Wonderful stay

My husband and I with our two children stayed for a week. The cottage was tidy and had everything we needed. The pool and outdoor area were our favorite! It was such a short walk to the beach! We appreciated the kayaks and enjoyed coffee on the canal dock every morning. Prior to our visit I messaged the hosts frequently and they were always happy to answer my questions. Fun family getaway

The house was perfect for the 4 of us and the listing is very accurate. We enjoyed the pool and the dock! The beach is a short walk away and not crowded at all. The neighborhood is lovely. We had a great time and would highly recommend this rental.

Beach Paradise

Cleanliness and amenities were top notch. Great location! Pool was fabulous. We love the north end of the island, and it was just a short bike ride away from our fav beach spot. Definitely a great house and would recommend to families wanting a relaxing vacay on AMI!

Second stay in probably quietest street on the island. Older property but immaculately clean. Great pool, dock onto widest part of canal. Bikes and kayaks provided. Very helpful owners. Couldn’t ask for more.

Amazing vacation! We are so thankful!

This house was GREAT! We used the kitchen to cook meals, grilled fish by the pool, biked around the island, kayaked in the canals, made smoothies with fruit from the farmers market! We were very thankful to find this house as we are chemically sensitive and don’t like plug ins and air fresheners and this place did not have those. The owners were great when we asked about a fishing pole, they went above and beyond. If I were to do it again, I think we wouldn’t have gotten a rental car and gotten a ride from the airport instead to save money because we left the car parked the whole trip I made memories with my parents and husband that I’ll treasure forever. I really hope we can come back!

A very conveniently located rental in the heart of AMI. The property was clean both inside and outside with a good sized pool and dock. We spent many an hour fishing and canoeing from the dock.

Highly recommended

Enjoyed our stay (despite hurricane threat!) and the house provided everything we needed. House is clean, beds are comfortable, aircon cold, and just a short walk to best beach on island - who needs more ! Outside, the garden has shade, the good sized pool is clean and we saw Manatee and all sort of other wildlife from the dock. Our stay was interrupted by hurricane Idalia, but the owners kindly provided use of a condo a few miles inland until It passed. Fortunately the house, and AMI generally, wasn’t affected so we could resume our holiday. We have stayed on AMI many times and this house is in the perfect location - a quiet area, away from the crowds, and beach visits without parking issues.

Great Location

We loved the house and all of its amenities. Being able to walk to the sunset each night was nice and the neighborhood is very quiet. We were surprised by how spacious the house and the pool were. It really added to our vacation being able to kayak and fish right from our own private dock.

Great Experience

We loved our stay at this property! The house comes as advertised, very clean, within close proximity to all of the main attractions on AMI! The house has tons of gear and toys you will need for the beach/pool, is a quick walk to Bean Point, and a short golf cart drive or bike ride to Pine St. It was awesome having our own dock to hang out at, as we got to see a manatee come cruising back and hang out right in front of our dock. Also being able to kayak right off the dock and going out to the bay was a great new experience for us and our kids as it only took about 15 minutes kayaking to make it there. The pool is huge, has a great screened in porch to eat off of, and plenty of space to move around out back. The owners were great and easy to communicate with leading up to our stay as we had no issues once there. The carport was also great if you rent a golf cart for the week and need to keep it cool or out of a Florida storm. I would definitely recommend this home for anyone wanting to enjoy a great stress free vacation and will definitely look to rent again on our future visits! Thank Jim and Margaret

An oasis in paradise

We had a fabulous stay in this lovely home. It had everything we could need, and instructions and directions for staying here were thoughtful and useful. The location was perfect, being a simple bike ride from beaches, restaurants and shopping. The pool and dock were the perfect extension of the home, and an additional oasis in this little piece of paradise. We will 100% be returning guests!

The house was wonderful and in a great location. Easy check in/out process. Dock fit our boat great 23’ boat however you have to go under a bridge to get to gulf, our boat has a t-top and you can only make it under during low tide.

Simply wonderful!

We loved the quiet location and were able to walk to many of our favorite spots. Fishing off the dock in our backyard was so relaxing and we caught quite a few fish over the week. We would definitely rent here again!

Zu Gast bei Margaret Hudgings

Jim is a Florida native who vacationed on Anna Maria Island as a child. His grandparents built a cottage here in 1941, having originally come over to the island in the early 1920's by steam ship! Margaret and Jim met in the 3rd grade, married after college and have 3 grown children--Graham, Ian and Meg--and 5 grandchildren. All of us love this island. Our main residence is in West Chester, PA, in an 1876 Victorian town house. Jim is a mechanical engineer who taught at a community college, and Margaret worked as a school psychologist in an independent school. We have hosted many international students in our home and been involved in exchange programs around the world and especially in Japan and the UK. We are retired and are enjoying time with family and lots of travel. On our last trip abroad, we visited Germany, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.

We bought this property in 1981 because of Jim's family connection here and because it is simply the most beautiful beach spot in the world. We knew we wanted to spend time here in retirement and felt we needed to buy early. In December 2011 we completed a renovation of the property, adding a large salt water pool, a screened porch and extra half bath near the pool--and created a totally new 'old' look with a peaked metal roof and 1930s look furnishings. We also added lots of insulation for summer and winter comfort and Florida native landscaping with palms and wild flowers. The location is ideal --a couple blocks from beach and bay, on a wide canal which is like a lake. Iris Street is a cul de sac --so not much traffic and wonderful neighbors.

The proximity to the gulf beach, the canal with dock and jumping fish, the lack of traffic--and all on the quiet north end of the island and yet close to unique shops and good restaurants--especially the Sand Bar where you can eat--on the beach.
