Accommodation good but area not so good! Also check in a nightmare!
Accommodation was ok but the area is not so good. It was very bad especially when we were returning at night, it had a huge number of people hanging around the streets causing trouble. We was advised by the local police to not walk the streets after 9pm and to always use Uber. The police greeted us when we arrived at the local metro station and informed us that the area was not safe and that we shouldn’t be walking around because of the high number of crimes being committed after dark. The area has some nice shops and fast food shops with good food especially one Chinese shop offering really tasty food. The area is very intimidating and you must always look out for yourself and know your surroundings.
The communication between the host and us was awful and really was a nightmare. We never received any check in instructions until we had to keep calling them. They would hardly pick up our calls.We had been calling them throughout the day we arrived and messaging them but they never replied until the very last moment. We was super worried that we may have been scammed and that we didn’t have any accommodation. We were new to NYC and didn’t expect this kind of communication. We should have received clear instructions on how to check in when they knew when we was arriving. They had our contact details including email address but they decided not to let us know anything. Very disappointing and made us very stressed out when we arrived. It could have been made to run smoothly.
