No Thank You

Pros: Easy Check-in, Quiet neighborhood, Host Communication. Cons: No porch light, Small bathroom, Beds uncomfortable, Couches needed vacuuming, Rug/Microwave/Bathroom wall needed cleaning. Responsive host but this place needs a deep clean and a new cleaner

A Return to St. Louis

I recently relocated to Arkansas after many years living in St. Louis. I returned to St. Louis for a few days to see the Cards play my hometown Reds and to visit friends. This apartment is located close to downtown St. Louis on the near south St. Louis. It's a very roomy, has a modern kitchen and a nice, fenced backyard. However, the owner appears to have not been attentive day-to-day maintenance needs. For example, the thermostat was not operating as its battery had died. The front room ceiling fan/light had only one bulb, with two empty sockets. Further the wall switch controlling the fan/lights only turned on the lights, but not the fan. The small room adjoining the master bedroom had a ceiling light that didn't operate, presumably because its bulbs had burned out. The sink in the bathroom couldn't be drained because the lever was inoperative. I suspect our host is trying to operate this rental by remote control and doesn't have a reliable system for keeping track of what needs to be maintained or repaired.

A bumpy start

I stayed for 2 weeks at this property while I was working and getting to know the area. I communicated with the property manager several days about issues. The unit needed a good cleaning and the floors were sticky and dirty. Property manager sent house keeping over to clean and mop. The floors were better but will still turn your feet black if you walk barefoot. The gas was turned off while I was there due to non-payment per spire gas, the unit managers solution was to bring a space heater for that night. The stove still is gas and didnt work while the gas was off. The unit manager did get the gas turned back on the next day. Also its street side parking only and on the next to the last day my car was hit and seriously damaged. Several of these things could have been prevented like paying the utilites and having house keeping clean better. Also you have to message through VRBO messenger and its a hassle to communicate with him. This unit smelled like cigarettes and marijuana my whole stay to the point a coworker could smell it on my clothes and hair from the other tenants in the building. I told this to the unit manager, his house keeper, and his maintenance man. It has a very limited kitchen. I cooked majority of my own meals and just bought some aluminum pans. It has a good amount of space and 2 king beds, I did appreciate the dishwasher and the washer/dryer after 12 hour shift
