The stay started off great. Day one was great. Day two: after exploring the city all day we came back to an apartment with no power. The rest of the building and the neighbors had power but our particular unit did not. The circuit board had no power to it. The power was out like no one paid the bill. We had trouble contacting the host with the cell phone number provided. She did not respond to our call or text. I tried to contact her via the VRBO app messaging system and had luck reaching her there. She was slow to respond and made promises to get the power back on. This started at 5p and we took our young children out to dinner to give her time (3.5hrs) to remedy the situation. When we arrived back the apartment was still completely dark, no power, no hot water, and no heat for a cold rainy evening with two small children. We ended up leaving and asking for a refund. She first stated she would refund the night we couldn't stay but then backed out after speaking to the VRBO agent. My husband and I were very upset considering it cut our weekend in San Diego short and the fact that she went back on her word of giving us refund. After many phone calls and long wait times we finally spoke to a manager at VRBO. They finally gave us a one night rate refund based on what the host originally promised. This situation could have been handled in a better manner by the host. Beware when staying here something just seems off with the whole situation.
