Overpriced and underwhelming
We have rented through VRBO many times and had wonderful experiences.
This was not one of them.
I placed a deposit on this rental last August (for a Feb 2022 rental) while we conferred with another couple to share it. When that didn’t work out, I attempted to cancel 48 hrs later. From the management company I received an email which stated “no refunds” - period. We decided, with no other recourse, that we had to make the best of it. Though the original listing did not explicitly state it, we also later became aware that there were two homes on this property sharing the pool.
Upon arrival, the property was not an “estate” but a run down and unkempt yard littered with dead leaves and half-dead plants where freeway sounds could be heard. The property is located way outside the Naples area. Construction materials were piled by the front door.
The house is quite small with three bedrooms and a combined kitchen/living area that can hold four people. There is a single sofa and nowhere else to sit. There was a pile of three TV remotes (with no instructions) in the living room. After emailing the management company for help, I was informed that “the TVs we’re working yesterday” which really didn’t address my question. No cable either “we didn’t advertise cable” so we were told to use downloaded streaming channel. We never got the TV working. Where was the washer and dryer? “We didn’t advertise a washer and dryer.” And so it went.
The house is a tiny, claustrophobic white box. Little sunlight filtered through the windows covered with tiny blinds - not that there was anything outside to see. Bottom line - for what we paid for this tiny, poorly equipped house, we were not willing to stay there for two weeks. We left after two nights. From the beginning, the management company was intransigent and very unaccommodating. Never once did they ask, what can we do to make your stay better. They had our money and we were out of luck. After we left, we received no communication from the management company, illustrating their we-don’t-care-about-you attitude. Read all listing fine print very carefully before you book!
