Anchor Island, an enchanting historic jewel
Soften your lens with this historical private island lodge. Hand-hewed log cabin +bunkie built by 2 Finnish brothers in 1949. Impressions of a timeless cottage era will delight your imagination as you take in the Archipelago and its natural beauty that will capture your romantic sensibilities. Lounging from the verandah, extend your gaze down the multitudinous South Channel as you savour your favourite libation, taking in the majestic continence through the distant eyes of the Group of Seven.
The space
The Bunk House (a.k.a. "bunkie) firstly greets you as you gently
navigate your way on originally cut granite steps to the main lodge. The bunkie is an original hand hewn log structure embellished with a queen cast iron bed, closet and private front open porch to perhaps sip an early morning coffee whilst gazing across the broad expanse of water and shoreline. The main structure, or "lodge" as all cottages were then referred, sits on a solid stone foundation. Complimenting its original integrity, a separate access full bathroom addition of a glass tiled shower, copper sink and toilette, boasts a modern style edge. A private out door shower option for persons who may covet a greater natural setting. Enter now into the utility kitchen with full sized oven and refrigerator. Two stainless steel sink with wood cutting countertops, microwave and toaster oven provides ample opportunity for making sumptuous cuisine repast. The main area boasts a magnificent Canadian Shield granite fireplace accompanied by a comfortable sectional couch and pull out Chesterfield. Enjoy board games, cards or making crafts as is tradition in the classic cottage culture. A dining table situates under a newly inspired "floating loft" with 2 double futons for children or those young at heart. An original sleigh day bed invites an afternoon or evening repose for a singular guest. Beyond lies a queen bed tastefully holding space framed by a south facing pane window. Two main entrances into the lodge; one through the kitchen, the other, opens up onto the front verandah which bestows comfortable outdoor lounge furniture and BBQ. Slumber in a full size hammock just beyond, adjacent to the smell and sounds of the Bay. Wade into the lake at your leisure via our child friendly beach, or, if you prefer making a bigger splash, the dock or aluminum bridge are always fun.
Other things to note
Adjacent private island at opposite end of bridge is owned by the Host: guests are not to trespass.
This is a non-EMF island. A guest may use their own personal "Hot-Spot", or bring a portable router device. See "Policies and rules" for more details.
