While we were working on the house we discovered a signature on the kitchen wall from the builder.
Apparently a couple of his kids also signed the wall. The builder was Mr. E F Wilson. We believe the house was built in 1936. The stone house next door, which we also owned, was built by Gaines de Grafenreid in 1929, and added on later when he married and had two sons.
The original owner of 2521 we believe was Gaine's younger brother. We saved a piece of the original kitchen wall paper which we framed and left in the hall closet. We thought it was a fun part of the history.
The outside siding is mostly clear redwood. Because that old growth redwood is almost gone now (and is super expensive), we used cedar siding that was specially milled. We ordered it through Redwood Lumber in Waco. There are some planks of it in the basement. Since the mill required minimum production runs, we had some left over.
