This memorable cottage-style home with a private, enclosed patio is the perfect home base for your trip to La Jolla. Nestled in a serene neighborhood, this adorable property offers a peaceful retreat for guests. The cozy studio features a comfortable queen bed, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The bathroom boasts a bathtub and a hair dryer for your convenience. In the additional living room space, you'll find a mini sofa bed, providing extra comfort for your stay. Though this home is a studio, it has a full kitchen. The kitchen has pots, pans, dishes, and a full-size refrigerator perfect for home-made meals. Our place is equipped for both long or short stays to make your La Jolla beach holiday one to remember.

Walk 2 blocks to the beach, Grocery, Liquor Stores, Restaurants, Bars, Salon, massage, etc. It's about a mile to La Jolla cove, downtown LJ or Bird Rock. 2 miles to pacific beach.

Please reach out before booking if your stay is not within the next 2 months. Please skip to the end of this section for breed limitations if you will be bringing any dogs.

This Home is Suitable For:

The IKEA solsta sofa bed is compact (sofa 54"x31"; bed area 46.5"x80.5"). The bed is bigger than a twin but smaller than a full/double. It sleeps 2 small people. The bed and sofabed are in the same area. There is no separate bedroom, so only book if you are close to those you're traveling with =)

Consider our 2-bedroom cottages next to this one (Villa Serena or Villa Tranquila) if you have 3 or more in your group.

Our humble, rustic cottage is not suited to people with allergies or people who expect a property without wear-and-tear. We want our rentals to be pet-friendly so we do not try to keep them perfect. We use non-toxic/humane pest control which sometimes takes longer to work. In a nutshell, wear and tear, a little fur, and the occasional pest is included in the rental. Thank you for understanding. =)

Pet fee is $15/night per pet and well-trained pets are welcome.

The following canines are not allowed on the property due to our insurance restrictions (which does not make an exception for assistance animals): Akita, Cane Corso, Chow Chows, Dogo Argentino, Pit Bull, Presa Canario (Canary dog), Rottweiler, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and any wild canine or hybrid thereof. No destructive or aggressive animals allowed. Service dogs must be with and under the control of their handler at all times.

Location location location

This little cottage studio was a short 5ish minute walk to the beach, shops, and restaurants. It ended up being a cold Valentine's weekend in La Jolla, while we weren't concerned with air conditioning, we appreciated the space heater we found in the closet. An extra blanket for the bed would have been great and some rugs for the floors would have kept our feet warmer, but overall we had a wonderful stay! The place was clean, kitchen with ample cooking supplies, and had a nice quiet calm vibe.

Never again!

FILTHY! Black mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, urine stained mattress. I wish I could attach photos here. Filth dripping down kitchen cabinets that was food. Not able to get in contact with the host. This place Is a health hazard and unsafe. I walked in and walked out after taking pictures and immediately calling vrbo to let them know that the host refused to even address our concerns and then went silent on us. The holiday inn across the street was the same price and CLEAN. I wish I had a better experience and the host was responsive. I have never complained over a room but this was something hazardous and down right disgusting for just having cleaners in it. The walls had gross food stuck to it. Ugh, please be weary of this host. I can’t wait to hear his response to my review and put me down somehow like he did others and justify himself. He could have emailed me ANY time to try and make it right. Even Vrbo was shocked when I emailed them pictures and said they too wouldn’t stay there. They offered to find me another place but after waiting around 3 hours for the hosts “cleaners” to finish and then walking into that disaster, the holiday inn across the street had to be better then what we just witnessed and it was perfect and clean. I WISH I could attach pictures to show you the utter filth in this hosts “cottage”. I truly hope the host takes responsibility and doesn’t lash out at me for speaking the truth. But my duty is to warn future guests. And once this review is on record, I hope the house, along with the other 2 connecting properties the host has for rent also get an inspection for harmful potential hazards.

Loved the Private Courtyard~Great for My Dog & my Morning Exercises

Small older bungalow; great courtyard which was nice, since the cottage was smaller than I expected; easy walking distance to beach; amenities needed, but "manager" was quick to get them upon our request; too bad the remodeling noise outside kitchen window had to happen 5 out of 10 days during our stay...poor planning on someone's part. That was the main drawback.

Very accurate depiction of the unit in your photos. Loved the front patio

The light filled room was great except when early am, there was no chance of sleeping in.. and just FYI, we were not comfortable using any of the plastic OR ceramic plates, as neither did we feel we could get completely clean. As the ceramic plates have ridges that were were unable to get the old residue out,, we went and purchased paper plates to use. Not a huge issue, just not expected nor appreciated.

Comfortable-Good location

A few upgrades could be made. Tub was slow to drain after shower. Futon mattress was a bit uncomfortable. Although California temps are cool, unit was a bit stuffy with only an overhead fan. But overall, unit was quaint, cozy and patio was enjoyable. Nikki was super friendly and helpful and John (the manager) was professional and thorough.

This quaint little villa is perfectly descibed

We enjoyed the neighborhood and the hiking trail behind the park. The beaches are amazing and the location is close to each. The villa was perfect for our fur child as well. But note the refrigerator does make a lot of noise and the futon works for a couple of days.

location is awesome

This was a good option for me to bring my two dogs to escape the Bobcat fire in the San Gabriel Valley. This is a very rustic cottage. This is not an "instagrammable" cute place, it's basic and has major deferred maintenance. However, the location is absolutely awesome. it's 2 blocks to the beach in one direction, and about the same distance to a wonderful local park with dogs, and a walking trail.

We had a great time. The home is EXACTLY the way it is described. Close to everything, nice neighborhood, we had no problem finding parking. Owner was very responsive! I definitely recommend this home if you read the description carefully and know that you are getting exactly what is described.

Beach cottage stay

Location, location, location! Loved being within a short one block walk at Windansea Beach and an informal dog park and waking trail used by locals. Had a slight snafu with check in due to an app mistake which was handled wonderfully by Nikki. Only draw back for me personally was a noisy fridge as I am noise sensitive and this may be a non issue for somebody else.

Unwelcoming and disappointing property

As a long time VRBO customer, this La Jolla property was by far my biggest rental disappointment. I called VRBO to report my quality and safety concerns. Overall I concluded that this property was in need of a thorough renovation, upgrade, and cleaning. I cannot imagine that a quick phone call to the owner would make this a suitable place for a visit. The interior was grim, tired, and worn. The owners substituted arcane procedures for effective management practices. The apartment was so unwelcoming I checked out a day early.

Conveniently Located

Was a great location for what we needed. Just a short walk to Busy Bee Bagel shop! and to the beach to take in the beautiful sunsets. It was conveniently located to La Jolla Cove, Mission Bay, Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach. It was clean but could use some TLC/updating especially the bathroom and the window coverings. The bed is a Futon it was comfortable for a futon but very low to the ground. There was a mix up with getting the key but it was quickly rectified. Would stay again if we were to return to the area.

Disappoinment!

I initially contacted the owner by VRBO's message system, once we arrived. After 2 hours of no response, I used the VRBO phone contact to ask about finding and accessing the place. I spoke w/Nikki about how to find & access the location. Once on the property & inside the cottage, things weren't quite as they seemed in the pics & reviews Pros: 3-4 minute walk to a beach; a refrigerator, oven/stove, dishes/silverware, cable tv; access to a washer/dryer. The cons: There's no heater, aside from a tiny space heater (meant for use under someone's desk, to warm their feet) not to warm a 200 sq ft cottage. Upon entry, we couldn't find the space heater because it was so small, it fit in a kitchen cabinet. When inspecting the bathroom, there was 1 roll of TP, when I asked Nikki about finding more (we stayed 5 nights), we were told theres no more included because there was no room to store "bulk" TP. (Even as there was a barely used closet, 7 foot tall barely used bathroom cabinet, an empty 10 drawer dresser, a small bathroom cabinet (w/a plywood "counter") & two night stands.) Who knew even a 4 pack of TP was so bulky. The water was slow to warm, in both the bathroom & kitchen, be it to wash hands, self, or dishes. Because the place looks like it was built in the 30's or 40's, it's evident there's little if any insulation and as So Cal was experiencing unseasonable temps, every morning it was chilly (mid-30's), not surprisingly the tiny space heater did little to warm the place. We had access to a hair dryer, but it can only be plugged in to a kitchen outlet for use. There was about 2 teaspoons of dish soap for use to wash dishes. The faucet in the kitchen clearly needed 2 new gaskets as did the shower head in the bathtub (we made sure the shower water from the leaky shower head & tubing didn't leak onto the bathroom floor by rolling the tube up over the shower head.) An old broken foam soap pump dispenser was filled with mostly water & leftover soap to use to wash hands in the bathroom. The private patio in front of the place was dilapidated as was the entry gate. Dead plants in planters, a ladder fully extended leaning on the cottage next door, a garden work station that really belonged in the trash, & 2 random gate doors were on the patio along with 3 chairs & 2 tables. Overall, it was hugely disappointing! I am not a 5-star only type vacationer, but when I pay hundreds of dollars to stay @ a place, heat, TP, & soap seem basic. Never again!

Location! Location! Location!

Nikki is an amazing host! Being a new artist to California, she was super helpful with any questions about the house and/or neighborhood. What a beautiful place to lay my head for a month! I never wanted to leave! A short walk to the beach, bars, and restaurants. My favorite part about Solana was the private patio where I spent mornings drinking coffee or painting all day. I hope to have the opportunity to stay at this magical place again. <3

Best Spot in La Jolla!

Villa Solana was fantastic, close to tons of restaurants and only a 2 minute walk to Windansea Beach. It’s a quaint place, good for 1-2 people, very clean and has everything you need. It’s like a little hideaway with the jasmine wall out front and the patio gets beautiful sun through the day. La Jolla has many things to do for singles, couples or families. Nikki was very accommodating and helpful, she was there anytime I needed anything. I would highly recommend.

Charming studio apartment

Enjoyed my stay here. Clean, comfortable, and a short walk to the beach. Plenty of restaurants in the area, but downtown La Jolla is a little longer walk or a short uber ride away.

Magical

We felt like we were in a dream far away from reality..The blooming Jasmine was heaven to walk through. Villa Solana has a happy vibe that gives you lots of great energy. It so quiet and peaceful. We had coffee out on the private patio everyday. Villa Solana feels much bigger than it looks in pictures. Everything was much better than described. Nikki was wonderful to us. Thank you for sharing you magical place with us.

Good location. Cozy House

My wife and I stayed for 4 days and were pleased with the accommodations. The courtyard was nice and secluded and was perfect for our small dog to relax in. Basic kitchen and bathroom, but that's all you will need. We would stay again.

Great little place to stay if you want to enjoy La Jolla

My wife and I stayed here for a few days because we had a wedding to go to about 30 miles away and wanted to spend sometime close to the beach for our own anniversary. This place was small but it was great. The bed was comfortable and everything worked. Nikki was there when we arrived and helped us with whatever we needed. There is no A/C but the ceiling fan was perfect and all we needed. I was not hot or cold as we left the windows open at night with no issues at all. The area had parking and was about 2 blocks from the beach. A short walk away. Then at night we took a $5 Uber to the restaurants and bar. It worked out great. We really had a great time. I would definitely go back if we get another opportunity to head out to the west coast.

Great Vacation Getaway

My boyfriend and I stayed at Villa Solana over Memorial Day Weekend and it was excellent! The front patio with the outdoor string lights was charming during the evening and the inside had everything we needed. Windansea beach is quite literally a two minute walk from this Villa and makes for an absolutely beautiful run, beach and/or surf day. While this Villa is small, it is perfect for two people on a vacation. This part of La Jolla is relatively quiet, but with many restaurants and night spots you can walk to within ~10/15 minutes. It was extremely easy to travel anywhere via Uber and/or Lyft (ie. downtown La Jolla, San Diego, etc...). There is also free street parking should you need it!

Great Location

We had a really nice stay at the Villa Solana. The bed was super comfortable and the studio had a nice breeze running through it which made for a lovely afternoon nap. The beach is within walking distance and uncrowded. It's a great place to watch some really great surfers. We enjoyed the pet friendly atmosphere even though we didn't bring our dogs. We would definitely stay there again.

Quaint & close to the beach!

PROS: My trip was last minute & they made it easy for me to book! I loved the entrance with the jasmine hedge. The patio had the wonderful fragrance of the jasmine & I could hear the waves! It was a short walk to the beach (Windnsea). The place was small but big enough for me & my dog, comfortable, too! I cooked a few meals there so it was great to have the fridge & stove/oven. Parking was close with no stairs! CONS: I emailed to see if I could check in earlier than 5pm. They responded & apologized at 9:30pm after I had already checked in, saying I could have arrived early. Bummer, since I was off all day & driving in from OC. It would have been nice to avoid the rush hour traffic. They did let me check out late, so that was a plus! It also would have been nice to have been given the combo to the gate lock before I arrived. Not a big deal but I spent some time pulling up the info online on my phone to read it all again trying to get in, only to realize I needed to contact them. Got in the gate & still didn't know where the key was. All could have been avoided with a simple text or email in advance from them. Sorry to knit pick but customer service is key to happy customers! 😊

Quiet spot with wonderful owners

My daughter and I had a fantastic 6-night stay at the Villa Solana during her Spring Break. The Villa is a studio cottage that manages to incorporate everything you need to have a fun vacation by the beach. The bed is very comfortable (there's also a pull-out bed but we didn't use it), there is a full kitchen, a nice bathroom, and a private patio. Everything is small but cozy. The house is set back from the street so it feels very private. Although we brought no pets of our own (we have cats at home), meeting Nikki and her pups was awesome!
