Grandpa Dans Cabin+Mtn River view 34 acre retreat
Let your worries melt away at this rustic hand-hewn cabin built from local timber. Nestled on 34 acres of mixed hardwoods overlooking the French Broad River, this private mountain getaway is perfect for those wanting to relax and rejuvenate. Mtn-road-appropriate vehicle a must!
This rustic cabin features a wrap-around deck and an open floor plan with comfortable sleeping for 7 on the second floor. The master bedroom is spacious with a picture window and has a king bed, ample closet space, and Grandpa Dan's Mom's dresser. The second bedroom sleeps three and has a large closet and single dresser. A cozy second floor sleeping nook with full-size bed makes for a comfortable, private-feeling third sleeping area. There is a small television with Roku, and the WIFI is fast so movies can also be streamed on your laptop if you want to cozy up with a movie after a day of outdoor adventures. The outdoor shower is available during the warmer months.
Access to this secluded oasis requires a mountain-appropriate vehicle, (4wd or front wheel drive with mountain driving experience) especially during the colder months. Access roads are partly paved and partly gravel and are beautiful, but winding and steep or rugged in places. Most guests prefer 4 or all wheel drive. Parking for 2-3 vehicles above, and 2 in front, of the main entrance are available. The entire cabin minus the basement is yours during your visit. Please message host prior to booking if you have any question about your vehicle's mountain-readiness or any other access questions!
Friendly local host assistants available as needed.

Über den Gastgeber
Zu Gast bei John Dzubay

My father, "Grandpa Dan", a second-generation immigrant from the Tatra Mountains of Slovakia, was drawn to the mountains of Western North Carolina during the 1980's, and built this cabin oasis from local timber in 1996. As the story goes, the cabin was built with help from family, friends, and one local professional carpenter. Grandpa Dan loved the sunshine and especially enjoyed making colorful stained glass art for the sun to light up. When Grandpa Dan died in 2018, my husband, John, and I were able to keep the cabin and its surrounding acreage with the goal of sharing it with others and preserving its natural beauty for generations to come.
Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
For its quiet natural beauty, wildlife, and peaceful river sounds...
Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
The feeling of being all alone in nature, surrounding by mountains, overlooking a grand river is a rare experience.
