The goods- beautiful area, nice shade trees, Aiden was a wonderful host. When I arrived beginning of December the weather was perfect, the area quiet, deer were (lots of deer) wandering around the neighbor hood, and it was a great place to relax. Highways to town and surrounding areas are close by and
shopping and dining establishments are with in ten minutes drive. Interstates are close by so a trip to San Antonio is pretty easy (Be aware the Alamo is really crowded). Barbecue is close by north and south (Texas magazine has best rated Austin area BBQ-but try Valentinas which is the closest good one and my favorite).
Washer and dryer in out back shed.
The not so goods-you really only have two choices going north to Austin proper, construction to widen one starts this summer. Be aware, Austin drivers did nothing to negate their reputation for aggressive driving.
The house has no dressers. Be prepared to live out of your suitcase. Only one toilet, bath/shower. There is no TV so bring an ipad or kindle. Internet is around 0.5 MB so streaming content isn't really an option unless you can down load movies and watch later. Forget sports lest you want to go to a sports bar (couldn't watch college bowl games). Kitchen is set up for light breakfast, most of my meals were BBQ I brought home to eat later.
Austin has some awesome restaurants so I assume you won't be eating at home much.
Stairs are steep, mobility issues beware. My 55 yo knees took some time to get used to. Fireworks are legal and during xmas to New Year's, lots of booming, new years eve didn't stop till around 230a and I had to get up to got to airport at 0430.
Dog parks good-onion creek (closest one with water, lots of places to run, Red Bud (go early but our favorite), Walnut creek, and circle C (not an off leash park per se, but in back many early AM dog walkers do so off leash). Manchaca vet was great if you have an issue (https://www.yelp.com/biz/manchaca-village-veterinary-care-austin-2) and need a vet.
Dog not so goods, area yard not fenced, if your dogs roam, not so good. Weather was nice, i could keep doors open so dogs could go in and out but summer might be an issue. My 10 year old lab had issues with stairs, I eventually moved downstairs. My lab had bad anxiety due to fireworks (which aren't allowed every year, depends on rain and fire risk)
I would definitely stay again, but at different time of year.
