Adequate Accommodation, but Safety Concerns Outweigh
My best friend and I booked a one-night stay in Miami before departing from the Port. We arrived around 9:15 PM and discovered through VRBO that parking wasn’t on-site, which was concerning given the area. Fortunately, parking was nearby, but finding the unit was difficult due to unclear directions and lack of signage. The door had no number, and gated access made entering a 5-10 minute challenge.An hour after settling in and getting into bed (near the access door), someone attempted to enter using the digital code. Thankfully, the deadbolt was engaged, but without it, they would’ve entered while we were exposed. The individuals, who claimed they’d booked through another common website, repeatedly tried to gain access, but I refused to open the door. I called the host, who confirmed the unit was double-booked and said they’d handle the other party.This incident left us shaken and unable to sleep, worried it might happen again. Worse, we realized that had we gone out earlier, we could’ve been locked out instead. Despite the danger and distress caused by their mistake, the host and VRBO refused to issue a full refund, which I find completely unacceptable. This was a serious safety concern, and anything could’ve happened if the intruders had gained entry.
