great with my grandchildren but the proximity was such that there was a "farm" smell. All that being said, the owner was very responsive, check-in was a breeze, and area was nice. The kids enjoyed the library and the playgrounds (all close by).

Family makes it better

We could not have been more excited to find a home that could accommodate our very large family reunion and while the pictures made it look larger than it was we thought some things should be known about this property. - it may be stated that there is a horse on the property but it does not state that there will be hay and horse manure in your common space, such as the deck and the driveway where children are playing - you are supposed to clean and leave the house as you found it but we found it very dusty, dirty, caked on food on pots, mouse droppings under the sink, piles of dirt behind doors in the bedrooms, dirt and a stiletto under one of the beds - there is mold all over the shower curtain in the bathroom on the second flower with yellow tiles. - there are also large pieces of wood on the porch. One fell over luckily no one was on the porch at the time but it is not safe. Maybe if there is still construction needed to be done the owner should wait for it to be completed all the wood and scrape to be taken away to insure safety of the property. - while there are spots on the property the "30 spots" on school street are not reserved spots it's just street parking so I would image on busy summer days those spots may be hard to come by. - the pool had not been cleaned or setup for our arrival on Thursday. The very nice pool man come Friday evening to clean, shock and place the safety railings in. This meant no swimming for another 24 hrs to allow the chemicals to do there job.

Great space!

Convenient location, and great space for a large group (11 adults and 5 kids) for a weekend. Every couple/family was able to have their own room, with plenty of beds to spare, which was so helpful (and hard to find with other places). It was easy for us all to gather in the kitchen/dining room areas or the large living room. Gerry was very friendly and helpful, and the check in process was so easy. Highly recommend staying here, especially with a big group. Plus, we got to meet Hercules the horse, which was an added bonus!

Great spot for large groups!

We had a great stay! The property offers plenty of sleeping and common space for large groups. We had 24 adults who were all very comfortable. The kitchen had all the things we needed to cook the food we brought. I could also see how this could be a great spot for multiple families to gather. Gerry is very nice and friendly, and was easy to contact. Would recommend!

Good for Large Groups and Dogs

This property has lots of space, our group of 15 people and 4 dogs had a great stay! There were enough pots and pans in the kitchen to cook for a large group and seating both inside and outside. We appreciated the large living room, enough space for us all to gather separately or together. The area is lovely to walk around (so many restaurants!) and it is a short drive to Ferry Beach where the dogs could run around (off-leash during the off-season!). Gary was very responsive. The house is an older house, some doors don't fully close and the walls are a little thin, but overall it was a great stay. And having two refrigerators was great!

Great property for large and discriminating groups

The Coast of Maine House was a beautiful historic property ideally suited for our large group of 22 adults and children. The rooms were beautifully decorated, very spacious and with all the historic charm one could ever hope for. The kitchen has all new stainless steel appliances and pots and pans. The great room with the 11 foot high ceilings could easily accommodate our entire group. I would highly recommend this property to others and we plan on returning next year! Fantastic place to stay!

Good with a few bumps

Our overall impression was good, however, following are the things we were not pleased with: - check in time was rather late (4:00) you lose a whole day as check the following Saturday is 9:30 am -The house accommodates up to 28 people but the owner lives there and takes up at least 5 parking spots on site. Leaving only 4 spots for paying guest. -The owner has a horse on property ( which we loved ) but should be part of the property description as the smell of hay and horse may bother guests. -Upon arrival there was one cleaning person for the entire house (which is why checkin is so late). Our recommendation is the owner higher a larger staff of cleaning people as the house was not that clean - A number of bathrooms had mold in the showers and drains did not flow well. - refrigerator was dirty around the inside edges, the ovens need a good clean as well. Otherwise the kitchen was well appointed (minus the dull knives) All in all it was great location, near many restaurants, food stores and ice cream shops🙂. Just needs a little more care in presentation and fare warning of the horse (Hercules, Hercules!)

The Coast of Maine house is centrally located to beaches and towns you may like to visit. The house is historic from the 1800’s, so there are some old house characteristics. There is no living room on the main floor since there is a yoga studio-the upper floor living area was warm, so we did not fully utilize it during the high temperature week we visited. There were a few bikes in the shed available to use, and we used them to go on the nearby Eastern bike trail, which was nice. The house is large with many rooms-some central ac, but mostly window/mobile units in bedrooms upstairs. We did not use two bedrooms since one did not have an ac unit (we did not consider the ac unit in the connecting room could cool both), and we were told by Gerry, the owner, that the circuit being shared by two other bedrooms could only handle one ac unit at a time (leaving one of the rooms very hot/unusable). The week we stayed was very warm-if the weather is cooler, this might not be a problem for others. It should also be noted that the carriage house bedrooms referenced in the listing are not available until 2020–the owner lives in that part of the property at the moment. Gerry popped in on occasion to get stuff out of the house/took swims. Gerry should consider providing more privacy during future rentals. Gerry treated the pool after the previous renters left, so the pool clarity was improved by the day after we arrived; we vacuumed the pool ourselves since it was needed and since it was unclear when the pool company would be at the house for pool maintenance. Finally—I would recommend that the refrigerators/freezers should be cleaned out after previous guests stay-I understand that rentals sometimes leave a few condiments, but this was not a normal amount of leftovers (some expired) in the refrigerator/freezer. Gerry did give us some good tips on local places to visit, which we appreciated and checked out.

SPECTACULAR Home and Area

My immediate family of 4 from California took a trip to the beautiful coast of Maine this past August 2018, and we met up with 14 other family members living in Massachusetts as we were celebrating my fathers 90th birthday and wanted to get everyone together in one location. We chose the Coast of Maine house not only because of its great location near lots of beaches and lighthouses, but we loved the fact that it was a historic ship captains mainsion!! It’s beautiful, with tall ceilings, large bedrooms, expensive and grand cherry furniture, new bedding, ceiling fans and air conditioning, which made the house always comfortable. My wife loved the new kitchen appliances as she is a certified chef, and the dining room seating over 20 accomadated us all nicely. The kids loved the pool. Overall it was a perfect place for our large familt to stay, and we will definitely head back this summer.

The coast of main house

The big group I travelled with to the Coast of Main house felt really comfortable in the large house. Everyone had a very large bedroom with plenty of sheets and blankets and towels for showering. There were lots of windows and natural sunlight. The bedding was new and clean as were all the bedrooms. The kitchen was also very big in size with plenty of space for seating in the dining room. There was a pool in the backyard that we unfortunely couldn’t use because it was winter. Looking forward to swimming in the pool next time we are here in the summer.

Unique and centrally located mansion in Maine

I have had the pleasure of staying once with some friends and once with my family at the coast of Maine house. Both experiences met all of our needs and provided special memories for the groups with whom I traveled. The home is comfortable and has tons of spaces to explore and enjoy. It is also well appointed with beach towels, comfortable bed linens, stocked kitchen, art, books, swimming pool and even yoga mats and supplies. The location is extremely convenient - downtown has coffee, restaurants (we like “run of the mill” only a few minutes from the house) and breweries, and Saco itself is close to multiple beaches, scenic lookouts/lighthouses and biking/hiking paths. I would recommend to anyone who has a large party or just loves a unique experience and wants to break out of the typical rental property. We certainly hope to return!
