PLEASE READ:
Before booking Barlow Haus, please review our listing, house rules, and policies. Pets, parties, retreats, elopements, and smoking are not allowed. We have a strict maximum of 6 guests (best suited for 4 adults and 2 children due to one of the bedrooms having a shorter ceiling height). Please review the bedroom layout to ensure it’s the right fit for your party (see below). All guests must be verified through VRBO with a government ID. Follow us @barlow.haus on Instagram for real-time updates.

Barlow Haus is a charming, rustic cabin built in 1957, lovingly restored and updated. We fell in love with its location—nestled on two acres, surrounded by 360 degrees of trees. During the rainy months, a stream flows through the property, adding the peaceful sound of running water. The Sandy River is just across the street, and a great public beach access point for both kids and adults is only a few minutes away.

The cabin has been tastefully remodeled and designed with School-House Electric and Rejuvenation finishes. It features high-end SMEG and KitchenAid appliances, as well as a vintage Hartland stove/oven—a charming, cottage-like centerpiece in the kitchen. The living room is surrounded by French window panes, allowing natural light to flood the space.

For example, to enter the primary bedroom, you walk through the landing bedroom. The same goes for the room with two twins. The 3rd room is a smaller room with low ceilings better fit for 2 children or 2 small adults. The house has one bathroom, which is downstairs. The house is just under 1,000 sq feet.

- Bedroom 1 (Primary): Features A queen bed, linen sheets, extra blankets, a sound machine, a down alternative comforter, four pillows, and an additional heating/AC unit for extra comfort (leave the door open during the day to provide extra heat to the upstairs).

- Bedroom 3 is what we call the "Hobbit Room": A cozy space with two twin beds, two sets of pillows on each bed, and a 180-degree star projector perfect for a snug retreat. Anyone 5ft 4in or below can stand in this room, as the ceilings are shorter.

______
Guest access
All spaces are available for use except the owner's closet. Please be mindful of our neighbors property nearby and pay attention to any 'no trespassing' signs that have been placed on the perimeter of property.

PLEASE READ THROUGH:
- Cell service is challenging on the property so please use GPS before turning off the highway onto Brightwood loop. Once you arrive at the house feel free to connect to WiFi and enable WiFi calling on your phone to make calls and send messages.

- We are on a rural property that uses well water and a septic tank for wastewater. To maintain the system, please follow these guidelines: Only flush toilet paper—nothing else—down the toilet. Dispose of grease in the designated container in the kitchen. To protect the bacteria in the septic tank, we only provide natural cleaning products (no bleach). For this reason, our cleaners handle all laundry offsite, including towels and bedding.

- No Smoking Policy:
This home is strictly non-smoking. Smoking inside the property is prohibited. If evidence of smoking indoors is found, a $500 fine will be charged to cover the costs of cleaning and restoring the home.

- Please note that winter storms and high winds can create power outages at the cabin. Usually, these outages are short, and we have a kit prepared for our guest's comfort in case of such an event. In the event you lose power, we will be notified. If it does not resolve in a timely manner and a storm is approaching we will ask you to leave the home and refund you the nights you were not able to stay. Since our well has an electric pump you will lose access to drinking water on the property without power.

- Our stone fireplace is currently decommissioned and unsafe for use due to expensive repairs (we hope to restore it for guests in the future). In the meantime, we’ve installed central heating and cooling for your comfort. You're welcome to light the candles provided inside the fireplace for ambiance, but you may not use it for fires. We don’t allow candles in the house other than what we provide you in the fireplace. The wood stove is locked and reserved for emergency use during power outages as a backup heat source.

- Since our home was built in 1957, it retains the original charm, but please note that not all aspects are up to modern-day building standards.

- If anyone in your party has a disability or is elderly and prefers to sleep on the same floor as the bathroom, we have a pull-out sofa available for use.

- We do not allow the use of Purple Shampoo for color-treated hair, as it will permanently stain the Carrara marble shower. Please use the septic-safe soaps provided.

- We are located in a national forest and expect guests to follow government regulations such as fire bans. We'll communicate with guests accordingly. We ask that guests not use the wood-burning sauna or outdoor fire pits during burn bans. Please always use both with caution and respect.

- We have a Ring cam installed outside for security.

- We’ve created digital guidebooks to help plan your stay. One guidebook covers local activities (hiking, skiing, swimming, etc.), and the other highlights nearby restaurants—so you don’t have to do the planning yourself!

- The home is a peaceful retreat, not suitable for extra guests (max 6 individuals), parties, photo shoots, or retreats. Please be honest about the number of guests and notify us in advance if you plan to invite others. We are excited to host you!

Great stay in forest cabin

We had a beautiful stay in the Barlow Haus cabin over the holidays. Warm, cozy, and full of holiday spirit, including a Christmas tree, stockings, and a wreath on the door. Well outfitted kitchen. Bedrooms are tightly clustered upstairs with one a walk-through to the other two, and only one having a door, so it was snug with young kids and family but totally worked. Would happily stay again!

Kelsey and I are both grew up in Portland and returned home to start a life together after meeting at the University of Oregon. Kelsey has always had a sentimental attachment to this property as she grew up coming to this cabin with a childhood friend of hers and it became full circle when her family asked if we'd be interested in purchasing it years later. We spent over a year restoring and renovating this beautiful cabin before opening it up to guests and we also enjoy staying here often ourselves as our home away from home and get away from the city. We try to visit any opportunity we get. We are grateful to be able to share our love & passion for this cabin with others and allow you to be able to experience everything we love about this property. We enjoy traveling, the outdoors, trying new restaurants and everything the beautiful Pacific Northwest has to offer.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

The location of Barlow Haus is a large part of why we fell in love with it. The property is located on two acres, trees will surround every window you look out of. In the rainy months, a stream runs through the property and you can hear the sound of water flowing. The river is across the street and a fantastic beach access point for both kids and adults is just a few minutes away. The property is ideally situated for outdoor enthusiasts, with Mount Hood only 20 minutes away and numerous lakes, rivers, hiking, and biking trails in close proximity.

Return home from a day of hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, swimming, skiing, snowboarding, sledding, or mushroom foraging to a cozy house, a campfire, and smores, or a hot tub and sauna surrounded by 360 degrees of forest.
