Great location

We were very mixed on our stay. The duplex is great with an open floor plan and plenty of space. Most everything was updated which was very nice but then there were things like the TV remote was duct taped together to work and there were no hand towels in the bathrooms. Gary was out of town when we arrived and his cleaners did a poor job unfortunately on restocking the place. We didn’t have any paper towels and dish soap and when we asked Gary where they were he said they must not have restocked and if we picked some up he would Venmo us reimbursement since he was out of town. We thought that was nice of him. But when we tried to use the outdoor grill a few days later after we think he returned back in town he responded the same way for us to go exchange it somewhere and he would reimburse us. Honestly we didn’t think we should be asked to do that ourselves and it would have been very inconvenient with our schedule of running back and forth to our daughters swim meet we were attending so we just didn’t use it. We also woke up the morning after we arrived to find a horrible smell in the garage to find the big garbage can overfilled full of bags of the previous renters garbage. When we alerted Gary of this we found out there wasn’t another pick up until after our 5 day stay so we had to place the can outside the garage by the door and walk past it every day. A lot of the issues we had were with the housekeeping and as we ourselves have a rental property we know that can outside of the owners control sometimes but it just seemed to keep piling on for us. Overall I have to stay our stay was good as far as the property, decor, location(short drive to lady bird lake) and Gary’s quick responses but with some of the other things we entered we probably wouldn’t choose to stay here again. Also as the previous reviewers have said- this is Gary’s home- there are a lot of personal items he keeps there. We just didn’t think it appropriate some of them we came across.

Great House, Great Location

This home is located extremely close to town. It feels like 15 minutes to get anywhere. The home is beautiful and the owner was responsive and helpful. You can't go wrong with this place. Highly recommended.

Perfect

Host was extremely helpful. Two members of our party arrived a little early and he was kind enough to allow us to drop our bags off so that we could go explore without lugging around everything. House itself was well maintained and nestled away in a wonderful little neighborhood that was close enough that you could walk, ride bikes/scooters or hop in a quick/cheap uber to get everywhere. Made friends with the neighbor and his friendly pup. All around it was the perfect spot for my small group of guys visiting Austin.

Everything was as described. Even had a 12pack of shiner for us. Easy commute to Rainey and dirty 6th. Master bed was one of the most comfy beds I've ever been in. Central HVAC works great. Tv and entertainment system nice!

It was OKAY

The property on the outside is very nice and the neighborhood is beautiful -- Close enough to downtown that its convenient but far enough that its quiet. Access through the garage with a pin code was convenient and the accessible washer/dryer was greatly appreciated. The backyard was clean and is equipped with a small grill which was so cute. Gary, the owner, is a great host 10/10. The house description is where it becomes less than expected – the listing states 4 bedrooms which includes an office that can convert to a room. Future renters be aware that the 4th bedroom referenced is not a closed in office but an open space on the 2nd floor above the living room, visible right as you walk up the stairs. And “converted into a bedroom” meant there was an air mattress on the floor. The first night we stayed there, a guest literally slept on the floor as the air mattress was so badly damaged that laying on it for more than 20 mins, completely deflated it to the floor and he did not want to wake the house by turning on the air mattress to inflate every 20 mins. The fridge is subpar, barely keeping even mini water bottles cold. This was disappointing as we had cooked a meal our first night and overnight it had gone bad before we realized that the fridge compartment does not get cold. We had to turn the FREEZER section to the absolute coldest setting (there is an air flow control between the freezer and the refrigerator compartment) just to get the refrigerator to slightly chill our beverages. Obviously not ideal but we improvised. More on the listing, it is a 2.5-bathroom house not a 3 as listed. Additionally, this is a DUPLEX which is not stated anywhere. The unit rented is APT B which my guests and I had to determine upon pulling up to the location and reviewing the VRBO images online to take an educated guess, with the risk of pulling into the wrong unit which I’m assuming is someone’s private property. Also, it is listed as a 3000 sqft property but it’s really between 2,000 and 2,100 sqft. ALL THIS BEING SAID – IT IS AN OKAY house. NOT worth the price currently listed on VRBO. Because of the discrepancies in listing vs the reality of the house, it’s fair to say this house should be priced about a $100 less a night than what was paid. There were many more options ranging from $25 to $75 more a night for a fully glammed out, Austin style, working house that may be a better option for you future renters still researching your stay.

Perfect Austin Vibe's

Gary was very accommodating and very responsive. The Hendrix painting is what peaked my interest in the house. The house was great for our group. Gary's home; which is furnished with comfortable couches, a huge TV, and ample space to eat and chat with each other. the house was literally a 10 min drive or less to everywhere we wanted to go in Austin; A market just down the street and very easy to get on the I-35. Uber/Lyft trips were fairly cheap if you wanted to party on 6th or Rainey. We would definitely book again if we go back to Austin.

Great Austin Location!

Great location, easy access, close to everything

The location of the house was perfect. The beds are incredibly comfortable and the overall home is warm and welcoming. A good rental does not feel like a rental and just makes you feel at home. This place does it.

Great Experience!

Awesome Riverside Home

Great house in a great location

Five of us were very comfortable here during our stay for a family wedding. The house is modern and clean with an open floor plan on the first level that was conducive to relaxing and visiting. The master bedroom suite on the first floor is very comfortable; two additional bedrooms and the bathroom on the second floor provided more than ample space. As a previous reviewer noted, there is a powder room on the main level but not a third full bath, which wasn't a problem for us. Gary was very accommodating and flexible with the check-in and check-out times and was readily available to answer our questions. We already knew the neighborhood because our daughter lives a block away--an added bonus! It's an easy walk to the boardwalk around the lake and a five-minute drive to downtown. Loved our stay!

Great house, great POC and great location!

A group of friends and I booked this house to attend the ACL music festival and we really had nothing to complain about. The house was well maintained and the owner (Gary) even left us a stocked fridge with beer! The sound system is perfect to pre-game or entertain and the location is slab in a central location in the city. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to explore Austin and have a good time!

Great House in Good Location

The house was perfect for our needs and in a great location. The only things I would say is that it is advertised as 3 bathrooms, however this is in reality 2 bathrooms and a toilet, which as 3 single travellers was ok, but not what we were expecting. The house was clean and tidy throughout, however the bed in the third bedroom was not made when we arrived. The property was great, however I would suggest that a few more basic items are made available, for instance, there was coffee but no coffee filters, and tea bags but no kettle to boil the water. The heating in the house was great, however there was no instruction on how to use it, and on our first night it was set so high that it was uncomfortable to sleep in the downstairs bedroom and no matter what we did we could not lower the temperature. Other than that our stay was very good and we would stay at the property again in the future.

This is officially our Austin home away from home!

The home is exquisite - it has all the right amenities and space. Very comfortable. Our son moved to Austin last year and for now on this will be our home away from home. We will rent this home whenever we visit Austin. And the host Gary is a gem!

Perfect House, Perfect Host

Gary was the ideal host. He communicated clearly, the house was even nicer than we expected, it was perfectly clean, and it had everything we needed. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. In addition to the 3 very comfortable beds, there was a great air mattress. The living space is huge and very welcoming. The location is also perfect. A short 5 minute Uber/Lift ride to downtown only cost $5-$7. An even shorter drive takes you to some very desireable locations south of the river. There were always cars circulating around so we never had to wait long to get picked up. It also wouldn't be hard to bike downtown. STAY HERE IF YOU GET A CHANCE!
