Welcome to Bide-A-Wee Bungalow at 1729 1/2 Bruce Drive on Saint Simons Island, managed by Emmons Realty. This 2-bedroom cottage is a cozy place for up to 6 people, and it’s just a block away from the beach.

When you step inside, you’ll notice some cool modern art on the walls which gives the place a unique feel. The living room has a sleeper sofa for extra guests. There’s also a TV here to catch up on your favorite shows.

In the bedroom, you’ll find a comfy queen bed and another TV. The bathroom has a walk-in shower which is nice and refreshing after a day outside.

The bunk room, along with the new bathroom and sitting area featuring a television, is a recent addition to the home.

The kitchen might be small, but it is mighty - having everything you need to prepare a vacation's worth of meals. There’s a regular coffee maker to brew your morning cup, a small oven with four burners, and a microwave. You can enjoy your meals at the kitchen bar with two seats or at the table with two more seats.

Outside, there’s a charcoal grill ready for some BBQ. And don’t worry about parking; there's space for three cars.

So, if you’re looking for a hip place with some neat art close to the beach, Bide-A-Wee Bungalow is the spot. Plus, with Emmons Realty managing the place, you know you’re in good hands. The home is located just 5 blocks north of the Coast Guard Station.

Free Wifi and Air Conditioned. Driveway is 102 inches wide. No refunds will be given for inability to fit into Driveway.

Every one of our properties is furnished with a “starter kit” of supplies so that you don't have to run to the store at the start of your vacation.

To protect your vacation investment and avoid deposits lost to cancellation, Emmons Realty strongly recommends the purchase of Travel Insurance.

Deposit Policy:
$500 will be charged to your card at the time of reservation, a deposit which will be applied directly to your rental cost. The remainder will be charged automatically, 30 days prior to your arrival. If you’ve contacted us through Homeaway or VRBO, you will be responsible for their additional fees. Our online calendar is updated automatically, and all quotes are accurate and include all fees.

Pet Policy: Properties designated as pet-friendly require a $99 non-refundable pet fee. Only dogs are accepted. Cats are not allowed. Emmons Realty accepts a maximum of 2 dogs, with a maximum weight of 65lbs per dog. Dogs must be at least 1 year old. We cannot allow pit bulls. No exceptions will be made for any part of this policy.

Tight parking; great walking

Great walking access to the beach, only couple of blocks away. Vehicle access to property is best if compact vehicles only. It is true, parking for two, but…if two vehicles, turning around to get back out is somewhat challenging. I submitted a few suggestions to help improve stay for next visitors, but we definitely enjoyed this small two bedroom, two bath property. Nothing fancy, I would visit again for sure!

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: To start out the picture you are showing is NOT the entrance to the home. The location is in a nice neighbor hood. The host was a nice man(loaned us a golf cart when the county dug up the drive way) The furniture was shabby and the plumbing in the older bathroom needs some work.Love the island, hated this place

Great place with one caviat

Loved the ease of everything about this property. It’s very well taken care of and the rental company is super easy to work with. We will be back but will probably stay somewhere on the beach next time… or rent a golf cart to get around, as it does seem a bit far in the heat for bikes to get to pier, shopping, beach, etc.

Cozy Hideaway Cottage

Enjoyed staying in this cozy cottage. Very comfortable with nice bed linens, comfortable seating in living area and good hvac control. Kitchen had all we needed. Very quiet and near family. Walking the East Beach neighborhood is always a pleasure (except August!).

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Perfect retreat!

Being a teacher is stressful! I left the day school was dismissed for teachers. I stayed 12 nights. This was the perfect tranquil location for me to reclaim my motivation and recharge. The cottage afforded me all the necessary amenities. The beach was a short 5 minute walk. I’d definitely stay there again.

There was sand in the bed when I arrived. But, it is the beach. So, I brushed it off and slept just fine. Overall the house was just fine. Just the right size for me and my dog.

Great location in East Beach

Small basic bungalow in great location, close to public beach access and wonderful neighborhood for walking. Otherwise the property itself is well used: chipped plates, bleached stained towels, lumpy sofa. Window AC that had a musty smell when turned on. But everything was very clean and everything worked; I can deal with the rest as this obviously is a great price for a 1-2 person rental on this end of St. Simons.

Cottage Near Beach

We enjoyed a 3 week stay near East Beach with our dog. Positives were the cottage is located in a nice, walkable neighborhood and a few blocks from the beach. As described on the site this is a clean, older, one bedroom cottage, comfortable and suitable for 2 people and our dog. Negatives were there is no yard (besides the driveway), no beach chairs, yard was not raked, small charcoal grill which wasn't clean, no lids for the pots. Owner was responsive when we had a problem with a drain and quickly fixed the issue.

Don’t let the pictures fool you!!

The cottage is very old and run down. It’s located down a small alley that a small car can hardly go down. Limbs sticking out that will scratch your vehicle. JUNKYARD out the living room and kitchen windows. Furniture is old and floors are very old and uneven. Bathroom Floor is nasty and broken. Shower grout and tile is molded and gross!! Water hardly comes out of the shower nozzle! Appears nice and quaint in the pictures but it’s anything but that!! You’re literally in the back yard of another house with no privacy!! And it’s not six houses from the beach. It takes a lot for me to complain but this cottage needs LOTS of work!! My advice is to spend alittle more and get something nice!!!

Pros & Cons

There are many appealing aspects to this cottage--10 minute walk to dog-friendly beach, attractive and safe neighborhood, shaded off-street parking & comfy furniture. Biggest downside for us was total lack of ventilation. Every window is painted shut and there wasn't a screen to be seen. 2 noisy air conditioners put on "fan only" were the only option for fresh air but we had to shut them off to sleep. Mostly peaceful area until weekend when we had to ask rowdy renters in next door pool to stop yelling at 1:30am.

Affordable and close to the beach!

We had a great time at this cottage. It is a five minute walk to the beach, which we appreciated. The cottage was as described, other than the bed is advertised as a queen but is definitely only a double/full. It was fine for us, though. The house itself was generally very clean. The dishes/cooking stuff had been only questionably washed (food residue mostly), and there were bugs (mostly flying ants) in the house, but only what you would expect in an older house on the coast. They didn't bother us but some people may be disturbed. We appreciated having a grill to use. Bikes were available, but at the time, only one was a regular adult bicycle. The other adult bikes were a tricycle style, which we did not use. There were also beach chairs available, which was great. The driveway is tight, but the owner makes you aware of that ahead of time and it was very easy with my little car. There is a plant near the entrance that will definitely touch your car (could be cut back possibly?), just something to be aware of it you are the type of person who that may bother. We would definitely stay here again!

Ben was very accommodating up until our arrival. The house would have been a better review but when we got there it was very dirty. There was food stuck to the stove and stains on the bedsheets. There was mud or dirt all over the bathroom floor and the wood floor throughout the house looked like it hadn't been swept in a long time. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the last guest stayed there. I cleaned it the night we arrived. I texted (preferred contact method) and emailed Ben that night and asked for a refund so we could find somewhere else to stay. I didn't hear back until the day before we left so we stayed at the house not knowing if we would receive a refund or not. Fortunately, the weather was great when we stayed in Georgia, so we spent most of our time outside.

Lacks accessibility, loud and junky

No mention of limited access until I received the check in instructions the day before arrival. We drove 8 hours. Upon arrival saw the super narrow entry- full size trucks and SUVs should not attempt. Construction in front of home and around- very noisy. Carport filled with junk. Openings under home. Construction equipment in parking area. Outside shots are limited in listing- this is probably why. Owner Ben was nice and tried to offer some solutions- park down the street, etc. These were unacceptable for the duration of our stay. We turned around and drove 8 hours back home. Very disappointed. Trying to get some $$ refunded due to missing information in listing.

Good for what we needed

This small bungalow was fine for my daughter and myself for just under a week. It is an extremely quiet area and is conveniently located to East Beach and a short drive to The Village which is our favorite area of SSI. The bed and bath were clean and the bed was comfy. The draw backs for us were: the very unclean frig, coffee pot and microwave. The driveway was scary to navigate in a mid size SUV so I would definitely caution anyone with a larger vehicle. There isn't central air in the home but rather two window units (I didn't pay attention to when considering the home ~ my bad). The units kept the home very comfortable (98 degrees outside during our stay) with the addition of the ceiling fan but did prove noisy for this light sleeper ~ earplugs did the trick! The bathroom was tiny for two ladies and we learned the hard way not to flush or run hot water elsewhere while the other was showering...not really a big issue, just a learning curve. All in all, this is a quaint, conveniently located home that would be great for two travelers to consider when choosing to visit SSI. The owner is easy to work with and answers questions/emails promptly.

Short trip:)

Everything on line describes the super small house. The drain in the bathroom does back up when you shower. There is a large crack in the bathroom floor by the toilet. The furniture in the living room looks bad and worn out. The TV in the living room also did not work so we could only watch tv from the bedroom. The air conditioners were old with a very musty smell and were unclean. My husband cleaned the air vents. What is not described is all the junk around the house. Both in the carport with the run down golf cart with junk all over it and the junk that you looked at from the living room window. Truly looked like you were in the middle of a junk yard with the unkept landscape. The access to the property is between a fence and a concrete pole and 9 feet clearance is generous. Additionally to walk to the beach beyond the public access you had to walk through a marsh. Just be prepared. The lack of outdoor space and access to a hose in front of the house was a problem for us. There is one if you want to go through the junk in the carport but I was not comfortable with that.
