We're new to VRBO, but we've been welcoming guests to our property since 2001 many of whom have become lifelong friends. When we bought this old farm with its original 18th-century barn, we dreamed of creating a place where people could gather, reconnect with nature, and truly relax. Over time, we expanded the space by adding four cozy cabins to share even more of this mountain retreat with others.
The name “Bitter Goose” comes from one very grumpy goose who wasn’t thrilled about our early renovations. He made his opinion known, and the nickname stuck! Today, the name brings a smile and reminds us of the property's personality and roots.
We love hosting and sharing this peaceful part of Pennsylvania with others whether you're here for adventure, family time, or a little peace and quiet.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
We fell in love with this land the very first time we stood at the top of the hill and looked out over the Allegheny Mountains. There’s something about the air here it’s quiet, fresh, and still in a way that makes you instantly take a deeper breath. The sunrises feel like something out of a painting, and at night, the stars seem impossibly close.
This area is part of what’s known as Raystown Country, and it truly lives up to the name. You’re surrounded by rolling hills, winding back roads, and the kind of natural beauty that encourages you to slow down and savor the moment. What we love most is that it offers the best of both worlds: complete seclusion and peace, yet it’s just a short drive to Lake Raystown, hiking trails, scenic parks, and small-town charm.
Wildlife is part of the daily rhythm here. You might look out your window and spot white-tailed deer grazing in the morning mist, a flock of wild turkeys crossing the trail, or frogs hopping near the pond as the sun sets. Kids love the simple thrill of chasing fireflies, skipping stones, and picking wild berries in the summer.
This isn’t just a place we own - it’s a place we built our lives around. We’ve raised our family nearby, restored the land and buildings with our own hands, and shared it with guests who often return year after year. There’s a calm and comfort here that’s hard to describe until you feel it for yourself. It’s the kind of place where stories are shared around a fire, morning coffee tastes better on the porch, and everyone young or old finds something to love.

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
What sets Bitter Goose Lodge apart is the feeling you get as soon as you arrive like you’ve stepped into your own private corner of the world. Tucked into 23 acres of open fields, forest, and mountain views, our property offers a rare combination of privacy, space, and natural beauty, just minutes from the fun and adventure of Lake Raystown.
Our guests don’t just stay in a cabin they have full access to the entire property. That includes a lighted in-ground pool, a catch-and-release pond, private hiking trails, horseshoe pits, wide-open skies, and all the peace and quiet you can handle. Families and groups love that there’s room to spread out and reconnect, whether they’re roasting marshmallows, picking wild berries, or playing tag in the fields.
We’ve carefully restored and added to the property ourselves, keeping things simple, comfortable, and welcoming. The lodge and cabins are thoughtfully placed so each group has space and privacy—yet many families book multiple cabins or the lodge together for reunions, retreats, or holidays. It’s a space that naturally brings people together while still letting everyone breathe.
And then there’s the name The Bitter Goose. It’s a nod to the grumpy goose who "welcomed" us when we first started renovating. That story has become part of the charm and spirit of the place: a little quirky, full of personality, and unforgettable in all the best ways.
Whether you're here for adventure, relaxation, or both, Bitter Goose Lodge offers something that’s increasingly hard to find—a place to slow down, stretch out, and create memories that stick.
