Great stay with amazing view

We had 3 nights stay and it was well worth it. The property is by the lake and kids had a lot of fun! I would suggest to provide water activities like Kayak or paddle board and it will be perfect vacation for the whole family.

What a view!

We're part of a group of several families that spends a weekend in Traverse City every January. We've never stayed at the same place twice (though that may change in 2025 after our experience here). The main things we look for when we book a VRBO are cleanliness, convenient location, a kitchen where we can prepare big meals for a lot of people, lots of room to sleep and spread out, and a few "extras" that make the stay special. This place checked all the boxes, with the "extra" being the spectacular view of the bay right outside the back windows. The kitchen was also the best-stocked kitchen we've had in a while. I had to problem finding the dishes and tools I needed to cook a big breakfast for nine people every morning. The only two knocks we have on the property is that the back bedroom (the one that has the best view of the lake) also does not have heat. The property manager was kind enough to bring an extra space heater for the room. Also, we could not turn on the gas fireplace (even though the welcome manual said we could and told us how). When the property manager was kind to bring the extra space heater (on a Saturday), he or she could not figure out how to light the fireplace, so we missed out on that little "extra" we were looking forward to enjoying.

Location and views!

The location and views of this property are heard to beat! Being on the water and close to downtown while having so many beds/bedrooms and bathrooms made this a perfect spot for our ladies weekend. It is a great cottage and I can only imagine how great this property would be in the summer. Be sure to read all of the information on what is and what is not included so that you can bring what you need. Overall, this was a great winter stay!

Reviewer Comments: an inhabitable rental property that has mastered the art of deceiving visitors out of thousands of dollars. not well cared for in the least - didnt look like anyone had been there in months. trash and dirty laundry littered the overgrown yard. the bugs inside the house outnumbered the women 100:1, and that’s not including the ones you had to battle to get inside. when concerns were brought, minimal effort was put in to improving the stay. after the stay, when the concerns were brought again, no one cared to even respond. the type of house you get lice or bed bugs in.

Reviewer Comments: I have rented this property several times over the past five years. I rented it the first year that it was available and it needed ALOT of work, we gave it a chance the next year and there was some improvement. We rented a different property last year and came back to this one this year. It has remained the same with no improvements. I realize this is a beach cottage type rental. It is on the water there will be spiders, bugs, sand is to be expected. The main issue is the property itself. There has been a dock that has been dismantled on top of a sand hill for the past 4 years, that completely blacks, the view of the bay when sitting by the fire. Overgrown trees, cobwebs, if there was just a minimal amount of upkeep, and a small investment back into the landscaping, basically a day of cleaning and this property would look much more appealing. (My family pitched in when we checked in and cleaned up the beach and some of the old dead bushes, which is not something we should do on vacation paying a substantial amount of money to stay there.) The pull out beds are extremely old and the mattresses are extremely uncomfortable. No one could sleep there so that was two beds that we could not utilize. The sunroom gets very warm because of the skylight so didn’t use that bedroom the way we had planned.

Beautiful Location but Needs Some Maintenance

Reviewer Comments: When arriving to the property we were a little taken aback as the outside of the house seemed more dated and worn than we had seen in pictures. The house could use minor outside repairs and a cost of paint (exposed wood in some areas of the siding and deck). Deck off the master bedroom in the rear of the house is extremely chipped and in major need of sanding/repainting.The interior of the house is nicely decorated and there is lots of room. Air conditioning needed repair the first day of our stay. HVAC company who came told us this was not their first visit to the house, and that the AC unit needed more freon. Once the freon was recharged the unit worked and kept us comfortable; however, would recommend checking on repair status if you are booking in the future.Minor repairs are also needed in the house. The master bathroom toilet seat fell completely off the toilet during out stay. We needed to screw the master bathroom mirror back to the wall to keep it from falling off. Utility cover plate in the living room was cracked and wires exposed. We elected to repair this ourselves so that our young children did not touch the wires.Some windows in living room and covered porch sleeping area do not work properly and pop off the track when opening/closing making their function difficult.Covered sleeping porch gets a beautiful breeze but can get very warm on hot days as the AC does little to cool off this room.Kitchen appliances are nice, but cutlery is dull and falling part (bent, screws missing from knives).Location is WONDERFUL being just west of the state park campground, and lots of privacy. Beach area is very sandy and easy to swim.Overall the property has a lot of potential. A little bit more attention to some small items could greatly increase comfort and repeat bookings.

The property location is nice -right off of main road and view of and access to the water. But the house could use a deep cleaning, including organizing and cleaning the kitchen drawers and cabinets. The all weather carpet on the front porch needs to be replaced as well. The property was not worth the price, especially after having to pay booking fees to both VRBO and Up North rentals.

Mixed Feelings

The view is beautiful. The beds are comfortable. I don't think that the windows have been washed in over a year. The house sleeps 11 but there are only six places to sit in the living room. We found at least 7 spiders/bugs in the house. The shower in the bathroom in the laundry room is tiny and outdated. I called a week before we arrived and asked that they make sure that the grates on the grill were clean. Not only were they dirty but the grill was laden with spider webs. I called the day we arrived, Friday to report the dirty grill grates. The following Wednesday, since no one called me back I called them. I received an apology and was told that someone would be sent to clean it. I said not to bother as we cleaned it before and after we used it. We paid A LOT of money for this rental. I've stayed in less expensive rentals that were nicer and had no problems with the management company.

The rental agency tried a few times to help but the bedding was dirty the sewage back up ruined our stay and we didn’t even get offer a discount on this very pricey rental I would use the agency again but I would never stay at this location
