Shaver Lake Delight

Stayed here for one night in September. Nice big cabin just off the road going into Shaver Lake. Nice kitchen, cozy family room, wonderful deck. Slept six of us, each in our own bed. Owner Jill was great, making sure we had clear directions to the place and that we got in OK. Great value and a great time.

Perfect Shaver Lake House

The house was ideally located. Easily accessible to Tollhouse Rd., the town of Shaver Lake, and the lake itself. The house was a perfect combination of quaint mountain cabin and updated amenities. We will definitely return! We loved the large deck, spacious outdoor patio sofa sectional, patio table, Barbq and, of course, the view.

Birthday Weekend at Baxter Cabin

We celebrated a family birthday at Shaver Lake. The cabin was great for us. Beautiful view of the valley. Close to the lake, well stocked for group cooking and dining, great area for game playing. Jill kept us well informed and was available if we had any questions. We hiked the Lake Shore Trail and stopped for swimming and a picnic lunch which everyone agreed made for the perfect day.

Cozy cabin perfect for families

We loved this cabin and will definitely stay again. The kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc that we needed to eat most of our meals in the cabin. The local restaurants are limited (great pizza, sandwich shop, grill options). The dining area and living room were both big enough for our family of 5 to eat/rest comfortably. The cozy fireplace, tv/dvd player, and beautiful views made relaxing in the cabin a highlight. Bedrooms were comfortable and having two bathrooms was helpful. The renovated kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and original paneling in this cabin was the perfect combo of updated and vintage. Clean, comfortable, and warm from the heater and gas fireplace. The owner Jill was super responsive to questions. China Peak ski area is not far away, and there are two snow parks on the way. There were mudslides and some road work being done which slowed us down, so leave extra time to get around. Carry chains although we luckily didn't have to use them this trip. We had to leave a day early due to storms, but we had an epic ski / boarding day before we left. In Shaver, Bob's Market is well stocked and he is super helpful. Two sporting goods stores carry sleds, clothing and gear. Many trails to hike/walk (we like the trail behind the Forestry Fire Station on Dinkey Creek, which takes you through the woods and down to the shores of Shaver Lake), although right now the snow is so high you would need snow shoes. We have stayed in several cabins in Shaver, and this was by far our favorite. We will be back to enjoy the beautiful deck with gorgeous views.

Comfortable cabin in a convenient location

We had a wonderful time spending a couple days at the Baxter Cabin in January. The cabin was clean, spacious and well equipped with everything we needed. The location is very convenient- tucked away from main road, but still very close to town’s restaurants. The cabin sits atop a hill and we were able to go sledding right outside the cabin with plenty of space for snowman building and snowball fights too. Look forward to coming back on our next Shaver Lake vacation.

MLK Weekend

Our family stayed at the cabin during our MLK snowboarding trip and it was great. It was clean, spacious, and within 25 minutes from China Peak. The directions and communication from Jill were great. We would stay again.

Great place to spend our Thanksgiving

We really enjoyed our stay at the Baxter’s cabin. Our family went for Thanksgiving and the kitchen was a great size to allow for all of us to get together and cook. We had a little mix up with the check in process but the owner was able to clear it up quickly. Our biggest issue was the snow... while it was beautiful and we absolutely enjoyed it... the people who were supposed to plow did not do a very good job. (Note this is not a reflection on Jill) Even with 4 wheel drives and chains it took us 4-5 hours one day to get my parents out of the driveway. Just something to keep in mind if it snows... Other than that I loved the place and would stay again.

Location, location, location!

Cute cabin in the woods with a great location, just a short walk or drive into town, a minute to the lake. The kitchen is open concept and clean, the living room is comfortable and cozy, the bathrooms small but clean and the bedrooms were restful and well-appointed. Jill was professional and friendly and I found her a great host to work with. The kids didn't need to go to the snow park because they went right outside the door into the amazing sloped yard and played for hours! Win-win! Be advised if you're visiting during snow, their driveway is steep so 4x4 is recommended. We enjoyed our time there and would stay again!

Beautiful, Clean, Cozy

We had a wonderful stay at this cabin. It is cute and very clean. When we arrived in the evening the house was nicely lit with the fire going! After having a great stay Jill was nice enough to mail a stuffed animal our daughter accidentally left behind. We will definitely be returning. Thanks for a great weekend getaway.

Zu Gast bei Jill Baxter

My husband is college football coach at Fresno State and founder and creator of Academic Gameplan. I am Sports Law attorney/and CEO of our company Academic Gameplan, which teaches students how to learn. We have two adult daughters The cabin is our place to relax. We bring our horses in the summer, hike, boat, and spend time with all the cabin owners we know in Shaver. In the winter we ski, snowboard, sled, and snow shoe. We currently live in Clovis, CA.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

We looked for two years to find a cabin in Shaver. We wanted to buy a cabin not a house built in the mountains. This cabin has 4 bedrooms but was only 1,800 square feet. However, it felt much bigger, why?
This cabin was owned by the McQuaids for thirty years, a ship builder. Mr. McQuaid knew how to use space efficiently and used high quality building materials. It has great pine walls, well built, lots of big windows, 3/4 acre lot , but just needed some clean up. We spent two weeks putting in new flooring, decorating, and clean up. We found great antiques in the garage that now hang on the wall in the reading room. The cabinet in the reading room is the original kitchen cabinet of the cabin. The stone fireplace is made of quartz. The deck is huge and faces the beautiful trees. We can walk to town, the library, and to restaurants. This cabin is one of kind! We have been renting this cabin for years and everyone loves this cabin including us!! So if you rented this cabin from Bill, he retired. The second property management company isn't renting cabins anymore. So we are now renting this by owner. We love that other families enjoy our cabin, too!

We remodeled the kitchen, bathroom, and upstairs. The kitchen and bathroom custom cabinets were made out of a shaver tree my husband assisted well known logger Jeff Young hoist out of the bottom of Shaver Lake. The beautiful stone floors were installed by well known mason Dan Young. A beautiful stone shower in the bathroom makes you feel like you are outside. It is the only cabin in shaver with sinker wood custom cabinets. The upstairs bedrooms have all been recently painted and removed all carpet and put in flooring. The Deck is the same size as main level of the cabin. Beautiful View of Trees from every window in the cabin, Close to town, Not close to other cabins, lots of parking, Pine walls, well built, a cabin not a house built in the mountains, Five bedrooms, reading room, living room, large kitchen, separate mud room.
