Nice location in central square

A very nice apartment just steps from the red line. The apartment was very well equipped and the hosts were most helpful. The location just off Mass. Ave is a little noisy when the bars shut down.

first trip to Boston

The apartment was what we expected; clean, in a great location, and plenty of room for two people. We were worried about parking, but the owners have a visitor's parking pass that worked while we were there. Access to Cambridge and to sites in Boston was wonderful. The owners were very helpful.

Mother/Daughter trip

I came with my mother to visit my sister, who lives in Cambridge. Turns out, she lived a block away from this lovely VRBO. It was perfect for the two of us. Very close to the T. Beautiful garden out back. THe apartment was newly remodeled and lovely. The freezer was stocked with coffee, which was a relief! Definitely recommend staying here!

A gem in Cambridge

Imagine if you bought a pied-à-terre in Cambridge and spared no expense in fixing it up- modern style, hardwood floors, up to the moment appliances, decorator counters and bathroom, with a comfortable leather sofa and bed. This is what this apartment is like. You feel good being here. Carolyn and Bill are totally thoughtful, gracious hosts, from the chocolates and flowers that greet you to the fresh coffee in the cupboard to the soft big towels. The area is so convenient- some of the best restaurants in Boston within walking distance, and the T and movies/mall/groceries are nearby. We lived here for three months before and were here for a delightful vacation now, including a Harvard basketball game. Perfect.

Great place in Cambridge, Massachusetts - perfectly situated between MIT and Harvard

The apartment is fantastic. It is very comfortable, and very clean. It is centrally located, a 14 minute walk to MIT, and a 24 minute walk to Harvard. It was an ideal apartment for a one-term sabbatical leave. It contains all the amenities needed, including a dishwasher, laundry, etc. So if you are travelling from afar, you will be set with everything you need, including towels, etc.. The landlords are onsite. They are extremely pleasant, very helpful, and willingly share their extensive knowledge of the city and the neighborhood. There are convenient grocery stores a few minutes away, including an H-Mart (an Asian grocery store), and STAR Market (a standard grocery store). There are a number of inexpensive restaurants nearby, and lots of Cafes. If I were ever in the Boston area again for a stay of a two weeks or more, I would certainly try to stay here again. The apartment is a WINNER!

4.5 Star modern apartment in excellent location with many amenities

Excellently located near Central T and Bus #1 stops, easy walking distance to Harvard Yard, Star and H-Mart groceries, restaurants and shops. Getting to and from the airport, the art museums, Haymarket, and other places is very easy. Three closets, many hangers, dresser, bed tables, small shower, iron and board, nicely equipped kitchen with dishwasher, lots of pots & pans, & shared washer/dryer, large fridge, 4-burner range with oven, microwave, disposal, knives with sharpener!, enough flatware and dishes that we had friends over for dinner, good lighting, excellent wifi. Supplies included soaps, dishwasher pellets, teas, coffee, flour, sugar, chocolates on the pillows, 4 large & 1 small towel. Except for Saturday night with Mass Ave bars and a parking lot brawl, very quiet and certainly very safe. 4.5 rating because it is missing a few things we like -- luggage racks, tops to fry pans, cloth napkins, more serving pieces & microwavable dishes. However, if only based on what we heard about dorm accommodations, we are very happy we stayed here. The space, amenities, and location are terrific. This is one of our best VRBO rentals out of many. Book early and you won't regret your stay!

Quick Boston escape

My wife and I spent several days with close friends in Maine, prior to exploring Boston, Saturday through Monday. This apartment near MIT and Harvard was the perfect spot for the short visit. We prefer experiencing the local culture as opposed to the touristy hotel options. This had us just off of Massachusetts Ave., in a very quaint and comfortable apartment. The owners were very accommodating meeting us early so that we could drop off our bags and return the rental car. They actually gave us keys 3 hours early in case we wanted to get settled. The were very service oriented owners. There was a clear eye to both detail and cleanliness in the apartement. The appliances were very new as were the cabinets in the kitchen. It appeared the bathroom had been updated with a very cool vanity and sink as well as shower. The subway was within about 2 blocks and there were numerous dining options a 1/2 block away. We spent two full days seeing the sites and took in a Sox game at Fenway park, all using the trains! This was a great apartment and we would highly recommend it!

Great Apartment, Great Landlords, Great Location in a Great City!

We found this apartment to be perfectly designed and located for our 4-month sabbatical in Boston. The living and dining space is very comfortable and well appointed for 2-3 people. The kitchen is fully furnished with high-end appliances and plenty of dishes and cookware so you can take full advantage of the three food markets within a 10 minute walk. A newly landscaped garden area is a lovely escape for warm weather and early morning coffee. Laundry equipment right outside the apartment door is a wonderful convenience. Bill and Carolyn are wonderful people (as well as landlords), always attentive to our needs yet also very respectful of our privacy. They keep all aspects of this property spotlessly clean and in top shape! Central Square is eclectic and interesting with many excellent eateries, (don't miss Café Luna - we almost did!) as well as an excellent location from which to catch the subway or bus just around the corner. From here you can get to anywhere in Boston and even beyond. We often commuted to the western suburbs to visit our daughter. It is a nice half-hour walk down to the banks of the Charles River in two directions. Parking is difficult though not impossible - but read the signs as they DO tow! In short the property, the location and the landlords made our transition to Boston effortless and great fun!

Best VRBO stay so far

My husband and I stayed in the apartment for 11 days while our son was finishing up the Berklee Five-Week program and I could not have been more pleased. The apartment was cozy without feeling cramped, and it had everything we needed, including for cooking. The lack of a TV was not an issue, since we used the fast wifi for streaming services. The shower took a little bit of figuring out on the first day but as long as the water is on full blast it heats up right away. And the air conditioner was fantastic on some of Boston's most muggy and miserable days. The bed was super comfortable, and there was ample space for storing clothes. As other people have noted, the owners of the property are friendly and hospitable; the apartment had fresh flowers and chocolate bars when we arrived, and being able to use the house's laundry facilities meant that we could stay as long as we did just using carry-on luggage. The apartment is incredibly centrally located, just a block off Mass Ave, so the Number 1 Bus and the T are within easy reach. We also loved H-Mart, the nearby Asian grocery store that is a two-minute walk away, and were in there at least once a day. The one thing I would recommend to people contemplating a stay here is: bring some foam earplugs. The place can be a little bit loud on the weekend depending on what is going on in the surrounding area. There is a parking lot that abuts the property in the back and one night some teenagers were having a rap battle with amplified music! But once I put in earplugs I couldn't hear a thing.

Stop Looking-Reserve your stay!!!

Our Son stayed here while attending a MIT Beaverworks Summer Program. Carolyn was the best! Always answered our questions thoroughly with amazing detail. I hesitated to write a question because I knew she would spend a lot of her time answering our logistical inquiry about the to-dos in Boston and Cambridge! Our Son enjoyed his time there as well as his siblings and family-friends visits. A fold out cot provided a sleeping place for him during their stay. He brought a kick scooter which allowed him to get to campus in 5 minutes. This is our first experience with a VRBO and staying in the heart of a bustling area active with professionals and students. A half of a block off of Mass Ave and at the rear of the house made you think you were down a sleepy country road. We’ve already been promoting Carolyn’s Place to those we know. Thank you Carolyn!!

Cozy oasis

This apartment was a perfect place to rest during a weekend of reunion festivities. In addition to a comfy bed and lovely sitting area and kitchen, we loved the thoughtful touches of chocolate for late night snacking and tea options for morning waking. Perfect

Our 3rd stay at Carolyn and Bills apartment. We plan our vacation dates as to when the apartment is available, Why look elsewhere, it has everything you need and its in the perfect location. Great garden for a morning coffee, kitchen has everything you need, enough space, comfortable, A/C for the recently hot weather and to top it all, Carolyn + Bill who are lovely people who are so helpful and friendly. When we are back in Boston we will stay here again because for us its simply perfect!

Home away from home

Convenient, modern and well-equipped

We had a nice stay in Cambridge, despite the frigid weather! The apartment was nice and warm, well-laid out, modern and fully equipped. Location is fabulous, right around the corner from many great restaurants and the Central "T" station to get to the rest of the city. Carolyn prepared me well for the challenge of parking a car there. After unloading our stuff, I moved the car to the garage a couple blocks away which charges $22 a day. The only reason why I don't give it a 5-star rating is the construction right outside the bedroom window that started up at 7 a.m. each weekday. We probably should have been told about it, we still would have come but it was a bit of a surprise.

Great Central Square location

Convenient, Clean, Cozy

* Well furnished kitchen: spices; utensils, cookware. * Great location. So many grocery stores and restaurants nearby. Close to the T. * Beautiful wooden floors! * Access to the washer and dryer was very much appreciated. * Construction next door included a pile driver, but they did not start until after 8am. * We were very busy, so did not miss TV too much. We could stream from the internet. But there was one evening we would have liked to just sit back and watch network TV. * The tankless hot water heater worked great for the shower, although the shower head is quite tall and difficult to direct for people 5'3" or less. * Thank you so much for providing such a lovely apartment with plenty of closet space for longer visits.

A perfect place located between MIT and Harvard

The place is extremely well managed and the owner is very responsive. It is very convenient to go to shops nearby, including a nice grocery store. Definitely highly recommeded.

Great location, well appointed

Exactly as shown in the pictures, kitchen had everything one needed to feel at home (even had some spices etc). Communicating with the owners before/during the trip was easy. The only two downfalls were the noise transfer from the unit above (it is an older building which gives charm but you can hear every footstep from upstairs) and the parking. There is a visitor parking pass but there are only 5 spaces on the street so we ended up paying to park at a nearby lot most of the time. Overall it is a great unit and the location cannot be beat!

My name is Carolyn and my husband, Bill, and I can greet you and give you the keys to the apartment when you arrive. We also provide a contactless check-in / stay option. Starting in 2010, we spent 3 years working with an architect, lighting designer, contractor and landscape designer to re-envision our home and to create an apartment on our first floor. Our home, our apartment and the garden have turned out to be delightful retreats in the middle of a bustling city environment.

One of the many joys of living in Central Square is that we walked to M.I.T. where we both worked in the IT department for many, many years. We retired in early 2018.

Bill has lived in this home since he was a student at MIT. Several years later, I joined him and together we purchased it in 1984, the year our son was born. We love Central Square for its rich weave of diversity and culture, restaurants and nightlife, education and the creative and whimsical local merchants!

Walkable, bikable or public transit to everything! Vibrant city activity all around and yet, in the garden you are within a little magic garden oasis.
