No air conditioner = terrible stay
It was in the 80s during our stay. When we arrived, we tried to turn on the air conditioner but it did not work. The central air blower didn't even turn on.
We contacted the host, who eventually told us that a technician would come in 2 days to look at it, and had a window unit shipped to the house that evening. While this was a very nice gesture, the reality was that it only cooled one small room in the house and I had to install it myself. This is a very minor recompense for the lack of climate control in the whole house.
This wasn't the only problem -- the house in general wasn't very well-appointed, with barely enough towels, bedsheets, and pillows. The bedrooms were lacking nightstands and lighting, and none of the windows had any curtains (did not help with the heat). What furniture there was seemed shabby and poorly assembled.
There's more -- the kitchen was difficult to work in, there was no dining table, but I think you get the idea. The general discomfort of the stay probably made all these things seem worse than they might actually have been.
On the plus side, the water pressure was nice in the shower, and the host was very accommodating given the circumstances. However, when the technician did not ultimately arrive after the promised 2 days, we left early.
