Looking for a BEACH get-a-way right in the middle of BOTH the ICWW and Atlantic that can fit your entire family so ALL can enjoy our painted beach sunrises and salty evening breezes? "The Social Butterfly" may be just the home away from home you are looking for! The home consists of 1100 sq ft of Indoor & Outdoor Entertainment and Adventures galore! The home's peaceful location, included amenities and beach proximity will make spending your time beach-combing and sun-seeking an Ocean BREEZE!

The space

Pleasure Island (Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, and Fort Fisher) has become a RAPIDLY increasing vacation (and full-time!) destination for the East coast and beyond for many reasons. It’s a family-oriented beach with a touch of everything one might be looking for! It’s an AMAZING place to visit, live, and never leave!

The home is on the North End of Carolina Beach and a short ride or long walk to downtown and everything that it has to offer. In Carolina Beach you’ve got the boardwalk, restaurants, and local shops of all kinds. If you like adventures, the marina is also there where you can take an offshore fishing trip, diving excursion, or party boat out for a sunset sail. Camping more your thing? Bring the 4X4 and drive (and camp) on the beach at Freeman Park, located on the North End of the island. You can also head down to Kure Beach and fish directly off their fishing pier compete with bait, tackles, and more! The Carolina Beach Lake is nearby, hosting a weekly Farmer’s Market every Saturday, FIREWORKS every Thursday, and outdoor summer movies on Sunday’s (on a large inflatable screen in the middle of the lake!). We welcome you to sit back, relax and enjoy yourselves because that's exactly what the beach is for!

This home, much like its "namesake", is a convergence of the original 1980's construction, luxurious MODERN updates AND upgrades throughout, and most of all, is geared towards indoor and outdoor adventures, sunrises, and surprises!

As you pull up to "The Social Butterfly", you are immediately greeted by the home with some salty beach speak! Under the carport sits an outdoor entertainment center to enjoy the game or a movie in ANY weather. A beechwood bar awaits a certified mixologists assistance to help professionally quench their fellow guests thirst. Just beyond your outdoor entertainment area and private deck with built-in seating area lies a block fire-pit for the entire family to enjoy some twilight convos while watching firelight embers get whisked away in our salty breezes.

The entry to this 3 bedroom/2 bath home opens up into a large, newly furnished family room combined with an open dining area and modern kitchen. There is both a breakfast bar and small dining area for your party to snack, sip, and feast! A hallway through the center of the home introduces you to the rest of your sandcastle-away-from home. Bathroom #1 with a standup shower sits to your left as you continue down the hall.

At the end of the hall, all 3 bedrooms respectively await! The Master bedroom (bedroom #1) is complete with a (1) King size bed and ensuite full bath with a standup shower stall. Across the hallway sits bedroom #2 with a (1) Queen size bed, and last but not least, bedroom #3 with Two (2) Full size beds.

Courtesy organic soap and shampoo are left in the bathroom of each suite as well as a (1) starter roll of TP, a (1) garbage bag, dish soap, and a sponge in each kitchen.

There are ONE (1) KING, ONE (1) QUEEN and TWO (2) FULL size beds on site because we want all of our guests to be comfortable when it comes time to recharge. Linens (sheets, bath towels, wash cloths, floor towels, pillowcases, etc.) along with pillows and basic comforters ARE included in your suite rental!

There is one large smart TV in the living room of the home to utilize one's personal subscriptions (such as Netflix or Hulu) along with a WIFI computer connection for when it's time to sit back and enjoy some movies or shows after a long day at the beach! Bring a Fire Stick, Apple TV, Laptop w/ HDMI cable or another such casting device if looking to ensure all the tech comforts from home are available during your stay!

Neighborhood description

Pleasure Island is a coastal barrier island in Southeastern North Carolina, USA just south of the City of Wilmington. Pleasure Island is located within Federal Point Township, in New Hanover County. The coastal resort towns of Carolina Beach and Kure Beach, as well as the annexed communities of Wilmington Beach and Hanby Beach are located on the island.

The home itself is short ride or long walk from Downtown Carolina Beach with its shops, activities and dining. There are fireworks during the summer every Thursday night, Movies at the lake each Sunday night, and local fairs around the lake each Saturday morning. Carolina Beach is a mix of friendly locals, snowbirds, and vacationers all looking to escape the inland and enjoy the sand, surf, and sun.

Carolina Beach and the surrounding neighborhoods offer an array of sights and activities to enjoy while here. Some of these examples are (but not limited to) a subtle beach hike through Carolina Beach State Park, Fishing on the Kure Beach Pier, kayaking to one of the many islands surrounding the Intracoastal Waterway, watching canons blast during a historical reenactment at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site, or petting some Sting Rays at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. This doesn’t even include the awing scenery of Airlie Gardens, and our very own battleship (USS NC) in Wilmington! Perhaps more relaxing and less “adventure” is your speed? Our own local Brewery (Good Hops) along with a round of Frisbee golf may be what the doctor ordered!

Guest access

The HOME: Guests have full access to the private home and respective grounds.

The YARD: Guests have full access to the private yard, patio, multiple decks and outdoor shower. Guests may fully enjoy (and maintain!) the homes outdoor amenities from entertainment area to fire pit.

PARKING: Each reservation will have access to a maximum of four (4) vehicles between the carport and driveway. Any additional community parking spaces would have metered/paid availability on a first come first serve basis.

Our partners include the Tony Silvagni Surf School for professional surf lessons, bicycle, umbrella, and chair rentals, Salty Dog Yoga, Hot Ticket Fishing Charters, Griffin Cleaning and Beachside Express Services. Our partners support guests of Salt Water Real Estate with the highest caliber of local services for extremely competitive and oft discounted pricing.

•Linens (sheets, bath towels, beach towels, wash cloths, floor towels, pillowcases, etc.) along with pillows and a summer comforter ARE included in your suite rental! Prior to departure, please assist our linen team by beginning a load before hitting to road!

•The Town of Carolina Beach offers multiple public parking options to visitors and residents on a FIRST COM-FIRST SERVE basis. Town-operated parking is open year round and paid parking is enforced March 1st - October 31st from 9AM - 8PM. Parking fees restart each morning during enforcement hours for all of the Town's parking lots and on-street parking spaces.

•To the county, golf carts are considered automobiles. Generally speaking, golf carts are NOT allowed on premises of ANY condo, condotel, or apartment. The same goes for trailers, motorcycles, etc. For SFR’s or properties supporting multiple vehicles, carts should be OK. However, be conscious that few homes have external outlets WITHOUT GFCI’S (which are code by today’s standards). Charging a cart on a GFCI will immediately trip the breaker, resulting in the inability to charge a cart amongst other repercussions. Gas carts will generally be the ideal rental option if in a home whose parking supports such.

•ALL suites are non-smoking (including vaping) and a heavy cleaning/repair charge can result if not adhered to. This includes porches, decks, balconies, and walkways.

Black Mold, Bugs, Musty Smell, Water Damage, Dirty
Upon arrival to the property, the first thing we noticed was the black mold on the front door. When we opened the door, we were struck by a VERY strong musty/mildew smell. The air in the home was so damp that the beds and couch were not usable due to them being damp. When we left the property, all of our clothes smelled like mildew. Beds were not made upon our arrival. We ended up sleeping on top of the quilt because there was an infestation of earwig bugs in the beds. The swing was rusty and left sitting on the porch. There was black mold in and around the air vents. After further inspection, there were multiple places on the ceiling and walls where water damage had been painted over before it was properly fixed. There were large bubbles under the paint and they smelled of mold/mildew. Furthermore, we asked the host how to plug in the outside tv and he said he thought it needed an extension cord, but that was "just a guess" and he was unsure how to fix it. We ended up cancelling our stay after 1 night because this house is/was uninhabitable. After expressing our concerns to the host, we did not receive a full refund--they kept almost $1,000 for a 1 night stay + "cleaning fee" for a property that was not clean upon our arrival. The host was snarky when we expressed our concerns about the property and they did not see our concerns as a safety hazard. Interestingly enough, they aren't accepting any new bookings for the property indefinitely. Yikes!

Fit our needs on our budget - enjoyed our stay
Decent place that fit our needs well enough for the price and the fact we waited quite late to book. The place could use more items for the kitchen; pizza cutter and toaster but realize there is limited space. Variety of board games in the LR and a short walk to the beach. Need to fix the squeaky screen door though. We enjoyed our time here.
