We arrived in the evening, first problem we encountered was that the bedding was not clean, some was soiled with body fluids, so we slept on towels most of which were still damp with our coats over us. In the morning we discovered that the pool & lanai were in poor shape, lots of what looked like mold, mildew or algae, the pool was very stained, not circulating and therefore not very clean with the surface crumbling in places. The ladder was missing 2 out of 3 rungs. No safety throw ring in sight, broken loose tiles around the pool. One of the loungers was broken & unusable, the outdoor soft furniture was ripped & covered in black mildew stains, I would not let my dog sit on it, let alone paying guests. The two outdoor ceiling fans were covered in dirt & looked moldy with multiple missing or dead light bulbs in, in addition the outdoor lamp had no bulb in.
The dock & patio are also in poor shape, loose, rotten dock posts, rotten, moldy, splintering dock boards, not somewhere you would want to sit out on. The mats in the lanai had black stuff growing on them, pretty disgusting for the amount we paid.
Roelens Vacation Rentals send a rep around for a meet & greet around 11 AM, they took notes of all the issues & to their credit did get the lanai pressure washed that day, removed broken lounger, the cleaners came back in and did a better job, ceiling fans cleaned, replaced mats, installed light bulbs & most of all brought all new bedding, comforters & towels.
Because the lanai had not been cleaned like this for some time, a lot of dirt & debris ended up in the pool, unfortunately the filter must have been clogged as it was not circulating & the dirt/debris was not removed until Thursday, meaning we did not feel comfortable using the pool with black pieces of crud (mold/mildew/algae?) floating around in it. Even after the pool company came with a vac & cleaned the filter, the pool does not circulate very efficiently, it really needs emptying, resurfacing and the whole filter, pump, cleaning system refurbishing.
A few other minor issues are the grass was not cut, broken tile on the table, glass tables with loose supports that cause them to collapse if you lean against them & an orange growth inside the wardrobe doors.
We asked Roelens for some reimbursement of what we considered was not good value for money, because we were very unhappy with all the above issues, however they refused to give us any refund as they said they resolved all our issues.
