The Creative Oasis on Hawthorne
Summary:
Located in the heart of the eclectic Hawthorne District, you'll be within walking distance of Portland's best restaurants, cafes, bookstores, brew-pubs, distilleries, and craftspeople. If you want to explore another area, I'm just over a mile from the West side via bike, walking, or bus. The place has been designed to create a sleek, soothing, and stylish feel, incorporating the highest-grade finishes.
Note: There may be noise; earplugs and a noise machine are available for your comfort!
The Space:
The exterior of our building stands out in a cityscape increasingly dominated by uniform structures. Featuring rusted metal siding, painted stucco panels, and blackened Japanese Shou Sugi Ban wood, it creates a distinctive aesthetic that catches the eye of anyone traveling along Hawthorne Boulevard. Ideally located between the bustling commercial heart of Hawthorne and charming, leafy streets lined with architectural gems from the past 120 years, our building offers the best of both worlds.
Inside, the design embraces a sleek, soothing European ambiance, with every detail crafted for luxury and comfort. High-end surfaces and finishes include mini-split heating and cooling systems, stainless steel appliances (including dishwashers), in-unit washer/dryers, and soaring 9-ft ceilings. Natural light pours through the huge windows, illuminating the stunning cabinetry and glittering quartz countertops, while the overall atmosphere is one of modern elegance and serene sophistication.
Thank you for considering our place, we hope to welcome you soon!
Guest Access:
You will have access to my 1-bedroom apartment on the third floor!
The Neighborhood:
Commonly known as “Foodie Row,” the Hawthorne/Buckman District places you within walking distance of an incredible array of top-notch local flavors (no chain restaurants here!). Indulge in vegan poutine fries and grilled PB&Js at the Cartopia food cart pod, savor wings right around the corner at Fire on the Mountain, share a pie at Apizza Scholls (consistently voted Portland’s favorite pizza), or opt for an elegant evening at Castagna—all within a 1.5-mile stretch.
Portland's charm extends beyond its culinary delights. The vibrant indie spirit of the Hawthorne area is alive with a multitude of made-in-Oregon shops and boutiques, making it a true hipster haven. Catch a movie at Bagdad Theater and Pub, a revamped 1920s theater turned view-and-brew venue serving local McMenamins food and microbrews.
If bar hopping isn’t your preferred activity, head up to Mt. Tabor, a 196-acre city park atop a dormant volcano vent. Here, you’ll find miles of hiking trails and incredible panoramic views of the city, providing a perfect escape into nature right within the city limits. Whether you're a foodie, a nature enthusiast, or someone who loves exploring unique shops, the Hawthorne/Buckman District offers something special for everyone.
Getting Around:
Staying at our Airbnb places you in an ideal location for exploring all that Portland has to offer. With a WalkScore® of 90, you’ll find that many of the city’s top attractions, dining spots, and shops are just a short stroll away. The neighborhood’s pedestrian-friendly streets make it easy to enjoy a leisurely walk to nearby cafes, restaurants, and unique boutiques.
For those who prefer cycling, Portland is renowned for its bike-friendly infrastructure. You'll find numerous bike lanes and paths throughout the area, allowing you to explore the city on two wheels. Bike rentals are available at several nearby shops if you don’t have your own bike, offering a fun and eco-friendly way to get around.
Public transportation is another excellent option for getting around. Several bus lines have stops within a short walking distance, providing direct routes to downtown Portland, the Pearl District, and other key areas. The #14 bus is particularly convenient, with frequent service that makes commuting a breeze. Additionally, the Portland Streetcar and MAX Light Rail are easily accessible, offering an efficient and scenic way to travel through the city.
If you prefer rideshare services, both Uber and Lyft are widely available and provide a quick and convenient way to get around. Traditional taxis can also be hailed or scheduled in advance, offering another reliable transportation option.
For those with a car, on-street parking is available in the neighborhood, though it may be limited during peak hours. Be sure to check for any parking restrictions to avoid fines. There are also nearby parking garages and lots that offer hourly or daily rates if you need more secure or extended parking options.
No matter how you choose to get around, staying here ensures you have easy access to all that Portland has to offer. Enjoy your stay and happy exploring!
