The listing for the house can't capture the aura of the Homosassa experience. We were probably there at an ideal time of year so temperatures were moderate with some chills and some heat during our five weeks. The house was clean and well outfitted. We used the kayaks about every other day, even taking one to the Gulf and to Kings Bay Park to paddle over to the Seven Sisters Springs where hundreds of manatees were wintering. But there were also manatees on the Homosassa, as well as dolphin, Osprey, tons of Pelicans, Ibises, Herons, Egrets, vultures and others we didn't identify. Gators were just a hike away on the seven mile loop in Crystal River Reserve State Park.
David, the owner, was quickly responsive when we had problems. The first was a slowed kitchen drain; there the next day. And when we said the bathroom sink had a slow drip, which didn't bother us, but we hate to waste, he was there in a few days to repair. Really nice guy.
Our favorite restaurant was Wallace's at the Greenhouse, which I don't believe is listed in the Welcome book.
For those that recycle, there is no pickup with the garbage. We collected ours, first with intent to bring home. But the Central Landfill is about 10 miles away in Lecanto and quick phone call confirmed we can bring it there for free. Just drive in, announce Single Stream Recycling" and make a left and a left and you're out of there.
I can't speak for families or groups of friends, but after 5 weeks we told David we didn't want to give his house back. That should say enough.
