Filthy and in Bad Need of Upkeep/Maintenance
Oh, where do I start? Here goes:
We planned for a 4pm arrival so we wouldn’t be waiting around with a car full of refrigerated food until the property was ready. The good news is that I received a text at around noon saying that the property was ready. Upon our arrival, we discovered that the property hadn’t been cleaned at all. We called Elliott Realty to inform them that we needed a cleaning. Elliott sent a team of three people to do what they called a re-cleaning. The team agreed that the place hadn’t been touched. During these Covid times, this situation is a complete no no. The staff quickly worked to clean the condo so we could move in. They completed their work in about 45 minutes. This is a very large condo and we highly doubted that a thorough cleaning could have been accomplished, but we moved in anyway. It was Sat evening and we were anxious to start our vacation.
Upon further inspection, we realized that the entire condo badly needed a deep cleaning and was in disrepair. We were uncomfortable walking anywhere inside without shoes. We did our best to keep my four year-old grandson off of the floor. There were empty bottles under several beds and the carpets were dirty and stained. Several of the ceiling fans wobbled when we turned them on. They are filthy as well. The doors, blinds and wood trim need a thorough cleaning. The box spring encasements were frayed and disgusting.
Given the sorry state of the hard surfaces, we weren’t comfortable sitting on the couches without covering them with sheets.
The day after check-in, I drove to Elliott Realty to express my concerns about the state of the property. That evening, they sent a Cleaning Supervisor to address my concerns. She agreed that the property was in a terrible state that couldn’t be addressed with a bit of Windex and Pledge. She recommended that we ask to be moved.
So, the next morning, I drove back to Elliott to ask to be moved to a different property. They agreed to allow us to move. So, we forfeited a half-day of our vacation towards packing and unpacking. It was worth the move for some peace of mind.
Another significant issue was the fact that the kidney-sized swimming pool (to be shared by many units) was closed. We assume that it was because of COVID, but we don’t really know.
My family and I have rented vacation properties in Myrtle Beach and beyond, and I have never once complained about any of them.
