HURRICANE Helene aftermath UPDATE:
We are happy to report that our home and property withstood the hurricane! All Utilities are up and running!
Welcome to Newland, elevation 3,650', the highest county seat east of the Rocky Mtns. This centrally-located house is a classic circa 1926 Craftsman recently renovated for modern comfort while maintaining the original feel of 100 years ago. 1-acre yard has about a third of it fenced-in for our house and our guests - simply open the back door and your dogs will be instantly contained! My Guest Book will list everything nearby! An outdoor enthusiast's dream location as this home has adventures N, S, E & W of here!
There are no steps into or inside the home! Walking distance to restaurants. Traveling in the winter? This property is located on a road that is plowed by the state. The driveway is flat and there are no steps to the house or once inside!
The backyard is flat, mowed and 1/3 of an acre of the property, along with the house, is fenced in. Lots of room for kids and dogs to play! No one shares this fenced-in area with you.
Tom & I purchased this property in 2022. It was destined to be bulldozed but we immediately fell in love with the 100-year old home with original hardwood floors, plaster walls and made an offer. All plumbing and electrical had been updated already so it was a matter of repairing the home, adding modern conveniences. All the kitchen appliances as well as the state-of-the art heating and air system were added in 2022 and 2023. Most of the work was completed by us. We have a 1-bedroom cottage next door but it has it's own entrance and it's own private courtyard. The 3rd structure in the back - we don't know what to call it - is our latest renovation. It is a small, 1000 sq' home that will NOT be rented but will be our private refuge when we're not at our condo in Charlotte. We absolutely love it here!
The rooms are spacious with high ceilings. There is an upstairs with 2 bedrooms, a sitting room, and a small, full-bath. There is a door downstairs and we lock this when a guest is staying at the house. It will eventually be available to rent, making the house a 4-bedroom, 2 bath home. Stay tuned to that. We would NEVER rent it separately from the downstairs; our guests would either rent the property as a 2-bedroom, 1 bath or a 3 bedroom, 2 bath for an additional fee.
All the bed linens, blankets, mattress covers, pillow protectors, towels, bath mat are WHITE and all of these items are washed in hot water between our guests' stay!
Enjoy sitting on the patio with a fire in the firepit - in the summer! Yes, temperatures generally range about 15 degrees here than in Charlotte, NC. Most nights require a light jacket/sweater/hoodie.
Located in the town limits of Newland, walkable to restaurants and stores. I have 3 guidebooks for you to to while you are here.
