Upon arrival we were super excited and immediately charmed! The cabin was cute, location was great, we were looking forward to a nice, relaxing week. Also upon arrival, but not prior to packing up our family of 5 and driving for 4 hours, we received a note from the owners apologizing for the "dampness" inside the cabin with a brief explanation of how wet it's been. The note also indicated that this isn't normal for July. We were advised to run the dehumidifier and the note indicated the fans, including a large, loud box fan, would really help. I spoke to the owner briefly by telephone that day as well, and it seemed like it wasn't going to be too big of a deal. Also on the phone, he let me know how awful the swimmers itch was currently in the lake. Well, we're here now, so we'll do what we need to preventatively with both the "dampness" issue and the swimmers itch. As the week went on, it was obvious that the floors of the cabin weren't simply "sweating" from humidity or "damp", rather, there is clearly a water issue with seepage. There were puddles in the dining area, kitchen, bathroom, and back bedroom. No amount of running the dehumidifier or box fan and ceiling fans would curb this issue. Shoes had to be worn inside the cabin at all times. Not to mention emptying the dehumidifier several times a day and the less than relaxing constant drone of the fan. Any sense of "carefree vacation" went out the window. It was dirty, it was a safety issue with slipping and electrical cords in puddles near so much water, it was not what we anticipated, it was not what was presented to us, it was not what we paid for and brought our children to experience. We left a day early, two of my children with serious cases of swimmers itch that no amount of toweling off, rinsing or showering immediately after getting out of the water could curb, after realizing that this was not acceptable and we needed to pack it in. I let the owner know we left, to which his response was "so sorry to hear this, my family didn't have this problem last week...looking into AC, difficult without duct work". We felt that was a lax response which addressed none of our issue. Additionally, we don't feel that this property was honestly represented. After renting through VRBO for years at a similar price point, this is the first and only time we have had a bad experience. Sadly, we cannot recommend this property for renting.
