So Private and Tranquil
My sister was visiting from California. We rented Waynes cabin with three other friends. Five women! We had a wonderful time. We took advantage of all the cabin and property had to offer. Saunas. Firepit at night with s'mores. Kayaking. Hiking. Fires in the evening in the cabin. The mornings are extraordinary if you like to get up early. The mist oen the lake combined with the wildlife waking up is breathtaking. The lake is delightful for kayaking and canoeing. My grandfather owned 100 acres in northern Ontario and this place took me back to my childhood and the wonder and awe of natures simplicity. You never have to leave the property but if you do, it is very close to both Haliburton and Minden. The area is rich with artists studios and galleries. This cabin is not to be missed! Oh, and the chipmunks (fondly chippies) will keep a smile on your face as they dash across the deck in their search for acorns. Truly a place to let go of the everyday stresses and just be in the moment.

slice of heaven
My wife and I (all g with our two dogs) stayed at Wayne's cabin this past week and it was like staying in our very own slice of heaven. We had a great time and the property is just amazing. As other a have said, I'd recommend having a 4x4 and then the drive is just fun! We will be staying here again. We both cannot say enough about this cabin.

Thanks, Wayne!
My husband and I had a lovely time during our 10-day stay at the cabin. It was comfortable and well-apportioned. We loved the wood stove on the cold and rainy days, and we got lots of exercise hiking the property! Wayne was a gracious host and we are eternally grateful that he shared his cabin with us.

A Spa for Mind, Body, Spirit
We both agree that the advertisement for Claypack Lake cannot prepare you for the absolutely therapeutic tranquility you will experience. First of all, Wayne's one hour to 90 minute “tour” of his family's cabin sets the tone for your stay with his gentle respect and awe for not only their home away from home but also the nature surrounding their home. The first thing Wayne helps you notice is the quiet. For a solid week all we heard was wind, birds, and water. (unless we used the CD player – and talk about good taste in music!) Before we arrived we had planned to drive into Haliburton (only about 15-20 minutes away) to see a movie or go to dinner, once at the cabin we didn't want to leave – so we made sure we had everything we could want so that we didn't need to leave. We hiked, swam, fished, cooked, played cards, read, used the sauna (wonderful!), showered in the outside shower (how freeing). Being alone with just the two of us and NO distractions was rejuevenating. This vacation, different from any we have taken before was just what the doctor ordered. Anthony even noticed his breathing slowed. We slept through the night (unusual for me) on the very comfortable queen size mattress. Speaking of comfort: the furniture and attention to detail throughout the cabin speaks to nothing but relaxation. Although I was personally dreading the outhouse (and bears), the overwhelming peace we felt at the cabin overrode any fears. The outhouse was actually the best outhouse we've ever used........with again - attention to detail. :) and we never witnessed a bear (pawprints – yes; the actual animal – no) The respect shown to guests is evident when you realize the personal belongings left behind by the family. Mi casa es su casa (My house is your house) is the overall feeling you have while at the cabin at Claypack Lake. Thank you, Wayne, for the grape preserves – delicious – even more so after we met and spoke with the couple who makes the preserves. You obviously attract warm, generous, trusting people. Thank you for trusting us with your home; we highly recommend this experience, which will be difficult to duplicate anywhere else.

A piece of paradise
Theres nothing I could possibly say that could describe being able to stay in such a natural setting within a 6 hour drive from home. My wife and I have been to quite alot of northern camps, private cottages, and this one ..by far was the best place we have been ..very relaxing. Wayne surely knows his stuff when it comes to making you feel right at home , from the beginning tour to the wild grape preserve, and the awesome maple sirup everything was perfect and really i can only thank wayne for renting out such an awesome plot of nature and keeping things simple.

Claypack Cabin - The Ultimate Getaway Experience
It was our first time to the Claypack cabin and we were met by Wayne when we arrived. He gave us a review of the amenities and walked us around the property for our initial orientation. The cottage had everything we needed, from kitchen to bedroom. The dock was the perfect place for our morning coffee, afternoon sunbathe or simply relaxing with a good book. In the daytime we hiked the trails, took the canoe out and spent quite a bit of time fishing which was excellent. The campfire is a "MUST" in the evening with all the firewood you could ever use. The night sky was beautiful offering excellent stars stargazing! We walked the trails every morning with our boxer dog "Nuna". We think she loved the place as much as we did! The peacefulness in the morning was amazing with the occasional loon greeting us. We have never been to an up north getaway that was so private though it is only a 15-20 minutes drive to Haliburton for a top up of supplies. Thanks Wayne for the wild berry jam, it was delicious along with your maple syrup we brought back with us. Wayne has put his heart and soul into the cabin as it felt like home and not simply an "income property". Thanks for a great “away from it all” experience and hope to be back again next year. Wildly Relaxing!
Rented for a week in July . 4 people total - 2 adults, 2 children. A wonderful escape - the boys had a super time exploring the woods, canoeing and kayaking, and ofcourse lots of fishing. We have never caight so many fish in one week! Be prepared for remote wilderness, and we recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get in and out of the property. If you are wanting to do alot of swimming this property is not for you - it is my only complaint. The lake is shallow and muddy. We had campfires, hikes and shelter building competitions! A fox visited us right on the deck every evening. Phesants trucking quietly up and down the trail to the cabin was majestic to see. The cabin itself is very clean, well equipped and functional. Although it sleeps 6 I don't recommend more than the 4 we had. The outdoor shower was a hit with all of us. I saw more stars at night than at any other cottage I have ever rented. Outdoor bathroom was only an issue for the kids at night but we managed just fine. Although it was the hottest week of the summer, we were always cool at the cabin. The washroom faciclities were clean and comfy (for an outhouse!) Lots to see and do in the area. Kids loved visiting the Haliburton Wolf Centre. Wayne was always available to us if we needed something and the perfect "hands off" host. We will definately return to this hidden wilderness oasis! We were glad that we decided not to take our dogs at the last minute because there were lots of animals around at night!

Better Than Meditation.
If you've been finding your chi a bit out of whack recently, the Claypack cabin is an ideal getaway spot to restore some of the long lost emotional balance. Provided, of course, you have the willpower to cut the cord and leave your arsenal of wireless communication devices at home :) It offers complete serenity and seclusion, with [nearly] all the creature comforts of a typical urban dwelling. Also, should you find yourself running low on consumables, the fridge re-supply depot (a.k.a. Minden Foodland) is only a short drive away. The surrounding area is absolutely gorgeous; trees, water, and an abundance of speedy chipmunks. The fire pit is placed perfectly for watching sunsets while polishing off hot, juicy sausages. An added benefit of spending time near the water is the exponential drop in mosquito attacks. The dock is an excellent spot for catching up on your favourite novel, solving a crossword puzzle, or simply having a cup of tea and taking in the sights...which include some pretty acrobatic fish! In the 1st week of July (2013), the water was warm enough to swim in. We also employed the kayaks for some exploratory trips though the water lilies, while the row boat contributed its mid-lake sunbathing services. The cabin itself has a rustic exterior design with quality wooden finishes on the inside. At night, the warm flickering glow of gas flames dances across honey coloured walls. Electric lights (also available), don't even come close to offering the same ambiance. Word of caution - on hot, humid summers remember to bring a plentiful supply of insect repellent and potentially a mosquito head-net if venturing out on a hike. The cabin deck comes outfitted with a large screen shelter, so that breezy outdoor meals remain an option even in the most buggy weather.

Nature at it's best!
There's something about stepping down to the dock the first time you're there and just seeing how tranquil and secluded it really is. I think we must have spent half an hour just standing and looking out onto the water before getting unpacked. The cottage was clean, organized and there really is all the fire wood you could ever want at your fingertips. It was beyond any of our expectations. We even had a chance one night around the campfire where a fox came by and said hello for an hour. The fishing was great, pretty much caught a few nice Largemouth each time we hit the dock or went out in the boat! This is a place you can't miss. Thank you Wayne for taking care of us. We'll be back next year!

Everything we wanted!
Our stay last week was simply incredible...early morning coffee on the dock with the loon, rowing on the peaceful lake, swimming in the clear, cool water, beautiful hikes, and the daily visit from the little doe with her tiny fawn. Our 12 and 15 year old girls were sad to leave as was our jack russell. The cabin felt like home from day one and the nearby town of Haliburton was quaint and friendly. We couldn't have had a more wonderful break from our fast paced lives.

Claypack Lake
We just spent a week at Claypack lake and had a great experience! It's like a little piece of heaven which makes it very hard to leave at the end of the week. From hiking through the trails, dirtbiking, kayaking, canoeing, portaging, enjoying the wildlife, the sauna and just relaxing by the water you definitely don't run out of things to do. The quietness and peaceful lake is truly amazing to wake up to each morning. We loved being so secluded and felt very relaxed once we left. It was everything we expected and were not disappointed at all. We are looking forward to returning next year! Thanks Wayne for a wonderful stay!

Claypack Lake
This was an idyllic place to have a holiday. There were no human sounds at all, just the sounds of nature. Tree frogs, crickets, chipmunks, ducks, geese, and oh, the birds!! There was also the sound of fish surfacing to eat flies from the surface of the lake. What a shame that the season was not yet open for fishing on that lake. There was also a doe on the other side of the lake, and one night as I was eating dinner, a big fat beaver took a swim across the lake exactly in front of me. The cabin was wonderful, very well furnished and the kitchen stocked with everything one could possibly need for any kind of a meal. I used the B.B.Q. every night. Wayne, the wild leeks were so delicious and the wild grape jam was amazing, thank you so much for everything. A truly relaxing and spirit raising vacation. I wish I could have stayed longer.

Stunning wilderness getaway
This is a fantastic getaway spot! A great time had by all! The journey into the cabin is stunning and an adventure in its own right. You are literally traveling through the forest and there is nothing around but the beautiful wilderness. The road in is very well maintained and cleared of snow regularly. When you arrive at the cabin you will find it to be perfectly picturesque. Nestled among the tree's and overlooking Claypack Lake, it's placement is well thought out and it affords great views of the lake and the hills surrounding it. The cabin is well appointed and tastefully decorated in a stylishly rustic manner. The furniture is very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. There is a handsome woods stove and lots of seasoned firewood to keep it warm and cozy. The cabin does not have a bathroom inside but there is a heated outhouse and it's nice and clean-also easy to get to day and night. The sauna/shower building is a great treat! A nice place to sit back and feel the stress melt away. This space is also very clean and the smell of the cedar is fantastic. There are trails throughout the property-lots of space to enjoy walking, hiking and snowshoeing. Make sure to bring the camera, this place is a photographer's delight! All in all, if you are looking for a getaway-I would definitely recommend this one. A great place to get back to center and rejuvenate the soul. Wayne is great to deal with and he provides you with all the information you need to know about the property. The literature is easy to understand and it clearly explains operating procedures so you can enjoy the cabin with confidence. A truly great time and very much looking forward to enjoying it again in the future! Jeff Lewis Hamilton, On.

Heaven on Earth
Upon our arrival, I stood on the neck and listened to the loons calling out as the sun set over the lake, and I thought, "If this is what Heaven is like, I'm ready to die right now." The property is perfection, from the well-kept cabin appointed with everything we needed for cooking to the decor of the cabin and the quality of the furniture. Wayne, the owner, was extremely helpful in orienting us to using his property, and his high standard of home ownership is evident in every aspect of the property. Boating on the lake brought us close to beaver dams, red-winged blackbirds, loons, and turtles. As we dove off the swimming dock, we couldn't help but think of the movie "On Golden Pond". We were honored to have a nightly lullaby sung to us each night by the loons. We appreciated the cabin's feeling of being a million miles from civilization while in reality it was a short drive to West Guilford and Halliburton. We visited the Halliburton Forest and got to visit a wolf sanctuary and see wolves close up as well as learn quite a bit about their species and its trials and tribulations as civilization closes in upon them. We were loath to leave this lovely cabin after a short 3 days, and are praying we can return some day. It would be worth the 5 hour flight from San Francisco to spend more time there! Many thanks to Wayne for sharing his lovely spot with us. Linda & Lloyd

KIM CREW THANKS U!
Hi Wayne! Thank you to you and Jane for allowing us to experience a cottage retreat like no other. And... Thank you for spending the time to walk us through Claypack and especially for being patient waiting for us as we were late arriving! Just wanted to drop a line before the city takes a hold of me completely...;) ...luckily we have some great photos to remind us of the supreme time we spent up at your cottage on Claypack almost a month ago! The sights, sounds, smells of the trails, fishing, bonfires, tanning and the list goes on and on were top shelf! The venison and syrup were both deeeelishous and so generous of you to offer! It was a bonus to our stay. What can we say, we all agreed that the week exceeded our expectations and we hope to keep in touch for future possible maple tapping trips or renting again next summer! Best Regards, Eunice

Hi Wayne
Just a quick note to say thanks so much for putting your cottage in the silent auction. We had a terrific time. It's wonderful that the place is so remote and yet just 20 minutes from home-I went "out" twice to attend meetings and then went right back in. Fabulous! Tony covered all your trails by ATV and didn't get stuck anywhere. I went out on it myself, camera in hand, but didn't get much further than the beaver pond, frogs and mushrooms. The mushrooms were brilliant (to photograph), not to eat)! The two-tier beaver pond at the head of the lake is fabulous and I took some good photos of it from the path side. Is that heronry active in the spring? If so, I'd love to go in when they're nesting to get some photos. So thanks again. It was wonderful to get away. We didn't break anything and washed, scrubbed and mopped our way out the door, so hopefully we left the cabin in acceptable condition. Say hello and thanks to Jane, too. Kindly, Carol & Tony

I love to play in the outdoors. My favourite activities include hiking, mtn. biking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, snowshoeing, bird watching, trail riding and making maple syrup. all of which I do on this property.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

My connection with the Haliburton Highlands goes back 50 years. I went to several summer camps as a child in this area, and fell in love with the lakes and forests. This was fostered by many canoe trips throughout the area. This property is very special to me, as it affords one all the benefits gained from undisturbed wilderness, while maintaining most creature comforts. There are no interruptions from neighbours. You will not hear jet skiis going by, or any other loud annoying activities. Just
the call of the loon along with the calls of countless other species of birds and
animals.

Although the cabins and lake are secluded, you are only 10 minutes from the village of
West Guilford which includes groceries and liquor stores, and 15 minutes from the
town of Haliburton, which has all the amenities one could need. This includes a state of the art hospital for emergencies.

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig

Watching Mother Nature without any interruptions.

Living in a Cabin constructed out of, trees from the property. This all wood sustainable construction feels ecologically sound and healthy.

Listening for and sighting exotic species of birds, and viewing wild game animals in their natural habitats.

Fishing on my own lake, and never getting
'skunked' (catch and release please).

Snowshoeing, and breaking trail up to the lookouts, where you can get a view of 3 lakes from one spot.

ATVing and snowmobiling on my own trails.

Making my own Maple Syrup.

Watching for the annual return of the great blue herons at our heron rookery.

Taking a sauna in one of the best saunas I
have experienced, and then rinsing off in the outdoor shower, (hot and cold water).

Canoeing and portaging to the next chain of lakes.

Knowing that I am the custodian of this wonderful place for generations to come.
